Description

I bought the monitor and built this PC for my little brother. He plays the video games with it.

The parts are pretty standard. Got everything when prices were rock bottom in Q4 2014.

This is probably my favourite build I have done. It all starts with the Phanteks Enthoo Pro. The case is not the sexiest or the best build quality, but it is the most well designed case for enthusiast standard parts I have ever used. And at $50 less than any Corsair full tower it is a clear winner.

This build really has no weak points and has excellent value/cost. I would build it again with the exact same parts in a heartbeat.

PS- The keyboard and mouse are absolute garbage though.

One Year Review: Coming Soon

Part Reviews

Storage

Excellent price/performance for its time. Get one when they go on sale or get a newer model.

Case

I love this case. Phanteks really shows they know what they're doing. From including a hardware box with lots of extras, to the fan hub and velcro straps. This case has it all.

Monitor

BenQ is the way to go. Could be brighter, but would never consider buying anything else unless the price was EVEN with this one.

Keyboard

Garbage keys that feel like melting plastic and are very difficult to read. Weak features. Microsoft keys are cheaper and made of higher quality materials.

Mouse

Not great. Died after 1 year. Was okay until then.

Headphones

Excellent quality cans. Mic is not that great and is a little gainy, but the phones themselves are moving towards professional monitor quality. Good for the price ($65). HyperX Cloud is still the way to go though. Buy only if on sale.

UPS

Pretty standard stuff here.

Why isn't the CPU cooler mounted upright D:

vordar 1 Build 2 points 28 months ago

Probably has to do with the lack of bending in the tubes to the radiator.

You are correct. Im going to see if I can rotate it when I replace the thermal paste.

Did the name happen to be based off the book 'Black Beauty'?

SpeshBun submitter 3 Builds 3 points 28 months ago

It is certainly an allusion to it.

Aside from dust the whole case, inside and out, seems to swallow the light. I'm pretty proud of it.

Zenoaxs 2 points 28 months ago

Dust? Get cans of compressed air and spray away, brushes work pretty good and so do Q-tips.

Canned air is good idea. I use a blow-dryer on my rig. Heat turned off of course xD

Zenoaxs 2 points 28 months ago

Oh thank God. When I first read "I use a blow-dryer..." I freaked out. Do you put the blow dryer's fan speed to the lowest or highest?

It's maxed. It's weak though

Hows that rig handling 1440p gaming?

SpeshBun submitter 3 Builds 2 points 28 months ago

It's doing pretty well. It will dip down to 28 fps in Witcher at max settings.
