Description

I had this build for bit before adding new parts. Before, I had a Asus M5A97 LE R2.0 mobo and a EVGA 660ti. Now I have the EVGA GTX 970 SSC and Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0. I can play Shadow of Mordor at 100 fps with high+ultra settings. The Tomb Raider bench was done with a 4.0GHz overclock but now I'm overclocked to 4.2 with nice temps. I took out the optical drive after windows install and cable management is amazing! So far I can play all my games on high and maintain 60 fps or higher!

I'll be showing 3D Mark scores as well so check back for those

Does fx-6300 bottlenecks 970?

I haven't seen any that I know of right now. People say it does and some say it don't. The 6300 performs kinda like an i5 so in my opinion no it doesn't bottleneck.

It does bottleneck the 970 but not too much. In fact, it really shouldn't be that noticeable. But the 6300 isn't really comparable to an i5 at all when it comes to gaming performance. The 4690k absolutely destroys it the 6300.

Its really not noticable. You can just "baby" clock the processor to 4.2 or 4.0 and its ready to go. Plus intel has hyperthreading which kills AMD but I like the performance out of mine so far. I also heard when DX12 come out there will be better optimization too for AMD.

No it won't. Technically yes but I'd rather not dig through that. Just give it a slight overclock and its good to go.

How are you liking that monitor? What're the colors like for you?

I think I have mine set to RTS 1. I like it a lot.

I came across your building looking at completed builds from items in my planned part list. I choose the same cpu and mobo as you and a gtx 970 as well. how well does your system preform in game? what kind of settings can i expect based on games you have run? any foreseen issues or recommendations ?

I'd get the EVGA SSC 970 and I haven't ran into any issues yet. You'll expect high+ultra settings. I have mine overclocked to 4.2 GHz and everthing runs on high or ultra. Like in Shadow of Mordor I can run all Ultra at a steady 80-95 fps. You really don't have to overclock the card and make sure to get MSI Afterburner cause the fans are set to 0 speed. I usually set mine to 50%

i am actually really excited to see this i plan on doing almost the exact same. different motherboard i am also going with gigabyte's G1 GTX 970 (it had better reviews where i checked) do you plan on crossfire or sli later?

No. Not at this time but not a bad idea. I'd have to get a full tower or a different mid-tower case to SLI.

i hear ya, i sadly had to buy in sections. just got my first gtx 970. next up is a new motherboard with the intel 4 core devil's canyon processor. then new ram followed by new case with a water cooling unit. after allll that then i'm going to pop in another gtx 970. kinda hoping for a price drop on them

also, great choice on the ddr3 1866. everywhere i checked they are the perfect balance between latency and speed. due to sacrificing one for the other the 1866 is a great median and achieves the highest scores for ddr3 ram.

Well I built over time. I had a budget build at first and used it for about 5-6 months then I upgraded it from a 660ti and a M5A97 LE R2.0 mobo. I cost me $750 back then. With the new parts it was about $1200
