Description

I use this machine for mostly gaming and work for school. It is my first custom build and I had the chance to shop the best components for my need and experience new things. First of all, pros...

Fractal Design R4 case offers everything I was looking for in a case ; nice and simple look, filters and great airflow... and great build quality! My graphic card was the best price for the performance in the kind of games I like to play, which ranges from Rocket League to Warhammer total war. My CPU and CPU cooler are great. I had never overclocked before and with this config and a friendly BIOS, I am working with a 4,5 ghz stable overclock with max temps in the low 40s under load. (my room is around 20 celcius).

I will upload pictures soon!

CONS,

My radiator didn't fit on top (interference with the mobo), I needed to set it as a front double intake!

Tuck all of your wires and wrap them behind the motherboard tray. Make better use of grommet cutouts to hide others. You can look at my build which uses a internally identical case to get an example. Then your build will be clean and flow air better.

Thanks man, I will look and try to make it cleaner!

Huh, you went with the sabertooth motherboard... Still, nice build +1

So how does the GTX 960 hold up with your gaming? Planning on grabbing one for my build, and wondered how well it worked out for ya.

For what I do its great, playing solid 60 fps in all my games without going over 50-55 celcius (custom fan curve) I mostly play small games like rocket league, LOL, Overwatch but I tested it in Warhammer and its fluid (high graphics, not ultra) and mostly 60 fps (sometimes drops to 50 while zooming in battle). so if you don't mind not pushing to the limit every game (like high instead of ultra) and you plan to play in full HD 60 fps, its great!

Graphics are still eye candy at High anyway, and in my case I dont even have a screen that can do over 60 fps and over 1920x1080, so the 960 fits my needs perfectly and I would 100% buy again!

Sounds great! I don't care for ultra, high would be just fine. Also planning on grabbing a 60hz monitor, so no need for more than 60fps. Thanks for the reply!

Did you install the Fractal Design 40mm on the motherboard behind the port armor? if so, does it actually help any? Thinking of getting this MoBo and want to know if the fan is worth it. Thanks in advance.

The fan isn't that much of a difference maker in my build. The airflow is unrestricted and massive coming in from a push/pull dual 120mm radiator in front and a 140mm on the bottom of the case while two 140mm are exhaust (one back and one top of the case). Its also a fractal R4 designed for a good airflow. For the small price of the fan I would say its worth trying it if you are building in a smaller case with normal airflow might make a little difference! In my case I bought it mostly to test it out on my first build ever, was curious and the mobo comes with a small filter, so why not add a small intake! (positive pressure rules!!)

Thanks for the info! Will definitely take that into consideration.

I will have to get back to you with temps of the motherboard with and without the fan turned on! Back with those results soon
