CPU AMD Ryzen 5 3600 3.6 GHz 6-Core Processor

  • Had to update motherboard bios with a previous gen chip first

CPU Cooler Noctua NH-C12P SE14 64.95 CFM CPU Cooler

  • Taken from old SG07 build
  • Flipped to exhaust, brought prime 95 temps from 69C to 65C (standard settings)
  • When used as top down, makes no significant difference due to proximity to 180mm case fan (intake)
  • Be quiet dark rock tf (should fit as has very similar dimensions to NH-C14, may not have to remove HDD cage as it's shorter) or shadow rock tf 2 (does not fit due to cpu block placement is not centered) could be used instead
  • NH-C14 will also fit (required HDD cage to be removed) unsure about the NH-C14S

Motherboard MSI B450I GAMING PLUS AC Mini ITX AM4 Motherboard

  • Had to update motherboard bios with a previous gen chip first
  • Chose over Asus b450-i due to price and no LEDs

Memory Crucial Ballistix Sport LT 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory

  • Overclocked to 3466 CL14 using DRAM Calculator for ryzen timings.
  • Voltage set to 1.46v (1.44v in HWMonitor and bios monitor) in bios (otherwise wouldn't reliably boot)

Storage Intel 660p Series 1.02 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive

  • Doesn't seem to get too hot despite mounted underneath motherboard

Video Card Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER 8 GB WINDFORCE OC Video Card

  • 5700XT was first choice but lack of stock or too high of a premium (many are also too tall for SG08 bumping into power socket)
  • Card reaches 65C in furmark at 50% fan speed (1550rpm)
  • SG08 max card width is 51-52mm (some 51mm cards will fit touching the side panel)
  • Too close to side panel causes turbulence noises
  • Windforce OC was chose over Gaming OC due to Gaming OC being 50mm (~1cm wide

Case Silverstone SG08B-LITE Mini ITX Desktop Case

  • Bought refurbished
  • 180mm AP181 fan was taken from old SG07. AP183 is newer and higher airflow but technical specs suggests louder at lowest rpm
  • Fan speed determined by CPU temp
  • Fan was flipped to exhaust and fan filter removed (improved temps by ~5C)
  • Vinyl carbon fibre placed over fan motor for aesthetics
  • Cables can be routed along side support bars of case
  • Some plastic from fan shroud was removed to allow space for routed cables

Power Supply Corsair CX (2017) 550 W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply

  • SG08 right angle power cable had to be swapped with left angle cable from old SG07 (left angle can also be purchased from ali express "c13 to c14 cable")
  • ATX PSU must be non modular and max 140mm long
  • If socket on PSU was more in centre of PSU or was flipped vertically, original SG08 cable could be used

Custom Noctua NM-AM4 Mounting Kit for AMD Socket AM4 (Ryzen)

  • Required for C12P on AM4

Heat

  • After some testing the best set up seems to be having the case and cpu fan flipped so hot air is exhausted out the top of the case. Flipping doesn't make much difference 1-2C for the CPU but GPU temp is much better when those 2 fans are on exhaust ~ 8C

Update

  • CPU cooler was changed to a Noctua NH-C14
  • required HDD cage to be removed but allows more space for excess cables
  • SSD was attached with double sided tape
  • C14 top fan cannot be installed, a slim fan might fit
  • temperature difference is minimal between C12 and C14

Negative pressure doesn't help thermals as much. It could be better if you moved to a lower profile cooler and switched to positive pressure on both cooler and intake fans since the 3600 is only a 65W part.

Negative pressure could also suck in dust, making the dust filter where the intake fan is kinda not doing it's purpose.

I'd switch to a lower profile cooler and switch the system to a positive pressure setup. If necessary, also go for a blower style 2070 Super like an ASUS Turbo.

That may be due to the excess heat from the GPU being dumped into the case. In a Sugo, a blower style GPU would make more sense vs an open faced card.

Great build, thanks! But are you sure that the be quiet! Dark Rock TF and/or Shadow Rock TF fit? According to the specs, they don't. Since I did not find a proper replacement for the discontinued Noctua NH-C12P I went for the smaller Noctua NH-L12S.

I went and bought a NH-C14 it also fits but you'll need to remove the HDD cage. and if you want a top fan you'll probably want a slim fan. At the moment I just have a single 14mm mounted underneath. There's also the slightly newer (but still old) NH-C14S, I think it's off set on both the x and y axis whereas the non S is only offset on one. It may fit, it may not.

Dark Rock TF and Shadow Rock tf is just a guess that it would fit. Which spec are you referring to that doesn't fit? Height should be fine but you may need to leave the top fan off.

A lot of it comes down to the placement of the CPU socket on the board. The C14 is 166mm long. It almost fits except the ends of the heat pipes will bump into the HDD cage. Width is 140mm for both dark rock tf and C14. dark rock tf is 130.8mm and C14 is 130mm height. Both with the top fan If the cpu block is in the same place as the C14, then it should fit. I am building a same build, upgrading from a 1 year old build which had the same power supply, do you see any problems with the power supply, any shutdowns, bottlenecks ?
