I needed something cheap to make my wife's life easier with nursing school. Hollered at a buddy and he suggested this newegg combo. I think it was $343 without OS.
This was my first "build" I think the most challenging part was the cable management. That photo was before I tidied all the wires up. My last home PC was over ten years old and really showing it's age. I was also running Ubuntu on the old PC and my wife just wouldn't give it a solid chance. This thing is just amazing compared to it. Matter of fact, it's the fastest PC I've used since I bought the last one ten years ago. I don't get why my employer can't buy some cheap ones like this and use these things at work. Windows 8.1 is a breeze.
I was worried about the motherboard being DOA after reading all the reviews, but against my unlucky odds, it worked like a charm. I will say that if you buy the newegg combo, you will need to purchase a splitter for the system fan. This motherboard only has one connector for SYS fan. I ended up just running all three case fans off the power supply as I had some extra adapters from an r/c project.
Update: I got a 260x for free from a friend and threw a hyper 212 on the processor for fun.
