Description

I have been using MAC since the first year of my architecture school. However, there are some critical softwares that are only compatible in Window OS. I have used bootcamp whenever I need Window side applications. Mac started slow down and some renderings takes forever. Not to mention that I do multi-tasks such as photoshop, illustrator, revit, autocad, sketchup, and others at the same time. Also I love playing game whenever I got stuck during design process and etc. Therefore, I just decided to build a MONSTER! for Rendering, Gaming, and some other crazy stuff.

As a first time builder it took me way way way way too long to figure out the cables and orientations of the fan and all kinds of stuff. It took me 8 straight hours to finish the build. Then, this PC did not post nothing, FML. I was a typical n00b in computer build and made typical mistake as a n00b. The Memory Sticks DID NOT FULLY CLICKED INTO THE BOARD !!!!!!!! I was just happy that I built a PC and it is working. Let's see if this computer can really satisfy my needs!

I need some comments on what would make this PC better. I am so so used to critics. Be Salty. I can take it.

I will add parts reviews after I actually try this computer with my whole work load.

Part Reviews

CPU

Very fast clock speed. My works are very heavy as it is using 3d modeling programs. This thing will handle it just right. And enough to handle multi tasks.

CPU Cooler

The pure aesthetic and performance master. It has three mode for pumping and fan. (download software CAM) In silent mode CPU temperature was 80 and I changed it to performance mode the temperature dropped to 69 under overclocked rate of 5.0Ghz. The new LED glass is awesome. I love this sexy Kraken.

Motherboard

I have what I need in this feature. Just few more bucks will get you extra features. HD audio is very nice and Wifi is another great feature of this version.

Memory

I got this for 199.00. The rate was 1333 when I installed and I overclocked it with XMP profile to 3200, the maximum rate of the product. Then, it caused problems. Continuously getting BSOD. I raised the voltage for DRAM and it seemed stable. However, eventually, I got BSOD time to time. I do not know what to do. If someone knows how to fix this problem, please tell me. Each time I get Blue screen, the error codes are different.

Storage

I love this SSD. It is super fast and you can tell. I think it is the best among SSD brands.

Video Card

It just goes really well with Asus motherboard. It's GTX 1070. What more can I say? It is more than enough for what I play and work on. NO problem and look pretty good in my case.

Case

I am satisfied with this case. Although the case seems a little small to fit all the wires I have under the storage, That is just because I have bad cable management. I love its minimal design. Aesthetically, nothing beats this thing. Elite and Elegant.

Power Supply

Everything is fine and I bought 750w thinking upgrade in the future. SLI for GPU. However, the sound of the fan just distracts me. You can hear the fan spinning in silent space. Other than that it is good.

Keyboard

Nice compact feeling soft keyboard Cherry MX Red

Mouse

M65 and K65 just goes together really well. The design is so nice.

Please, please, please, tell me you pulled the plastic off of the tempered glass side panel!

Aside form that, nice build. +1

looks very good! 1+!

nadany722 submitter 1 Build 1 point 7 months ago

Thank you :)

I see a refection of a Logitech Membrane Keyboard. At least get a half mechanical or one of those knockoff Cherry MX keyboards. Otherwise everything looks great, even better then my PC

nadany722 submitter 1 Build 1 point 7 months ago

I am planning on buying keyboard but I am not going to buy some fancy gaming keyboard. I mainly use computer to work on my architecture projects. That is why I have such a basic accessories. But it definitely kills the vibe here :(

cmn65 3 Builds 2 points 7 months ago

You can pick up a decent mechanical keyboard for less than $80.

RaspberryPiFan 8 Builds 1 point 7 months ago

Not everyone likes mechanical keyboards.

cmn65 3 Builds 1 point 7 months ago

I like the keys the Macbook Pro has. The keys make a nice click noise, but it is not super load, and the keys are low profile, because I am a little bit of a lazy typer I like to slide my fingers across the keyboard rather than picking them up... :)

Although, I did end up getting a mechanical logitech RGB one for Christmas so I am not going to just not make good use of it! :P

Mechanical boards are fun to mess with. Expensive, yet fun. Similar to PC building as a whole.

What are you using for wifi?

nadany722 submitter 1 Build 1 point 7 months ago

In my understanding of your question, you are asking what device I use to receive wifi signals, right? As you can see in one of images up there, there is a device that receive wifi and bluetooth. The device comes with the Asus z270e motherboard. It is really nice actually.

x3thelast 2 Builds 1 point 7 months ago

AH! I see it now, sucks the mATX ASUS ROG board is like $200 with the included WIFI card. I guess I can justify it if I subtract the price of my current WIFI card ($56) to the total price of the MOBO. :D

Hey man nice build! I have the same board, case, and gpu. I was wondering is your strix sagging a bit? Mine is and I don't know what to do about it!

nadany722 submitter 1 Build 1 point 7 months ago

I don't know about if strix is sagging. It seems alright so far. However, I am going through DRAM issues. I overclocked CPU to 5GHz using XMP profile. Also I overclocked Memory card using XMP profile to fully utilize memory cards to 3200. Then my PC goes into Blue Screen Of Dead. It seems that my DRAM is causing the problem, not my GPU nor motherboard. What is your issue exactly? In my case, I up the voltage for DRAM and the BSOD is gone so far.

abs19stein 1 Build 1 point 7 months ago

So far my system is running very smooth, I will upload hopefully as soon as I get some of my last finishing touches done. Just so you know I had G skill ripjaws also and I was not able to get a boot screen, turns out the memory i got was DOA. Not a fan of G skill ripjaws edition in my opinion. Now my only issue is the GPU sagging a bit!

Fiorentini 1 Build 1 point 7 months ago

"Sagging" as in physically drooping? I'd suggest either a black stick of some kind to prop it up, or using Kevlar thread: that stuff is so thin it's practically invisible.

Fiorentini 1 Build 1 point 7 months ago

Holy ****, 1TB of SSD? Daaamn... nice build!

nadany722 submitter 1 Build 1 point 7 months ago

Thank you :) You know what? I already have used 110gb of the storage. 1TB isn't that big. I work on lots of rendering stuff and they eat up the space really quick. And the architectural softwares are taking up 10gb each. while I have 1TB of HDD. I just don't use them until I run out of SSD storage.

Should have gotten ryzen

uberlizard 1 Build 2 points 7 months ago

god it kills me when ppl say "should have gotten ryzen" or the equivalent. ppl think their choices through.

XFacility 2 points 7 months ago

Ryzen isn't a good option to get for now, it isn't really good for gaming and isn't fully optimised yet...

nadany722 submitter 1 Build 1 point 7 months ago

It seemed that ryzen is in about the same level of i7-7700k. Is there any feature that ryzen is superior to i7-7700k?

Academically_Dishonest 1 Build 3 points 7 months ago

Well Ryzen should be superior to the 7700k in multi threaded applications, however in gaming it falls behind to the 7700k due to the 7700k's faster clock speeds.

The 7700k isn't a bad choice here, Ryzen will have some issues for the next few months as all the bugs are fixed and is optimized.

Overall CPU choice is a preference and there's nothing wrong with you getting the 7700k.

Finlay_Massie 2 points 7 months ago

what if i got an i5 7600k, i'm a little annoyed that i have to wait even longer to see the ryzen chips i can actually afford and i'm getting impatient

nadany722 submitter 1 Build 1 point 7 months ago

Maybe I haven't researched much before deciding parts. I thought high clock speed would reduce the time of rendering.

Dizzlepop12 5 Builds 2 points 7 months ago

With your multi-threaded tasks (Architectural Rendering), Ryzen will kick the 7700K's arse. With you're gaming, however, Ryzen will fall short a bit. The 7700K isn't a bad choice right now, though.

Seems to be a problem with Asus and MSI boards primarily...

It seems that Gigabyte and AsRock boards are holding up extremely well, though.

nadany722 submitter 1 Build 1 point 7 months ago

What is V8?
