Description

PCPartPicker!

This is my first build. I think I did a pretty decent job. Please let me know what you think.

Its main use is YouTube......jk.....I know how upset people get when you overbuild.....it'll for sure be used for facebook too!

Here are a few notes on the build:

  1. I am holding out for a GPU - Hopefully get one on boxing day or when the litecoin market 'lite-ins up' on the 280x.
  2. Cable management - Used a lot of pictures from other posters. What do you think?
  3. Not going to OC until the GPU comes in.
  4. In the picture I am showing the K60 keyboard. I used this for a week and returned for the K70 because the K60 sucks! It is not 100% mechanical and total scam by Corsair if you ask me. They did redeem themselves with the K70. Got MX Brown.
  5. Did not mention the speakers or the Acer monitor as they were hand-me-downs and not ideal.

I hope you like it! Let me know what you think.

Cheers

Update 20/12/13 - As recommended by bu1ld1ngaPC I rotated the upper HDD bay 90 degrees to increase airflow and put the HDD on the bottom rack. Seems to be a 1 Deg improvement on idle. Thx!

Darn, at least you have intel graphics. I'm on an 8350 build, so I have this old Geforce 210 just to get it up and running. I will be putting the graphics card in on Chritmas.

Once it sticks its little PCI connectors in our computers, trust me. We will be in business.

Haha, I agree Firecrackers!

I have been keeping occupied with Antichamber for the time being. Not a game of graphics by any means, but very interesting/challenging.

Check it out if you haven't already.

A few other games that should run fine for you that you might want to consider (they've been eating a ton of my time as of late): Terraria, Starbound, and Electronic Super Joy (if you like platforming and electronic music. It's weird, I just built a kick *** gaming rig, and I've got a bunch of new/fairly new AAA games on my PC (BF4, AC4, Rome II, etc.), and I've still been spending the majority of my free time on the cheap indy titles...

Thanks for the recommendations. I'm going to grab Electronic Super Joy for sure....sounds wicked.

Another good indy title you should check out is 'Race the Sun.' Turn down the game music and put your choice of high paced track on in the background, and you've got an intense game going (a gamepad is pretty much necessary though).

It's really fun, however, your neighbors will hear your swearing...

Indie Games have been kicking AAAA titles' butt lately. Big productions have just forgotten about fun gameplay, it seems. Hotline Miami and FTL are on sale on Steam right now. Highly Recommend those too. AH, another title you HAVE TO play is Mark of the Ninja.

SUCH a great game. Frustrating sometimes, but really good. +1 on the build, though. That's the same motherboard I'm going to use. How do you like it?

Thanks Grove4life. I think it's a sweet game too. The MB is great, but since I don't have an optical drive, I downloaded the drivers and have not had success with the OC software. But, not going to worry until I get a GPU.

you can turn the upper hard drive cage 90 degrees and screw back into place for better airflow if you dont want it removed entirely.

Nice build! Should have maybe waited to post when you got your gpu but still.

A note: if I were you, I would change the way you have set up the H100i. If you're not doing push/pull, you want to have the fans on top, sucking air through the radiator and blowing it out of the case, not on the bottom, pushing air through it. This is a pull config, with the fans on top. This will reduce noise and, most importantly, it will improve the cooling performance. Also, it looks cleaner.

I'm not making this up, I had found a page where someone tested all the configurations and that was the best, after push/pull. Unfortunately I can't find the link right now. I had it set up the same way too, you can see it in my main build, but switched it around and got better results.

Bladedrummer - I think I know what you are talking about. Please send me a link of a build with a picture so I know 100%. Cheers.

Sure thing. Here are some pics of my build with the pull configuration. Another added value is that there will be a LOT less dust build up between the fans and the radiator. It will be easier to just use compressed air without taking the whole thing apart.

From the bottom, From the top, Side 01, Side 02

Edit: sorry about the pic quality, they were taken with a potato.

Bladedrummer - Thanks a lot for the pics. Fully clear and an easy switch to do. Will do the switch once the GPU is secured.

Cheers.

I wouldn't bother waiting out the Lite Coin crap, just go ahead and get a 770. You get all of the performance of a 280X and some extra features, such as Shadowplay and the upcoming GSync. The price is maybe like 20$ difference.

Anyone that isn't interested in mining themselves, imo, should be selling their AMD cards and going Nvidia. Really no reason not to. Extra money in pocket to use for the next card up.

Thanks for the tip. Will check out 770 deals over boxing day. Cheers.

When did you get the parts? Those are some pretty sweet prices on the H100 and the SSD (especially for Canada)

Secured on Black Friday. H100i from Canada Computers. SSD from Newegg.

What GPU are you planning on getting?

I'm struggling. I really want the R9 280x, but not willing to pay an extra 100 just because of the litecoin crowd. Thus, I will hold out until the prices come back to normal demand, once the coin becomes more difficult to mine.

Just saying but you really didn't need this build for youtube. AN I7 FOR ******* YOUTUBE. You could have saved some money and gotten a cheaper computer

I like it, I just don't get the purpose. Based on the keyboard and mouse I read gaming, based on the processor and RAM I get 3D modelling/encoding/heavy rendering.

Thanks Atechless. The keyboard and mouse have great build quality. Yes, I'm not a massive gamer, but they are sweet. I'm into music and will eventually load some mixing software onto it/get a card so I can record my guitar, etc.
