Description

my laptop couldn't run 'mechwarrior online' anymore so i built this. it works, quite well.

originally had a 'CM hyper 212 evo' on it but i didn't like how close the back plate was to the case. the hole there isn't big enough to reveal the whole cpu cooler mounting, my one complaint on the case.

MWO isn't a very burly or demanding game relative to some. no overclocking, intel box cooler: all temps stay under 50c, cpu usage never breaks 50%. using about 200-400watts with games, 80-200watts with anything else (youtube, netflix, vlc, etc...) eventually i'll do something harder on it. tried 3dmark demo once, didn't work, i think i need to close desktop performance monitors(?).

did the whole deal with vlc to be able to play blu-ray movies (this is just a "burner" so needs additional software for playback capability) but i only have these 2 older chinese kung fu movies. didn't work, i don't know if i did it wrong or these movies just aren't in the library you download for vlc.

didn't have a camera when i hooked everything up so, no pictures of the back.

that will be round 2. once i save up some more $$. i'm just a lowly carpenter making about $20/hr. US but, i have no kids, no girl, no car and i rent a room so i occasionally get to treat myself to something nice.

later i'll add a h100 or something similar, overclock the cpu a little, go to 32GB memory, add more storage (w/ SATA express) and get a bigger 4k monitor for the main and move this one to a secondary.

you're right, it's kind of odd. it was restarting constantly when i first built it so i switched coolers to see if the evo212 mounting hardware was causing a short (ended up being a loose connection somewhere that i must have gotten on the 3rd try, never did figure out exactly what it was). so, i put the intel cooler on just to see if that was it. researched the highly esteemed h100i's mounting system and it appears to be much smaller so i decided to go with that.
however, mechwarrior online is the most demanding thing i do and that's never gotten it to break 50c degrees so in all honesty...i'm just being lazy because i don't look forward to taking the motherboard out again.

Those are the same thing, and the reason is probably the mounting issue he mentioned + price

I was hoping it would be a cat because the title seemed deceptive. A bit disappointed. :'( Teehee nice job!

Also, I thought since Sony owns the bluray software (being able to read/write from any bluray drive), you could only use the bluray capabilities if you bought the $90 license from Sony. Does VLC have some workaround?

http://vlc-bluray.whoknowsmy.name/

the 'AACS dynamic library' is some kind of list of movies that are playable with this program. i'm no computer wiz so i can't explain very well but just google-fu 'play blu ray with vlc'

i'm upvoting your build just because of the name (not that i wouldn't if it didn't have that name) +1 also nice build

wasn't really trying to be a smart-***. just sitting there thinking 'uhhhhhh........a name huh? i don't know, ****, it's a computer. i know that much." couldn't think of a catchy name.

maybe i could call it the 'section 9 mainframe'. that would go well with my 'ghost in the shell' theme i always use with computer stuff.
