Description

22/12/2017 UPDATE: Is swapped the EVGA GTX 1060 FTW+ for a new MSI GTX 1080 Gaming X. Better performance and balance with the rest of the parts. I have to say this card is a lot quieter than the EVGA one.

I also ejected the BE Quiet Silent Loop 240. This was already my second pump with problems. I was so tired of the pump noise and send it back to Be quiet. Replaced it with a Be Quiet Dark rock 3 For the moment. The result is a dead silent pc but with some degrees more. I hope they will repair my Silent Loop once and for all.

.......................................................................................................................................................................................................................

This is my first build. I will upgrade to a 1080 GTX in the near future. Current stable OC 4.0Ghz @ 1.249V

This build was created October 30, 2016.

After some years on a macbook i decided to switch to a new deskktop PC and wanted to build it myself. The purpose was to have a clean machine for photo editing in the first place. The second purpose was to do some gaming on it. Looking back now I do much more gaming then I first thought I would do so a GPU upgrade will follow soon.

I started the build with a Fractal Design R5. Beginner mistake because I did not need all the room going with only SSD's. That's the reason I switched the case last week to a Fractal Design C windowed version and I just love the case. It's real fun to build in this case and see the end result.

As it was a first build I encountered some problems. The big issue I had was that the motherboard was not recognizing my Samsung 950 pro M2 ssd. after hours of struggling, I finally had to order an adapter and put the ssd in a PCI slot to let it work. It's working fine now but it's kind of a pity I can't use the mobo slot. The advantage is the airflow on the SSD is better and temps never go above 50°C.

I am not a big RGB fan so I decided to add only accent lights. For the moment there are only 2 red rigid strips mounted in the top back en side back of the case I can switch it to one top white led if desired. All strips are from darkside.

The GPU is a GTX 1060. Luckily not affected by all the heating problems. the card does not have a backplate so I made one myself supported by grommets for optimal airflow.

Last week I also had some trouble with the Bequiet Silent loop AIO cooler. the pump started rattling very hard. So I had to switch it in Warranty.

The next step will be the GPU upgrade. Still not thinking between GTX 1070, GTX 1080 or GTX 1080ti.

After all, I am very happy with the end result and in the future, I will definitely build another one.

Have a nice day and enjoy the pics.

PS: The corsair RM750X was fitting without any trouble...

PS: The corsair RM750X was fitting without any trouble...

Thanks for that, I was specifically looking for this information when I saw the compatibility warning in my build.

With some more stunning photos like the one you already took, and a informative and long description, this could definitely become a featured build!

Which fans are intaking and which are exhaust? I plan to have the same setup and I'm curious how you did it.

Yahtadi 1 point 22 months ago

Best light editing photos ive seen in pcpp for awhile

EvansLegacy 1 point 21 months ago

Did your video card come with a backplate? I did some research but couldn't find one with a backplate included. I'm referring to the EVGA 1060.

Harald07 submitter 1 Build 1 point 21 months ago

Hey, this gpu has no backplate. The one you see is homemade.

GamingGlory 1 Build 1 point 21 months ago

Hey, how did you manage to fit e-atx in define C? Just one bit of curiousity, i wanna upgrade to x99 as well with a not too big chasis

Harald07 submitter 1 Build 1 point 21 months ago

It's not E-ATX form factor but MSI X99A SLI ATX mobo.

GamingGlory 1 Build 1 point 21 months ago

But in your opinion will this case fit e atx such as rampage v or maximus ix apex? If it doesn't fit e atx, i might opt for carbide 400c

saq1610 1 point 20 months ago

The define c is already pretty compact to barely fit in an ATX motherboard and a front radiator, E-ATX would definitely have problems and might even interfere with those rubber grommets for cable management.

vcordle 1 point 20 months ago

Nice build! Do you think one of the hybrid (cooler/GPUs) 1080 Ti's will fit into the case, and how about cooling problems. My concern is fitting a two radiators into the smaller sized case.

Harald07 submitter 1 Build 1 point 20 months ago

I don't think a front rad will fit with 1080ti, with front rad you have 28cm for a gpu

vcordle 1 point 20 months ago

Excellent build...impressive components and I like the case. Will this case fit a Hybrid 1080 Ti with radiator? And, do you think Samsung 950 pro M2 ssd issue is a motherboard issue...i.e, will not except M2? How long did it take to put everything together after all of the parts were assmbled? Thank!

Harald07 submitter 1 Build 1 point 20 months ago

I have 28cm room for a GPU when the radiator is mounted in the front. If you mount the radiator on top you have more room for the gpu. The samsung 950 pro is a mobo problem.

progamergay 1 point 19 months ago

This has to be the best looking, most cable managed PC I have seen on this site in 3 years..

Thank you

ThaHirras 1 point 19 months ago

What sound card and DAC is that?

Harald07 submitter 1 Build 1 point 19 months ago

Not a sound card . It's a M2 Adapter card. The dac is aFio E10.

* pats you on the shoulder *

Indeed, some more photos of this lovely build would be nice. Even a paragraph or two for the description, like what like or dislike from their building process.
