This is my current build which replaced my 7 year old Q9550 P45Q-Pro. The build cost doesn't include the kit I had in my previous PC (HDD, SSD and GPU). This runs great and the modern chipset has allowed me to use my GPU to it's full potential. I plan to replace the GPU with a nvidia Pascal architecture in 2016.

I should have gone with the Corsair LPX or the Ripjaws V RAM. The second CPU cooler fan connector is a ******* to plug into the mobo while it's in the case. Other than those points this was a enjoyable build experience.

+1 for a D15. Love seeing bit air cooling. MUCH better price/performance/noise vs. an AIO cooler.

GREAT BUILD Can you tell me what the clearance is like between the NH-D15 and the GTX570? Or post a pic?

Are those noctua fans loud in that case and what rpm do you run them at?

those fans run at 3000 rpms and lets not forget they are industrial fans so you will hear them. I have the original NF-F12 which run at half the rpms (1500) and at full speed you will hear a nice humming.

Gonna be as good or better as an AIO cooler with the fans on the cooler @ 3000 RPM

They run at a maximum of 3000rpm, they aren't compatible with the low voltage adapter so be warned. I've used them as the front intake fans moving the front case fan to the bottom of the case. I've actually got two 140mm fans and corrected this now. They are PWM and I run them at 1200rpm until the heat picks up on the CPU, then the fan curve starts to ramp them up. I'll be interesting to see what happens in the Queensland summer. I've put them on full speed and with the case open they are loud, the sound dampening of the case is very effective but what is really dramatic is the air they pull at that speed absolutely incredible. I got the industrial one on a whim and couldn't recommend them over the current premium Nocuta 140mm fans which would run quieter as they would run at a lower rpm.

Flashed the BIOS and those industrial fans are running at 500 RPM@40 oC and 800RPM @ 60 oC, so it's now super quiet

Are the fans compatible with the onboard fan controller? I'm planning on doing a similar build but with 3 of them.

Yes they are compatible with the motherboard fan controller but the industrial fans are not comparable with the low voltage adaptor that allows for lower speed. I'm happy with them but I think I would also have been happy with the other 140mm Noctua fan (can't remember their spec ATM).

yeah, thats what i was thinking, so they still sound like a jet engine even in the r5?

At full speed it loud, not hair-drier but it's annoying. All I've really done by buying the industrial 3000RPM is give myself the ability/headroom to ramp up the airflow at a much higher rate. This is at the expense of having my lowest RPM setting start at a higher (1200) RPM.

At the same revolution speed the two Nocuta fan types produce comparable sound. I reckon the R5 halves the noise.

Increase airflow by Removing the upper HDD cage if you're not utilizing it.

If I take them out I probably won't see them intact again plus those fans blow better than a .... ...they can move a lot of air into a pressurised environment.

Nice upgrade, and nice waiting for the new GPUs. May I ask how does the 570 perform? I'm looking for a used inexpensive card to add to an old system...

Subjectively that GPU has been great but I don't have a newer card to compare it to, I'm playing Ryse Son of Rome on medium setting and it's very nice. I'll provide a benchmark if you want, what tool/game do you want to suggest?

Eh, I don't really know, I'm stuck with a gts 450 from some time now so I don't even own some of the newer games. What I'd like to run is The Witcher 3, even on medium settings :)

Just hearing rumors about Pascal GPU lineup. If the rumors are true they will be worth the wait for sure.

Hi, Im thinking of using similar components (case & cpu cooler) Just a comment: would you need one of those black/industrial noctuas on the floor running at the same rpm as the front intakes to maintain positive static pressure? I assume you picked them for the higher airflow in a warm country.

Thinking of getting an R5, having trouble with intakes and if its worth replacing the stock white ones with Noctuas all round. I dont think I need industrial fans lol, but its nice to know those ones can be lowered to the same level as the cpu pwm fans, which I've heard are nice and muted on the D15.

Also did you use the R5s built in fan speed selector for anything or is it all motherboard header controlled with profiles?

The intakes at the front of the R5 are very good in that they allow plenty of airflow. As you probably know the R5 comes with two 140mm fans I would say as soon as you add one more intake fan at the front - and that could be another fractal design one - you will get positive pressure. That would be the sensible recommendation. What I get with those Nocuta fan is a little bit of bragging rights, and the ability to increase the intake of air. My system is probably not as balanced as it should be in terms of airflow. Ideally I should have fans pushing air out at slightly less volume than air coming in. What I have probably means my intake fans have diminishing returns as they ramp up.

There are two fan connector 4 pin (PWM) which can be controlled through the motherboard and software - fan curve -. That's what the Nocuta fan I have are. 3 pin are what the FD fans in the case are and they are controlled by the selector switch Difference explained here http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/266476-29-difference-3pin-4pin-connectors
