Build

2950x Workstation

by Araket

Description

So I needed to finally upgrade since my last build was approaching 10 years old and was beginning to struggle with current games and I really wanted to put something together that would last roughly the same amount of time. I went a little overboard for my every day use but I have every intention of finally getting in modeling and actually recording gameplay to make videos. Figured this would be a nice transition to a do it all machine and it will have the horsepower to last me for many years to come.

I am thinking about adding another 2080 Ti at some point but am still undecided.

I was able to get the 2950x @ 4.0ghz all cores stable with max temps after running prime95 for an hour at 68c. Haven't really messed with overclocking the GPU yet but I saw there was a bios update from EVGA that increases the power target to 130%

I will put some more pictures up when I get back home!

Maybe instead of buying another 2080ti save the money and get a newer gpu a few years later. Don't know what other than a 8k 60hz or 4k 144hz display would need 2 of them for gaming at least.

Oh for sure, I am very unlikely to buy a second one but it is an idea swirling around up there. =p

Hi sir, can you please tell me is there any leaking issue with the Enermax liqtech Tr4 II 360 cooler?, since i have been hearing this all round on the internet. Thank you

Hey there, I've only had it for about a month now and the only issue I had with it so far is that one of the included fans blades were off balance causing it to make A LOT of noise. So I replaced them with ML120 Pro's

Hi There,

Quick question - I am working on a very similar config, and I was wondering if you had much trouble getting the 2950x to boot with your Asrock X399 Fatal1ty board?

Did you flash the BIOS twice prior to adding the CPU? How did you get it to post?

Thanks!

Heya, sorry for the late response. Yes I did have to flash the bios twice to get it to boot, I actually left the CPU installed though and flashed via USB. That board has a specific USB slot you plug your thumb drive into for it. Then you just hold in the BIOS flashback button for a few seconds

Any thoughts on the ASRock Fatal1ty x399?

I'm looking at building a gaming/streaming machine for twitch and looking at nearly this exact build a 2950x with a 2080 TI XC Ultra. Would you recommend this for a gaming/streaming machine for twitch? How well does your setup game? What kind of frames are you running at and at what resolution?

I mean, I have nothing against Intel personally haha but I mean this thing is only like 10% slower than the 7980xe at just under half the cost. >_>

jeysoncc 1 point 3 months ago

Exactly. Intel prices are exorbitant :/

Yeah, as much I spent on this, that was out of my range. Though the primary use of the machine is streaming/gaming and the wx just doesn't game that well, even with game mode.
