Description

Overview

Rome wasn't built in a day, and this PC wasn't either. This was a stressful build because it was the first time I did anything like it and I did it all by myself. So as the title states, I wanted to play Overwatch on PC rather than console because of the larger competition. So I had a budget of about 500 dollars that sadly got heavily extended towards the end of this so because i made a lot of changes

I guess the main reason it got so big is after i learned more about PC parts and I went back and worth between graphics cards constantly. I thought i wanted a Nvidia 1050ti but them i was told that it was out of style so I switched to AMD 470, but then someone said the 480 was better. Finally my friend told me to get the 1060 cause it was better so I just stuck with that.

Another thing that i think is really good to mention is that. This does not include a monitor because I haven't purchased one yet, but it's on the way. Also the reason the price went up so much was probably because of some of the extra add ons i have like extension cables and so on. The PC by itself is about $850 but could be even cheaper.

Overall I had a really fun experience amongst the stress, and I would do it again for a friend or loved one. It runs really well and looks amazing. If you have any questions about this build don't be afraid to ask, and if you like the build don't forget to like it and tell me in the comment section.

Part Reviews

CPU Cooler

Nice inexpensive fan. I bought it mostly because it doesn't protrude off the MOBO like most coolers and it just fits with the cooler scheme. It's pretty silent to contrary to popular belief.

Motherboard

Cheap MOBO that get's the job done and was recommended to me but no overclocking.

Video Card

So this was the last part I got and definitely the most expensive. Even though its probably one the most expensive 1060 on the market, i think it lives up to it's performance. Right now I don't have a monitor so i'm using my TV as a screen. My TV is a Samsung 4k UHD. When i first started playing Overwatch, I didn't realize it but my setting were preset to 4k Resolution. Surprisingly enough I was still getting a consistent 60fps on Ultra settings which is crazy. Now if your looking for a 4k gaming card I wouldn't recommend this one but i'm just saying it has the capacity to preform at that level.

EDIT: So I didn't realize my Overwatch settings had an FPS cap on them. After removing the FPS cap, my frames went WAY up. In 1080p I can reach up to 170-180 FPS. In 1440p about 130 and in 4k between 90-100. ALL settings at Ultra, which is crazy! Well this is most likely because it's Overwatch, but this is a great card!

On top of it's performance, it's build and aesthetics really grew on me. Even with 3 fans the GPU stays pretty quite while gaming. It also keeps a low temperature between 50-60 C. The RGB lights are my favorite part because they just bring so much to the design of the build and they have alot of different settings to go with them. I especially like the music mode where the lights flash to the beat.

Case

Absolutely beautiful case!!! I honestly couldn't ask for more. It's a sleek white with a side panel so I can see my components, and an amazing RGB set up. So hidden gems with this case are the cable set up in the back. More specifically how the fan connectors have extra slots for more fans you might buy. These fans can all be hooked up together and contorlled by one button on the front of the case. Also the bottom of the case has plenty of open space for any power cords you want to hide away.

Power Supply

Nice power supply, gets the job done but no module.

Case Fan

Nice white LED fans that add a certain flair to any build.

Keyboard

This is a really nice keyboard for the price. I think its a great combo deal getting both a mouse and Keyboard. The keyboard keys are similar to mechanical keys with Cooler Masters special design. Also the mouse has great tracking.

Custom

I recommend buying these for any Phantex case. The only thing that sucks is the magnets barley stick on the roof so you need extra adhesive.

holy crap! if you're high Masters Tracer on console, I am sure you'll do very well on PC too

The build is amazing! Perfect for AAA titles. Though, if you bought this computer MAINLY for Overwatch, I would had reccomend i3 and save up nearly $100. Though, this computer will be able to play games such as GTA V high settings +60 FPS. So a good build! :)

I guess you could say i'm kind of a snob for intel processors so I always want to get an i5 or i7. As for games I'm still really new to PC gaming. I don't really know a lot of other good games for PC, but i have been researching them. I'm hoping to play Nier Automata next when i can afford it.

I can't afford the 1060 so I am stuck the 470 amd 1050Ti. Which would you prefer?

It's funny cause when i first started planing this build I was considering getting the 1050Ti till somebody told me other wise. From the research I've done, I'd say definitely go with the RX 470. A lot of people will say "better dead than Red" (referring to AMD) but the 1050Ti is really on it's way out the door when it comes to GPU's and the 470's just an overall better pick.

Now another thing to think about is AMD is releasing the RX 570 and Rx 580 like in the next two weeks which will be a small upgrade from the 470 and 480. If that's in you price range go with that.

However I bought a very expensive 1060. You can usually find a cheaper 1060 3G for close to the same price as a 470 or 1050Ti. Here's a pretty good thread on that (https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/65p8j8/gtx_1050_ti_4gb_or_gtx_1060_3gb_same_price/)

Also I would say go to the Reddit Forms for PC builds (https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/) and ask them. They're usually really helpful for these questions

Great build. For that price point on a CPU cooler, you could've gotten a better solution which performs relatively more quiet and a bit better, performance wise. Overall though, nice!

Yea I have to agree with BaRoMeTric, I really like the white fan because it fits well with everything else. Also at first i was going to use the stock fan that came with the CPU, but the reddit forms suggested this cooler.

Agreed, the Cryorig H7 would've been a great silent choice as well. But overall, I think the C7 still looks great.

Nice build man. I'm honestly pretty stoked you did not go overboard for overwatch. It's not demanding st all and I see way too many people wasting too much money to play just that. Props to you!

Great build by the way it's nice. By the was how do you like the cooler master keyboard that you have. I saw it on amazon, saw the price and the features and I really want to try it. I just wanted to see how you liked it. Is it worth it not. Also if you play overwatch who's your favorite character XD. Thanks!!

Well obviously my favorite Character is Tracer. She's my main and profile pic, but other than her i really like playing snipers. I play a lot of Widow and Ana. In fact my next golden gun is for Ana. I got one for Tracer, Rien, and Widow. As for the Cooler Master Keyboard. I like it right now. The keys sound and feel nice and the RGB is beautiful and so customizable it's crazy. As for the mouse it's pretty standard and it works well for the price but i'll probably replace it before the end of the year. I personally don't like it's preset DPI settings, but to each their own. If you need a good mouse and keyboard that's not only cheap but also looks nice. THIS IS YOUR PACKAGE!

How are your temps with the c7?

I dont really know how to check CPU specifically but while playing overwatch at 4k I'm between 55-60 C. However i don't know if thats the GPU or CPU. If you know how to check let me know and I'll have a more concrete answer.

Is the build primarily for Overwatch, as in do you play Overwatch much more than other games?

  • 1 point

Yes, I'm a complete noob when it comes to PC gaming in general, so my first priority for this computer was to play Overwatch. However I have a good friend who said PC gaming had so much more to offer so he's been recommending me good games. I'm going to try Nier Automata next, in between Overwatch sessions.

Why did you buy the most expensive 1060?

  • 1 point

So when it comes to to the 1060 here's my gripe. At first, I was going to get a RX 480 until I found out that AMD drives dont work as well as Nvidia on Overwatch. Then i wanted to get a 1070 but the price jump between a 1060 and 1070 is way to big. Nvidia could've done everyone a favor and made the 1070, $300 rather than $400. So i decided to get the best 1060 i could find. I liked it's specs and i also really liked it's 3 fan cooler design, but most of all the RGB lights sold it for me.

You do know there's almost no performance difference. None if you OC it yourself.

Well if nothing else I really like it's design, but i did see it out preformed most 1060's

This is the first time that I see a first time builder doesn't have a cheap *** ugly PC. Very nice! I am glad that you don't have to go through what I have to go through. I regret getting a fast PC with ketchup mustard everywhere. It is loud and ugly af as well.

Hehe, sorry, that wasn't actually me there. I was having friends over and I think it was one of them who typed out the message. Why he was visiting this site? we were having a comp to see who could build the best pc with monitor under 1.2k by June, so he must have been looking through my builds and probs came to this build to shoot his mouth off as it wasn't his own account. Jerkbag. Sorry for any inconvenience caused

So i actually ended up flipping it over so the fan faces the ground because if not some of my power cords wouldn't reach without an extension.
