Description

Got most of this back in August of 2010 for a budget of around 500, have since changed cpu, video card, ram, and added more hdd space. Originally had an Athlon II x3 440, 2GB of DDR2 then doubled it with another 2gb (eventually replacing with an 8gb kingston dual channel kit and then adding 8 more). The video card was a modest HD 5550 just for HDCP and video playback/ light gaming. As time went on it aged like they all do so we gave her a boost with a phenom II x4 945 (31$, it was 5$ for the phenom badge). Also added a Powercolor Radeon 6950 (54$, including 20 dollar rebate from the egg). Unlocked the shaders on the 6950 bios (1406) to the 6970's count of 1536 and did a little OC. The old hitachi deskstar is from an external hdd whose power died within the enclosure so i took it out. The 160GB WD is from my old Athlon XP build from 2005 or so...

Could you post a few more inside pics? Not that benchmarks aren't nice, but I want to see the computer along with its performance.

Also, you probably should have gotten 2 1 TB caviar blue hard drives for more storage and a lower price. Other than that, nice job keeping it within a good price.

Nice build, it's really weird seeing all these old parts because PCPP is chock full of i7-6700K builds paired with 980Tis.

For reals, I can't believe people are spending $2k on their builds on average.

how did this all add up to 600 XD not a bad build but you might have wanted to put more concern on performace than all that storage the toshiba would have covered all of his needs

This is my personal computer that i made in 2010 that includes 2 older hard drives. The Toshiba was a recent addition when the WD Green got corrupted and i had to zero it out and re-format. The prices here aren't accurate @ purchase it was around 550$ i believe.

I had the Athlon II x3 440 until the phenom i got used, it never unlocked and i was stuck with a tri-core for years. It wasn't bad though, hopefully it unlocks!
