Description

Named after one of the moons of Jool, I built Vall for my career/hobby in video editing, gaming, and doing other intensive tasks like streaming Kerbal Space Program. I built her for performance and quietness first, and aesthetics second. She ain't the flashiest, but for my purposes she is an absolute beast. :)

I started building around Christmas 2015 and have been slowly adding on ever since. Started at ~$750 with a GTX 660 and an AMD FX-8320 and 8 gigs of Team Elite RAM. After my Gigabyte AMD MoBo stopped recognizing my USB 3.0 driver I decided it was time to upgrade to an Asus board and Intel i5-6500. Early January 2016 I upgraded to an i7-6700k, GTX 970, and brand new Corsair carbide 400q case. In march I upgraded to a GTX 1070, and I made the jump to a 2k monitor around June. Cooling the 970 has been a bit of a problem when it's at 95%+ load, but thre 6700k runs very smoothly and quietly with my cheap zalman radial fan. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone! Also worth noting that cats very much like component boxes. :)

You have a good solid set up. Its ready for your 970 and also a SSD. Well done. Then it will be a serious gaming machine, if your a gamer that is.

I am indeed a gamer. I do mainly CPU intensive tasks such as streaming/video editing and playing Kerbal Space Program so I haven't had to worry too much about my graphics card. I just bought this 970 and I anticipate seeing strong improvements, as my GPU is currently the only bottleneck on my rig ;)

yeah it would put you to high-ultra res at 1080p on most demanding games at 60fps. I recently sold my 970 to get a 980ti, i had it for a year showed it to a work mate as he had a 960 and he was so impressed with its performance he bought it off me for $300 AU, considering i payed $520 for it a year ago. The only 2 brands i trust in GPU. Galax and EVGA. Enjoy your gaming experience.

Looks like you and me have cramped legs in regards to our tower placement. XD

Only a little xD. Not as annoying as you would think though. Makes a nice leg rest.

Just added my peripherals to the list. About time I did so I think. Just bought the Scimitar a week ago. A great mouse.

I don't know if I completely understand, but are you comparing having a 1TB HDD to a 500gb HDD and 240gb SSD combo? Basic principle: SSD > HDD

240gb SSD/500gb HDD would run much faster. If you install windows onto the SSD, your computer will boot waaaaay faster than if you have just a hard drive. Anything that you install onto the SSD will run way faster. I would get a 1TB HDD instead of a 500GB one though - you may find yourself running out of space if you keep a lot of games or film on your computer.
