Description

Edit: I've updated the power supply to an EVGA 1000W Modular 80+Gold. THe wattage is a bit overkill for now but will serve a purpose in the future. Old PSU started showing problems and kept my hardware from shutting off, so i would not recommend it.

This is actually a revised version of my old build. Key differences are the Liquid cooling, graphics card, and the case. Only issue I've had with this build thus far is the Kraken doesn't seem to like the motherboard's cpu fan connection very much. (software pops up with, "cpu fan lost connection/ Kraken fan malfunctioning" messages). To alleviate this I swapped the Kraken connector to one of the other PWM case fan connectors on the motherboard (be sure to change the setting to PWM in the BIOS when setting up) and connected the pre-installed case fan hub to the cpu fan connection (plus one of the case fans to slot 1 on the hub). all in all, the build runs great.

+1 Really clean build, excellent cable management. How was building in the Luxe?

It was great, very clean and roomy. I've seen some reviews complain about the room for cable management, but i disagree wholeheartedly. Even with a non-modular psu, it was a breeze to work in.

a little skeptical about whether or not the i5 will bottleneck the 980, not really too familiar with the extent of the i5's capabilities

one 980 is fine with this particular i5 model. the 4690k supports up to 16 PCI express lanes. if i were to add an additional GPU I would have to upgrade to an i7.

oh ok! well thanks for telling me that, now i know how much an i5 can handle, im not really the best at determining bottlenecking xD

I just bought a Corsair HX750i and I love it. I would definitely go with the HXi series.
