Description

Using it for video editing 4K RAW footage, often in multicam.

Lots of the parts were carried over from previous builds, especially the older SSDs.

The ram is odd, I admit, that was 2014-era ram for x99.

a crapload of the parts is like 5 years older or so.

AX1200i from 2014 for replacing a 750w corsair that wasn't enough for SLI Kepler Titans paired with OCed 3930ks.

samsung 830 ssd from 2012 that used to be part of a i7 3770k build mini itx.

and, an odd sense of ssd whoring, mainly for my need for fast space for videoediting scratch disks.

what story do u want, this build is not planned, merely one that evolved over the years.

went from phenom 720 triple core, to 1090t, to 3930k to 5960x, to 1950x.

(the 3770k build was a temporary 2nd rig i had, for some reason.)

gpu wise, went from gtx 260 to gtx 470 to gtx 580 to sli Kepler titans, to Xfire 290Xes, to 980 Ti, and finally Titan X Pascal. I didn't learn my lesson from the Kepler titans apparently.

Wow... what are you doing with all those SSDs?

they get filled up by massive Steam games and 4K raw videos. pretty much.

Oh, man... and to think the amount of money you could make if you were to sell them all...

i've gotten the SM961 1TB for $381, lots of the SSDs were sniped off from ebay, with Crucial M500 1TB going for $170.

Used or brand new, and if used for how long have they been used and if still reliable?

more likely used, btw that SM961 1TB is 50TB written on it when i got it in my hands.

It's 3D MLC though, so 50TB is nothing.

A 1.2TB intel 750 ssd... Who are you, Tony Stark?

jk, it's a great build for editing! That 1950X though, glorious!

Maybe I am Tony Stark, maybe I am not. wink wink

Wut 0-o? Are you hosting CIA's server?

and perhaps the NSA as well. There's definitely some classified info in my SSDs.

cringe Green Pcb on that RAM

Still, almost 6000x the price of my build.

Bit weird spending that much in a pc and using a pretty anticlimactical keyboard

Got half the alphabet in drives though. Are they in raid?

  • 1 point

none of them is in RAID. seriously.

also, that was cheap Crucial ram that worked fine on x99 before i swapped to x399. Ram was cheap back then.

Fair enough. Power over aesthetics

Would a Dark Base Pro 900 fit all your drives? Or would that not be enough?

I understand your pain with ProRes, R3D and Cinema DNG files. I find 1TB Seagate Enterprise V5 HDDs are fast enough for ProRes at 4K 30p.

Eh, the 760t was the smallest "full tower" i could go for that still provides a lot of space inside the case. Mid-tower became too cramped for me.

i would get i9 7900x instead of 1950x Anyway your Build is GREAT!

there's more total compute power in a 1950x overall than a i9 7900x for the same price, and the 64 lanes on CPU is also a bonus as well compared to only 44 lanes on CPU.

No, the other 24 chipset lanes of x299 doesn't count as that has to go through a x4 link.
