Description

Theme is black with RGB, thus the need to plasti dip the red parts on the 1080 Ti.

Built this to play VR and waiting for a proper 4K monitor to release (hopefully soon). Also because my old rig, a 770 one, was sort of acting up and the motherboard had already been sent for rma once.

The prices will look sort of weird because I bought and built this system in Singapore and then just used Google to convert the prices.

*** Credits to myk_o (https://pcpartpicker.com/b/GYTBD3) for guiding me on how to plasti dip the graphics card & Joker-LE (https://pcpartpicker.com/b/JdXPxr) for the idea of routing the AIO tubes behind the 24 pin atx cables

Update 19 May 2017: Decided to just go for the Asus ROG Swift PG279Q monitor. Although I had initially planned to wait for a 4K 144hz HDR G-Sync monitor, it seems that a single 1080 Ti might not be enough to fully utilize it well. The price might be 2-3 times of the monitor I just bought as well. I could be wrong, but at least I have something to use for now :) Will upload pictures of the whole setup once I am done with packing my room heh

Part Reviews

CPU

Coming from an i5-4570, I was deciding whether to get an i5 every 2-3 years or simply an i7 and hopefully use it for 4-5 years. Eventually went for this since I'll get the increased performance straight away (not sure if it helps, but I do dual screen and stream from time to time) and also partially because I wanted to try an i7 out.

CPU Cooler

Fits just nicely in the S340 Elite and the awesome looking pump that wouldn't make me pick otherwise. Mainly got it for aesthetic reasons, but I'm sure its a great cooler as well.

Motherboard

Liked the placement of most of the internal ports, allowed me to get a look that doesn't have the extra wires showing. Also like how I can monitor my cpu temps straight from the board. Plus, the led lights looks awesome as well.

Video Card

Bought it just to pair brands with the MSI board, because the red elements of the card is going against the theme I was going for. Thanks to the instructions from another user here on pcpartpicker, I thought I would manage by plasti dipping the red parts. It was easy to remove the shroud, and also without breaking any warranty stickers.

Case

The deal breaker of getting case for me was whether it had a front hdmi port, and this was the only case that I liked that had one. Had to wait an extra week or too to start my build because it was sold out in my country at that time, but it was well worth it.

Power Supply

Modular, and was deciding whether to go for just the gold rated one, but this was in stock and decided to try titanium rated since I'll probably be using this system for a long time too. 750w seems just nice for me since I have no plans to SLI.

Case Fan

Works with hue+, and also keeping the NZXT brand compatibility together.

Case Fan

Once again, works with hue+, and also keeping the NZXT brand compatibility together.

Keyboard

After using my previous keyboard, a steelseries 7G, decided that I didn't require the numpad as much as it taking up space and also widening the length between my WASD controls and the mouse.

Mouse

Coming from a G502 without spectrum, thought I I would just try wireless out as well. Preferred Logitech mice because of they give my hand the most comfort too.

Other

Syncing the Kraken, Aer RGB fans and RGB LEDs together in a spectrum wave, why not?

nice paint job on the gaming x gpu, they should make a stock card in black....+1

Chubbby 1 Build 2 points 1 month ago

They should, and then they could market it as "carbon" and go with the godlike carbon MoBo

AerysCrestfall submitter 1 Build 1 point 1 month ago

So true, I think many people didn't mind paying the premium just to go for the strix because of that. Red just sticks out too much :/

Hector1908 3 Builds 2 points 1 month ago

You are so right , I did . I have two 1070`s and they match good with black/red setup only so this time I got strix . If I'm not wrong that card looks more square in the front right? Which is better .

Hector1908 3 Builds 2 points 1 month ago

Totally , black you can pair with any other color . Great job .

AerysCrestfall submitter 1 Build 1 point 1 month ago

I agree so much on this. Almost went for a strix just because of the colour scheme. But decided to stick to MSI because the rma reputation with Asus is bad in my country :/

Another SAO fanboy... Wish season 2 wasnt bad, the first one is good for me.

AerysCrestfall submitter 1 Build 1 point 1 month ago

Yup I read the novel years back and the animation was just sort of a recap for me. The ordinal scale movie was also kinda meh to me

Kobay 2 points 1 month ago

Season 1's first half was pretty decent. After that the series kinda went down hill. I haven't watched the ordinal scale movie yet but I watch Your Name last year and it was good. I kinda want to watch a silent voice, but I can't find it on the internet...

jdcnawy 2 points 1 month ago

i agree, aincrad was the best of the series

AerysCrestfall submitter 1 Build 1 point 1 month ago

I usually watch my jap/korean related shows on kiss anime/asian. A silent voice has showed up there but unfortunately no video uploaded yet :( Guess you could wait for a bit. The quality there is quite good

Jokin_Is_Here 1 point 1 month ago

True to that

Raratah 2 Builds 2 points 1 month ago

Beautiful RGB build. Good cable management. +1

AerysCrestfall submitter 1 Build 1 point 1 month ago

Thanks! I guess a little bit of OCD-ness helps haha

kenlao 2 points 1 month ago

can you send a video paint your 1080 ti?

AerysCrestfall submitter 1 Build 2 points 1 month ago

Sorry, I didn't video the process but I just sprayed 4 light coats with a 20 minute wait in between them and then a few more because the finishing didn't look so good.

kenlao 2 points 1 month ago

ok thanks :)

rhali8 2 Builds 2 points 1 month ago

0/10, no RGB thermal paste.

AerysCrestfall submitter 1 Build 1 point 1 month ago

LOL

arkadialol 2 points 1 month ago

one day i hope to build a pc as RGB as this

AerysCrestfall submitter 1 Build 1 point 1 month ago

I believe you can! Are you waiting for price drops or for next gen stuff to hit first?

arkadialol 1 point 1 month ago

I'm just waiting for some sales first... all of these parts are rather expensive...

Nater650 1 point 19 days ago

Plan on also building an RGB gaming PC

Justiceinacan 4 Builds 2 points 1 month ago

Awesome repaint on that viddy'oh card!

AerysCrestfall submitter 1 Build 1 point 1 month ago

Yeah best part is that its peel-able, so no rma issues. crosses fingers

Pavi 2 points 1 month ago

RGB OVERLOAD

Pavi Approves +1

Pachi 2 Builds 1 point 1 month ago

I like your name.

Pavi 1 point 1 month ago

Thank you I like yours too :-)

AerysCrestfall submitter 1 Build 1 point 1 month ago

I need to figure out how your names are related haha! You've got me searching it up

Pachi 2 Builds 2 points 1 month ago

AND THEN THE DANKEST OF MEMES ROSE OUT OF THE PSU SHROUD AND BLESSED THE RGGEZB PC WITH IT'S MEMES.

ahen

I like it. I like it a lot.

AerysCrestfall submitter 1 Build 1 point 1 month ago

What is this meme that you're talking about? I tried searching Pachi and Pavi but didn't get anything though lol

Pachi 2 Builds 2 points 1 month ago

Nah, there's no meme. It's just our names sound kinda similar and look similar.

AerysCrestfall submitter 1 Build 1 point 1 month ago

Oh, alright. Haha!

syg101 3 Builds 2 points 1 month ago

Just Wow +1

blockbuster4664 1 Build 2 points 1 month ago

SNIFFFFFFFFFF I smell some feature worthy stuff right here

AerysCrestfall submitter 1 Build 1 point 1 month ago

I actually used the S340 Elite build giveaway video that they did as a guide on what cables to connect haha!

blockbuster4664 1 Build 2 points 1 month ago

XD nice, that's what this website is for anyways, getting inspiration for your own build

Caminon 1 Build 2 points 1 month ago

All black MSi card looks really nice!

AerysCrestfall submitter 1 Build 1 point 1 month ago

ikr? was really worried about the red when I got it.

blockbuster4664 1 Build 2 points 1 month ago

Honestly all black is the only way I would buy that card

Zurus 2 Builds 2 points 1 month ago

What temps are you running and in what games?

Also does the Kraken have a good amount of clearance in the s340 elite case?

AerysCrestfall submitter 1 Build 1 point 1 month ago

I think I just ran a quick test on timespy and got 9001. Temps on idle with my system apps, basic voice stuff, whatsapp and browsers is about 40 degrees on both cpu and gpu. Also turned on the hybrid mode for the psu and can't hear anything on startup now.

As for the kraken x62, I must say that it fits just nice without having to struggle or anything. If I wanted to do a push/pull config I would need to remove the cable management bar. But that doesn't seem necessary for now I suppose :)

Zurus 2 Builds 2 points 1 month ago

Thanks

conrapp 1 point 1 month ago

Wait so what are your temp for the gpu under gaming load?

AerysCrestfall submitter 1 Build 1 point 1 month ago

Under full gaming load I'm seeing around high 60s to the low 70s

Mike2k24 2 points 1 month ago

Where's your RGB printer?

AerysCrestfall submitter 1 Build 1 point 1 month ago

No need for a printer because I print everything at work. ssshhh dont tell..

Mike2k24 2 points 1 month ago

Hah nice

ewhac 1 Build 2 points 1 month ago

Whoa. Corsair makes an RGB mouse mat? How did I not know this?

Looks like I never need think of Razer again... :-)

AerysCrestfall submitter 1 Build 1 point 1 month ago

Yeah.. The razer mice I had always manages to failed me one way or the other. Plus, I prefer using a hard mat because its easy to clean and doesn't look "used" (after using it for some time) as you get on those soft ones.

ewhac 1 Build 2 points 1 month ago

My mouse surface is a 15-year-old 3M Precise Mousing Surface (purchased to use with an original Razer Boomslang) sitting on top of a 25-year-old neoprene Cool Friends of NewTek mousepad, which has been in use since my Amiga days.

Might be time to upgrade... :-)

myk_o 1 Build 2 points 1 month ago

WOW. I didn't know you were using the 1080Ti version of the card. Even though it is thicker than my 1080, you still managed to get it to work. Black looks great on the card. I might need to copy how you routed your liquid cooler cable behind the 24 pin cables :D

+++++++1

AerysCrestfall submitter 1 Build 1 point 1 month ago

Thanks! Getting the atx cable to "bend" properly was the second most time consuming part haha, first being spraying the gpu.

Connor_The_Gamer 2 points 16 days ago

Montagable 2 points 11 days ago

This is the most beautiful thing I have seen in my life.. I give 1000 up votes because SAO is best anime

AerysCrestfall submitter 1 Build 1 point 1 month ago

Saw that little hole near the SSD and decided to put in the ragout rabbit from the series. not sure if it looks weird though. Updated the images to show a closer look of the nendoroid :)

koushik99 1 point 1 month ago

how you open the gaming x shroud? and how did you paint it? spray paint

AerysCrestfall submitter 1 Build 1 point 1 month ago

You can easily dismantle the shroud by removing a few screws within the fans and then the red portion is held on by some caches. You don't need to remove the cooler in order to do this so no warranty voided.

I used black Plasti Dip to spray. The rubber paint is removable by peeling (after a few layers so it is thick enough) just in case you mess up or need to send the card in for RMA.

AeliosZero 1 point 29 days ago

Your system is the closest one I have seen to my system. What are the rgb options like for the MSI gaming m7 mobo? I heard they can only do like 16 different cvolours or something.

AerysCrestfall submitter 1 Build 1 point 27 days ago

You only get to pick one colour at a time, so I didn't really bother and just stuck with white, or use cpu temp colour tracking. There isn't even an option to let you do like all different colours cycle

AeliosZero 2 points 22 days ago

Purchased the board and I see what you mean. Luckily the few colours they have there are the most useful ones. There is nothing stopping it from having insane colour options/effects. Its just bad/lazy programming. We should really complain to MSI about that.
