Description

Hi all!

This build originaly started as this system

Since october last year until now i have been switching/ upgrading various components, for the sake of small performance increases, changing needs, looks and silence, until finally i am happy with the results.

The changes are:

-GPU: from gtx 970 to a gtx 1060 (i don't game too much anymore so the 1070-80 would have been too much, specially for a 1080p 144hz monitor);

-RAM: got the led vengeance just for looks;

-the 2.5" hdd and the 480gb ssd both installed in the back trays;

-PSU: wanted a newer model with a long warranty;

-added a Sound Card coupled with some audio tehnica ath-avc500 headphones;

-changed all the fans for quieter ones;

-changed the lighting kit to a HUE+ for obvious reasons :D

-replaced the RAT 7 with a newer RAT 6;

-replaced a monitor and installed both on a dual arm desk support.

I use this pc for pretty much everything - CAD work, rendering, gaming, browsing, movies, music etc.

I don't render enough to get on the X99 platform and i don't game enough to get a higher end GPU so the entire build is balanced for all my needs and did my best to make it look good.

It was also important that the system was quiet. The new fans are amazing when compared to the old corsairs i had, the PSU is dead silent, the green edition hdd has very little noise and the new laptop hdd is put on rubber stands so i can't hear that one either. The new strix GPUs are also pretty silent with fans under 50%.

The strix sound card is very good for its price point in my opinion. Coupled with some good headphones it really made a difference over the mobo's sound card (which is also decent btw).

One problem i encountered was with the corsair PSU - a few months into its life it suddenly went bang with a puff of smoke :) Lucky me, none of the other parts suffered and i got it replaced under warranty. I blame it on simple bad luck since i know these models are damn good.

So there it is - no more upgrades planned for a while and i plan on keeping the 6700k platform for at least 3 generations of new cpus and sockets.

Overall i'm very happy with it all :) Hope you guys like it as well!

cable management is on par. Just make sure kilo rhen does not electrocute himself

Its in a display case so its probably there for sentimental reasons or just for S&Gs.

gift from my friends - broken gtx 690 on a piece from a broken mobo inside a small custom display box :) it's basically decoration

I was gonna get a purple case, but that's not much in the market. I deadly want purple LED light in the case. Where did you get all of those purple LED light? Can I get the brand and model names of LED lights please?

It's the NZXT HUE+ lighting kit- see in my part list. One controller hub and 4 x 30cm rgb led strips. Nothing in the case is actually purple other than the led color.

Those Fractal fans in your part list are installed in the front as intakes / push for the AIO, i guess? If so, do you think it's wise to have those BeQuiets in pull, because those really don't have the same specs.

Yes the Fractals are pushing air through the radiator, the BeQuiets pull air and are also airflow fans not sp fans. The Fractals are set to a max of 800 rpm pulling fresh air from outside and are doing a great job at that low speed. The BeQuiets are controlled by the gpu not cpu so their goal is to send as much air as they can to the gpu when needed. This has helped my gpu cool better and those fans are quieter than the gpu's own fans which gives me less overall noise.

The temperatures i specified in the build details are not a lie, somehow this setup work very well, trust me :)

Awesome build man! :) Does the gpu have some other colors than black (not the rgb lights of course)?

  • 37 months ago

nope just black - shiny black on the backplate and matte black on the cooler shroud

Loving the purple and red :) ever think of rigging up the LED in the 690 to glow off a battery hidden inside it? Maybe with a little switch on the side, just thought that'd be pretty cool :D

Jeez that corsair itx case... Are you confident enough to have a carry case? That will rip whatever gpu you put in there, just like the deco one i see on your desk? Unless youre smart and handy and searched far and wide for a solution that is so ingenius and creative it saves countless graphics cards from death by bump on the road.

Um, ok... Maybe i need some sleep...

I don't even have that system anymore :) but while i did, the gpu was just fine...the broken 690 on my desk was just a gift for decoration...so i have no ideea how it died...

Please tell me you still have the purple build... its so pretty! :D not to mention star wars theme!

Oh and also, sorry to bother, but where do you get your cables? cablemod? it seems a bit expensive for just cables, granted theyre custom made but i was looking for some other company or site who makes custom cables maybe even cheaper.

It's no bother at all.

My current builds are the Evolv V3, the Styx, and my latest - Jerry :)

My cables are in fact extensions, not full cables and they are all from Phanteks. I chose extensions instead of cables because i change components a lot, including PSUs and if I get cables, they might not be compatible with other PSUs... extensions are universal :)

It would be pretty funny if the kylo figure was in a different case and was blocking the only airflow for the gpu, then you could definitely say he was choking the gpu :P

Actually i put him in there so he won't smash up any consoles when he gets angry at his minions for letting droids get away. He also makes sure the fans keep spinning - even with a little lightning if needed...
