Description

Sold my useless(for me) laptop MSI GE72MVR. And I needed a build that fits in a backpack. It's sad that big shuriken 2.b discontinued, so the 3rd version, but it not fits in Node 202. Used standouts and different screws like in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bT2h0WS80GU.

Part Reviews

CPU

High performance! after being on 7700HQ, this CPU just amazing))). UV -100mv, and thermals in my tight case, now very acceptable, on load 66-69

CPU Cooler

It's kinda SFF cooler, but it didn't fit in most popular sff cases. In my case i needed to use standouts and longer screws. 2.b version sadly discontinued. But after all: very quiet, cool and really with high CFM.

Motherboard

Nice price for Z390 mini ITX mobo. I have only one cons: why Asrock you use wired antenna?

Memory

It's a C-die RAM, just ok. For the price - very good

Video Card

Nice value! High QHD performance. Yeah it's hot! But in SFF cases i prefer to use turbine GC, you need to exhaust all hot air from case. UV in wattman: 1950Mhz - 1055mV And modify a fan curve. Junction - 94C, GPU - 79C

Nice build, the specs seem ambitious for the space. I'm getting hot just looking at that! ( I had an i7 8700/rtx 2080 build in the node 202, the thermals were terrible.)

Thermals just nice) Non-synthetic(in game) CPU - 71C; GPU: Junction - 91C GPU1 - 75C Memory - 82C VRM - 68C; MB - 53C

Would you recommend this build? I am not sure what's junction but 94ºC is not too much?

thermals comparison with Sapphire Pulse. I have a better temps, but more dB(in headphones i didn't hear it), modded fan curve and UV in wattman. Also AMD says, here, that junction up to 110C is ok. So yes, i can recommend this build. Anyway in small cases blower style GC highly recommended.

Thank you for the reply. Why did you modify the fan curve and UV, too much heat? What are the temps if you don't mod the fan curve and UV?

Please, could you link the exact GPU model you have?

If you read about a reference card, yes they are hot, but in limits set by amd, if don’t make uv and fan curve, silent and junction temp up to 105-110, after 110 in junction, GC goes to throttle. In fact, stock fan curve limited by 50% rpm. After uv I have a bit louder, and lower temps. 90-95 in junction(depends on game), and 60%rpm. No throttle at all. My model is powercolor, but they are all same.

Thank you again!

Last question. Is the system audible when idle (not gaming)? I plan to use it also for work and I wouldn't like to be bothered by the GPU blower type fan.

when idle, almost, not at all. in load yep, but scythe is very silent. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bT2h0WS80GU if you asking about GC noise: 680rpm - GC fan, 900rpm - CPU fan. So you can't hear GC fan.
