Description

This is an old gateway dx4300 from 2009. runs on an old Phenom 2 quad core and 6GB of DDR2 ram. Yes you read that right. To make it a little snappier a 240GB SSD was added as a boot drive. To bring this fossil into the modern age, without having to upgrade the power supply, I replaced the old radeon 5450 with a GTX 950 that was sitting and collecting dust. It was conveniently colored white to match the arctic fans that are installed for the CPU cooler and Exhaust fan. Though it does not provide any functionality at all I included a blue LED 120 static pressure fan in front of the GPU even though there is only a small 0.5" gap at the bottom of the front of the case to provide any kind of front intake.

09 eh? Thats older than some of the people on PCPP, good for you for still using this beast of a machine +1 for cable managing in what looks like an OEM case from 09.

What kind of performance do you get on this once-great relic?

haha honestly I didnt bother trying to benchmark it. prior to this one upgrade we couldnt get CS-GO or Fortnite to run on the radeon 5450. Those were the two he wanted. Couldnt get him into LOL which it obviously easily runs.

I love it. The first truly home built gaming PC I ever put together had a Phenom II 970 Black Edition and an HD 7850, this is bringing back some sweet memories. +1 for the nostalgia.

What more modern games have you tried running through it to find it’s max? Nice recycling job with the parts. Some of the older PCs can still kick it.

haha I was trying to find a way to spice it up and going from the the radeon 5450 to the 980 it was not going to fit.
