Description

This build was a culmination of 2 years of planning, lurking, theorycrafting, and lusting. As a father of a 2 year old and a husband to a wife with MS, finding the funds to put together a custom computer instead of paying your custom medical bills was a pipe dream. Thanks to my wife's support and a new promotion at work, I finally made it happen! To anyone else who thinks its unfair that the "pcmasterrace" and "personal finance" subreddits sit next to each other on their frontpage...this one is for you.

NOTE: This computer is overkill for me, but I tend to ride my technology into the obsolescence horizon, so LETS DO THIS

Part Reviews

Motherboard

This was such a breeze for a first time builder. Its GORGEOUS, everything is labeled on the PCB or underneath the pins so there was little confusion when building, and it has all the bells and whistles I could ever need.

Storage

10 second boot time from power button to login. I found this very affordable for the boot drive and some choice games. There were no additional drivers, so this was really plug and play.

Video Card

I'm still shaking that i spent 400 on a GPU. I mean, as a first time builder switching from Mac, I don't have a lot to compare this to. I've maxed my setting in both WoW and LoL and everything is gravy. So thiccccccc it sags a little.

Case

This was easily the best purchase of my build. All the conveniences of grommets, labeled cables, pre-cable managed, AND it sooooooo sexy. The magnetic led strip was icing on the cake for me.

Power Supply

Quality experience start to finish. From the packaging to actually installing it, this is worth the stars.

It's been a long time since the words AMD and Acension were used in the same sentence.

Long live FX tho.

I love this build and it's setup. It's beautiful. Well done with this! You have my one.

~slow clap~ You should also get an HDD too, even 1TB will be good, a 265GB M.2 SSD can fill up fast! I'd recommend a WD BLACK 1TB. +1

I pinched all the pennies to get everything I wanted...but not what I needed. WoW and Titan fall just filled up half my drive lol

Lmaoooo yeah WoW is a massive game. Most people will just have the essentials on their SSD and everything else on HDD, it's more cost efficient

What happen to the second ram stick?

madadam submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

It was DOA so I had to do an advance RMA request through Newegg. They send me a new kit first, then I sent the original kit back.

Nice build! I just ordered the same case, and was curious if the Gigabyte RGB Fusion works with the case/RGB strip lights? They have ASUS and MSI listed as supported RGB software on the Phanteks website, but I couldn't find info about Gigabyte. Thanks!

madadam submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

If it does I have not found that. It controls my mobo, gpu, and wraith cooler, but not the case lights/led strip

garylrudolph 1 point 8 months ago

Thanks for the info! That's interesting that it controls the GPU since it's ASUS.

madadam submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

jk, you're right, I use a different software for that

What's the RAM?

madadam submitter 1 Build 1 point 7 months ago

Camranatic101 2 Builds 1 point 7 months ago

mmmmmmmm boi that GPU sag

madadam submitter 1 Build 1 point 7 months ago

adding the GPU bracket really helped. should get some updated pictures in there after I install the new fans.

Love the build and I'm looking at something very similar. I noticed you are air cooling. Are you overclocking at all? If so I would love to know how it's going with your cooler? I was going to water cool my CPU (Ryzen 5 1600x) but if I could get away with air, it would be cheaper. I am in the Father/husband scenario, with a new house payment. Congrats on the build, it looks GREAT! can't wait to join the club!

madadam submitter 1 Build 1 point 2 months ago

The only overclocking i did was the "easy overclock" button. To be honest the stock cooler would have been fine, but I love large air coolers and have upgraded to the H5 Universal which i think is about $50. Let me know if you have any questions!
