Build

Z370 Gaming Rig

by M3gatron1177

Description

I use this mostly to game a 1440p and 4k and is is an absolute beauty and a beast at the same time

Part Reviews

CPU

Great CPU (if you can get one) finally a 6 core intel mainstream platform cpu it overclocks like a demon hitting 5ghz without issue and performs great for games and cpu intensive tasks

CPU Cooler

This cooler is Beautiful and functional keeping my overclocked i5 8600k cool with a 5ghz overclock and the pump doesnt get too loud either.

Motherboard

Good quality mobo which allowed me to get decent overclocks it looks great in my black/red build. Has great I/O and a solid set of features and the bios is simple and easy to use. One gripe would be that the USB 3.0 header isn't angled but that's just me being overly critical

Memory

its ram it does ram things with no issues 5 stars

Storage

Nice fast SSD with really fast read/write speeds boots windows in under 5 seconds

Storage

it stores things and they don't get lost what more could you ask for.

Video Card

this card is a beast the whole VRM issue is over and this card can do 1440p and 4k gaming almost no compromises (if you want 4K@60FPS you might have to dial down a couple settings) i have a nice stable overclock offset of +250mhz and this card does 2200mhz in games and +500mhz on the memory making it 11ghz effective the cooler keeps this card cool even at max overclock with an aggressive fan curve and still stays quiet enough to be inaudible while sitting 3 feet away with an open back set of headphones.

Case

Beautiful case great for my red/black aesthetic very nice side panel window easy to build in and great cable management. Amazing case.

Power Supply

It powers my pc and is cool and efficient while doing so. the included cables are a real pain to bend especially the 24 pin but they are good quality cables and are all black.

I am pretty much getting a build that is very close to this one, how is the 8600k/1080 combo?

M3gatron1177 submitter 1 Build 1 point 10 months ago

1440p high 144hz no problem the 1080 is a beast i have done some 4k high 60hz gaming too the 8600k will serve well for games for a few years i believe but theres always an upgrade path to the 8700k if necessary

Biono 5 points 10 months ago

I like how you simply copied the answer from the first question

How is this MOBO with overclocking? I just got it and I am pairing it with a i7-8700k. It seems like it doesn't have many power phases.

How does the i5 8600k and 1080 perform on games? I'm curious as I am getting the same build and I can't find any benchmarks for them. Nice build also, ~7

Nice! How are your temps though on the 8600k? Some people on reddit are getting crazy high temps!

M3gatron1177 submitter 1 Build 2 points 10 months ago

my temps are actually really nice considering what ive seen, im idling about 30 and peaking at around 80 under stress testing on prime 95 for a few hours

As someone with an i5 8600k and a Cryorig C1 (small case too), I',m seeing 83c at max load in something like BF1 (4.6ghz across all cores with vcore set to 1.19). I'd imagine that water cooling would help quite a bit!

xxvolwarexx 3 Builds 1 point 10 months ago

What're you getting for temperatures? I bet the water cooler helps, regardless!

M3gatron1177 submitter 1 Build 1 point 10 months ago

im getting about 30-40 idle and around 80c after stress testing for a few hours with prime 95

xxvolwarexx 3 Builds 1 point 10 months ago

Those are good temps! Good to hear friend!

codya2014 1 point 10 months ago

hey boss, question, I see in the comments your temps peaking 80c, is that with the 5ghz OC you were mentioning or stock?

M3gatron1177 submitter 1 Build 1 point 10 months ago

thats with the OC but i got a really good chip and didnt need too much voltage to get to 5 ghz so that might have something to do with the temps

codya2014 1 point 10 months ago

yeah, I'm just trying to get a base estimate, I know coffee lakes temps are supposed to be improved, I plan on buying the same but I don't OC so just trying to gauge whether water-cooling is a need at the moment. After the warranty runs out ill OC and do a custom loop but mine as well save while I can. Thanks for the response and beautiful build.

M3gatron1177 submitter 1 Build 1 point 10 months ago

if you arent going to oc until the warranty period is over you should be perfectly fine with an air cooler although you shouldnt worry about voiding your warranty, cpus rarely fail just dont go crazy with your oc voltages and you should have no worries

codya2014 1 point 10 months ago

oh yeah, just my luck with everything seems to be to break on sight, ill probably get a watercooler or take a swing at a custom loop when I can afford it and OC then.

Are you using pre-applied paste? And do you think a 240 Rad will be fine, such as the corsair cooler

M3gatron1177 submitter 1 Build 1 point 10 months ago

i used arctic mx 4 thermal compound and there is not much difference between the kraken x62 and kraken x52 so you should be fine with a 240 rad also the preapplied thermal paste is okay i just had a small issue during the build and the thermal paste got all smudged so i wiped it off and used the spare tube of mx 4 i had lying around

MusketBallHugo 1 point 10 months ago

Cool thanks

How is that MoBo doing for you. I was thinking about buying it but I have seen some people having problems with AIO collers and is it easy to OC the CPU with it

i see you too are a fan of the great red and black your pc build is looking mighty fine also love the build name i would've built something similar to yours if coffee lake hadn't come out also love the cables for the 24 pin and gpu where you get them?

Toledo090819 1 Build 1 point 10 months ago

cable mod. thanks for your input. i appreciate it.
