Description

Custom built CAD, editing, streaming and gaming workhorse.

This crazy project all started with a very specific case I found for sale locally. One of the very limited Murdermod Silverstone TJ-07s originally sold by Charles Harwood, creator of the XForma Brand. I decided that this very limited case was deserving of a very high end build and things started to snowball from there.

This build was a long term project so some of the individual part choices might not seem that logical out of context. I found many deals along the way to try my best to keep costs down. In the end it was still really expensive but it was a less bitter pill to swallow since it was paid for over a longer time span. I would have bought SLI 980Ti cards had they been available at the time. I have always built systems to the best price to performance and this time I had some income to spare and decided to go a bit crazy.

I did all the cable sleeving myself with MDPC sleeve and spent a lot of time making the build look as clean as possible. I would like to add the GPUs to the loop in the future but its hard to justify the cost since these cards barely handle 4k. Future plans would be to replace them with watercooled 980Tis or the next gen Pascal cards.

Pictures show the system with internal mechanical drives and 4 memory slots filled. I have since moved the mechanical drives to a USB3.0 enclosure and added 16 more GB of ram to fill all the slots.

Future plans would be to add the GPUs (probably not the 980s) the loop and switch to a hard piping. Oh, and flipping the inverted logos on the board and GPUs.

  • Yes I do know I can edit comments. The problem is, I did not notice it until five hours later. I can only edit within one hour. That is if I caught the mistake by then.

I came when I saw picture 10 :)

vincemark 2 Builds 4 points 24 months ago

what chair is that? i see it everywhere.

Whilhelm submitter 1 Build 2 points 24 months ago

It is a Herman Miller Embody

manirelli staff 8 Builds 5 points 24 months ago

Love the chair. My only wish is that there was some sort of headrest. It is so comfortable I want to nap in it :/

Happyville101 1 point 24 months ago

mani? you have that chair?

manirelli staff 8 Builds 2 points 24 months ago

yup

Spycrab 1 point 24 months ago

Was it a good investment?

Retroman 1 point 24 months ago

I was going to buy it but I actually found the Herman Miller Aeron fully loaded a lot more comfortable for my body but couldn't be happier. A good chair is totally worth the investment. It's for your health and doesn't hurt that they achieve an amazing aesthetic appeal either ;)

vincemark 2 Builds 2 points 24 months ago

nice, quick reply.

but then i saw the Amazon price tag........ :O do you think the price justify it?

Whilhelm submitter 1 Build 3 points 24 months ago

I don't know about the full retail price but I got mine for half price used. At the price I paid it was worth every penny. It is pure engineering **** and it is the most supportive chair I have ever sat in.

190n 2 Builds 1 point 24 months ago

That awkward moment when his chair is more expensive than 2 of your computer...

william.cummins 3 points 24 months ago

bruh get a decent ROG SLI bridge plz. Kidding. +1

JafferAli 1 Build 3 points 24 months ago

I'd kill for that monitor setup

piemancoder 3 points 24 months ago

I think the case is called a Murderbox because it sacrifices your wallet! :P JK :)

Anywaus, this is an amazing buils, definitely worth a Featured spot. Good job, and I hope you love your PC. (because I sure do!)

Stuart_Munto 3 Builds 2 points 24 months ago

Wow....! I am speechless! This is a masterpiece

floridaboz 4 Builds 2 points 24 months ago

I really like this. One of the reasons is because right now i cant afford it, but also how you have the desk set up, that case is just something else and some 980s thrown in for good measure . Other stuff to, but i dont feel much like writing a novel, but very well done.

ThugginMcMuffin 3 Builds 2 points 24 months ago

wow this thing is wicked cool! never even knew that these special version cases were made.

Cuppie_Cakes 1 Build 2 points 24 months ago

Really nice looking build. I like the way the MB is turned, very unique, but the 3-way bridge confuses me. :D

ZeParagoon 2 points 24 months ago

This looks like a PC I would only see DigitalStorm do. GG Whilhelm.

Speechless...

Mandalor 1 Build 2 points 24 months ago

What audio set up do you have? I noticed a mic and stand etc.. didnt see any headphones though. What do you use it for?

Whilhelm submitter 1 Build 2 points 24 months ago

I have a 5.1 home theater setup for movies and offline gaming. When I am using the mic I have Beyerdynamic One pros, V-Moda M-100s and Sennheiser PC 350s. I kinda flip between them because I like them all for different reasons.

Mandalor 1 Build 1 point 24 months ago

What mic is that? Would you buy it again?

Whilhelm submitter 1 Build 1 point 24 months ago

Audio Technica AT-2020 USB. I find it to be really nice quality and I didnt want to mess around with an XLR mic for what I am using it for.

DS4130 3 Builds 2 points 24 months ago

Serious equipment! The CPU price is unbelievably low!? +1

Whilhelm submitter 1 Build 1 point 24 months ago

Got it through an Intel retailer promo. Anyone that sells computer parts can sign up with Intel for the twice yearly deals that they offer. You just have to do a bunch of product training.

DS4130 3 Builds 2 points 24 months ago

Ah nice, well trained and a bargain CPU! Is that the NVMe 951 by the way?

Whilhelm submitter 1 Build 1 point 24 months ago

Nah its just the AHCI one, the NVMe ones were unicorns when I bought it. I will probably switch to a 512 or 1tb 950pro at some point, but in the meantime this one is still insanely fast.

Dylan7007 1 point 24 months ago

Intel retailer promo? You get cpus for a third the price for that? Where do I sign up? If I can't maybe you can hook me up with one I'm a fellow Canadian.

stax 3 Builds 2 points 24 months ago

+1 for photos 10-11, showing the immersive world and its reality. Awesome build.

Thecautiousone 10 Builds 2 points 24 months ago

This is Good. This is Very Good. What is your Main Middle Monitor? The PB's are on the left and Right Correct?

Compliments.

Whilhelm submitter 1 Build 1 point 24 months ago

Samsung 40" UN40HU7000 3840X2160. I horribly mis-listed the model number in my build. I had an LG 4k 40" that did not do 4:4:4 chroma and this one does. I bought it open box from best buy and it is actually pretty darn impressive. Sure its input lag is higher than a proper gaming monitor but it I can totally live with it until higher quality 4k 40" panels show up.

ewhite0603 1 Build 2 points 24 months ago

Pure sex bud.

rylectro 2 points 24 months ago

Very nice and thanks for sharing. Time to invest some money in a bigger desk :)

Whilhelm submitter 1 Build 1 point 24 months ago

Thanks, haha I just built that desk, the monitors are just too darn big. If I put the PC on the floor I could center all the screens on the desk but that's not gonna happen ;)

It actually works really well because I can put my drink or food on the side dresser and not worry about ruining my nice ikea butcher block desk surface.

biggles5107 2 Builds 2 points 24 months ago

Ooh, I love those XIJLS cards.

Seriously though, nice build. Personally not a fan of inverted motherboards but hey, you gotta show off those SNSV logos. +1

Whilhelm submitter 1 Build 1 point 24 months ago

What better way to show of my one of a kind SM 3-66X SASV motherboard haha.

Seriously though it bugs the heck out of me, I do plan on flipping the motherboard logos since they are glued on metal strips but I am just working up the courage to mess with that crazy motherboard.

As for the graphics cards, upside down logos are the best way for me to justify putting waterblocks on the cards

shmattymcfatty 2 Builds 2 points 24 months ago

Awesome build! that's one fancy case you got there.

Whilhelm submitter 1 Build 2 points 24 months ago

Thanks, I was amazed when I found it for sale locally, the guy I bought it from never put a system in it. He said he didn't have hardware that was worthy of it.

Mariomash 1 Build 2 points 24 months ago

-SPITS- H-H-HOW! that 5930k came CHEAP man! holy crap only $195! Teach me how to strike deals like that man!

But dang its a beauty, and if you ever plan on getting another SLI setup, go Titan X, only cause it scales better in SLI (12 gigs of vram bro)

+1 you earned it man

PumpSome 2 points 24 months ago

The Murderbox. The only case where you need to go to the bank and withdraw. The Murderbox is the most beautiful case created. So elegant and perfect. You must be proud. A true enthusiast.

TGK_Gaming 2 points 24 months ago

Beautiful. +1

EdInk 11 Builds 2 points 24 months ago

Really like the fact that the heat rising is sucked out. Very interesting layout.

blackout1231 1 Build 2 points 24 months ago

Why are your components upside down? Mindfucking me right now lol

jeffreymays44 4 Builds 2 points 24 months ago

congrats, great build! +1

ElectrifiedAssassin 2 points 24 months ago

Nice, 8Vram... Overall this is a good build, but you should go for the Titan if you have that type of money.

Whilhelm submitter 1 Build 1 point 24 months ago

Thanks. When I got the 980s the Titan X wasn't out yet. I considered them briefly when they were released but in Canadian dollars they cost twice as much and I would need 2 of them to be a worthwhile upgrade over the 980 SLI setup. The 980Ti SLI would be much more realistic but again at this point it's simply too much money to justify the increase in performance.

drekavac6 2 points 24 months ago

All hands to battle stations!!!

Jahusaphet 1 Build 2 points 24 months ago

Wow, this is so beautiful. I'm very jealous of the case too! Awesome job.

kumaizard 1 Build 2 points 24 months ago

WOW!! The photos made me drool! What a great build, really love the precise cable management and piping. Cheers to your evolving machine :)

thekasafist 1 Build 2 points 24 months ago

Kool +1!

Atron 1 Build 1 point 24 months ago

Awesome build, my only minor critisicm is that I find it annoying having wildly different sized monitors but I suppose its personal preferance.

Whilhelm submitter 1 Build 2 points 24 months ago

Thanks. In practice they work amazingly well because the PPI between the 40" and the two 27"s it's nearly identical. So the task bar and all the Windows line up perfectly.

Atron 1 Build 2 points 24 months ago

Oh nice, I didnt pay the resolution on the side monitors any attention. I guess that lets you have all the monitors running at max resolution all the time. Question is did you know that was going to happen or was it pure luck?

Whilhelm submitter 1 Build 1 point 24 months ago

Well, I purchased one Asus PB278 before I got the 4k TV. I had an old crap 37" tv wall mounted above it for movies and stuff and wanted to upgrade. After a little bit of research I discovered that the PPI of a 40" 4k is just over 1 PPI different than a 27" 1440p display so I started looking for one to replace my old TV. After a while I ended up picking up a 2nd used PB278 to balance out the setup. It's pretty overkill but it's nice having so many pixels to play with when I am doing a bunch of different work at the same time.

lawszepie 4 Builds 1 point 24 months ago

I can fap to this

bigg_critter 1 Build 1 point 24 months ago

WOW

Bahamut5098 1 Build 1 point 24 months ago

$1200 for two video cards!?

SmartWolf 1 point 24 months ago

Very nice build. I appreciate the choices, attention to detail, plumbing, wire management (and photos) of this build. Deserving of showcase status.

I agree with Kotaku, "Horrible name, beautiful computer." Very nice case albeit ridiculously priced for the 99%.
