Description

Okay, So I need a build for my apartment and my other build ( secret until its done) isn't finished. I wanted something i can use to do school work and gaming from time to time. I go to college and i have a 4 hour break ( ouch, I know i can study but why study when i can game?) I wanted something cheap but doesn't take up that much space. I needed something in a rush so i just chose a bunch of random parts to order within one hour so they can ship the same day ( actually did, got it within 1 day with free 2 day shipping i have) I will be upgrading in future.

Upgrading in future : 1) Power supply plan on getting a Evga at least a 500w 2) add a graphics card, most likely a Radeon R7 250 ( can get for like 60 on ebay) 3) blu ray dvd drive (to play movies)

cpu: went with a AMD A10-7870k because i didn't want to buy a graphics card and this thing is fast but it heats up like crazy i have my own heater. games well only tested minecraft (250 fps) and battlefield 4 ( got 60 fps max on medium 1080p) it games well so far and no stuttering issues or lag.

cpu cooler: honestly i picked this up from staples for 9$ ( same price as newegg) and i replaced the thermal paste with arctic silver and temps never go above 50c so guess thats good, its decently quiet, the case fans are louder than it.

motherboard: probably the cheapest when i bought it 3 weeks ago, first board came rma but now its working and running well. only wish is if it had more fan headers maybe 1 more so i wouldn't need to use a molex power.bios is easy to use

ram: got it on sale for 40$ for 8gb with fast 2400MHz and nice looking heatsink. I love this ram

ssd: No lie, this thing is blazing fast. Boots up windows within 3 seconds as soon as i turn it on. storage is good enough for small applications and 2-3 games i want to play on a ssd. its held by electrical tape cause its 2015 tape works with anything

hdd: normal 1tb holds a lot of games, programs and music and my photos.

case: for my uses i won't be needing another power supply for awhile so i choose a case that has a power supply. the case itself is a fingerprint magnet. No clue what was rosewill was thinking with this case? Maybe they were drunk? but its all High Gloss EVERYWHERE! its annoying because if i put my feet on the top of the case ( do not recommend this) my feet prints get stuck ( LOL) the case itself actually is nice holds two 5.25" Drive Bays and one external 3.5" bay ( gonna use for a extra usb hub) holds two 3.5" hard drives so good enough for me and able to hold some ssds with tape :D

power supply: 400w wish it came with more sata cables ( only has two) seems to be working well but planning on upgrading it within a month.

Issues I had: 1) the first motherboard came broken so had to rma it and needed to wait 2 more days to build 2) had to use a cheap apu to upgrade bios in order for the amd a10-7870k to work ( had one laying around) 3) power supply only had 2 sata powers

overall: works well and its really fast

Part Reviews

CPU

fast, works really well no issues but it does get hot

CPU Cooler

better than stock cooler i think, is quiet

Motherboard

first came rma and second has usb 3.0 port issues so gotta rma again but system still runs and bios is easy enough

Memory

fast speed, looks good 8gb of ram

Storage

works well, its super fast

Storage

1tb of storage. good for programs, games+music

the plastic wrap can cause the heat to get stuck inside the casing if it blocks the air vents

you might want to remove them

Twee submitter 6 Builds 2 points 43 months ago

Yeah I removed them as soon as I took the pictures

Good on you for replacing the PSU soon. It is only a 324w unit and not good quality at all.

Twee submitter 6 Builds 2 points 43 months ago

yeah i know, probably gonna get a evga 500w and keep this power suppy as a small test bench

tiny_voices 4 Builds 2 points 43 months ago

Get the 500B not the 500w. Both are not great, but the 500b is significantly better.

Twee submitter 6 Builds 3 points 43 months ago

yeah that was the one i was planning on getting plus a 10$ rebate is nice

kurkuro 2 points 43 months ago

You might want to replace your CPU Cooler. I checked amazon and it mentioned only having 70 W of cooling capacity, meaning the 7870k can overheat because of it's 95 W TDP. But, after all, it's your build, so please do waht fits you most.

I did not try the stock cooler that came with my 7870K, but I think it would perform better than this Arctic. You can change the fan for a better or nicer looking one too.

Twee submitter 6 Builds 2 points 43 months ago

Yeah I plan on changing the cooler to a coolermaster tx3 or tx 4

Twee submitter 6 Builds 2 points 43 months ago

yeah i know but it will do for now so far highest it gotten was 55c while playing battlefield 4, hopefully it can fit a Cooler Master Hyper TX3. not sure if my case can fit a evo so either the tx3 or tx4 will do

if you are looking at Cooler Master coolers

look for the Gemini series

they are slim coolers but have huge fins which are wide for cooling

OpTicHK 2 points 43 months ago

It's funny to me how you keyboard and mouse cost almost half of what your computer costs, I do like them thought, and it is a nice build.

Twee submitter 6 Builds 2 points 43 months ago

Hehe thanks I had them from my last build that I sold so kept the mouse and keyboard

OpTicHK 2 points 41 months ago

oh, lol

aerophoenix1 1 Build 2 points 42 months ago

Just going to throw this out there, but how did you getnm the CPU, for such a good price? And Have you tried the stock cooler?

Twee submitter 6 Builds 2 points 42 months ago

Craigslist is your best friend. I didn't try the stock cooler it will probably do better than the one I have listed here but I replace it with a coolermaster tx3 and temps went down by 5°

lolorigin 2 points 41 months ago

I like it, but couple of things. 1) The PSU- problem solved I guess 2) The motherboard- Why pick an A68? You can't do much like overclocking. 3) Cooler- I'm not telling you to get a liquid one, but the Cooler Master Hyper EVO 212 (forgot the name) or the Scythe Kotetsu should go better. These will be cheap and quiet with high overclocking capability.

Everything else- b

Twee submitter 6 Builds 2 points 41 months ago

not overclocking, i upgraded the cpu cooler to a 212 evo already =)

Immune 2 points 41 months ago

Does the board have an hdmi port

Soundwaves699 2 points 38 months ago

No, It has D-Sub (VGA) and DVI

sirkittylover 1 point 19 months ago

love the taped on SSD

woahwoahwilly 2 Builds 1 point 5 months ago

I'd like to hear the story of how that power supply hasn't burned down your apartment.

Twee submitter 6 Builds 1 point 5 months ago

Wouldn’t know sold this pc within a month after building lol

i tried gta 5 before i sold it i got 60 fps on low settings with some medium details, if you wanted something to play like xbox one imports like gta 5 etc.. this is great but don't expect any high settings without a gpu to go along with it. I didn't overclock it but i did install a coolermaster tx3 i got for 10$ and the temps dropped from 50c to 40c
