Update 3/4/2016 Added a video check it out https://youtu.be/wcRvekCY0bA

update 5/30/2015
Added a GTX 970 overclocked GPU clock 1642, Mem Clock 3805. 3D Mark Fire Strike the system scored 8352 while running this test the GPU hit 70°C and CPU hit 64°C Haven: FPS 60.5, Score 1523, temp 72°C, min 28.2FPS, Max 130.2FPS benchmark using resident evil 6 https://youtu.be/efaMDUgQl3c ((all results with a 1920x1080 60hrz monitor)). pictures in top

i had a spare Alienware Aurora 7500 sitting around collecting dust (didn't work) and i couldn't decide what to do.

When i saw micro center had a sale on the G3258 and the MSI Z97 PC Mate i jumped (for under $100) i was excited to start. i picked up a WD blue drive for $45 Corsair Vengeance memory for $50. i had a system to tinker with for under $200.

I slowly bought some parts that i wanted like an after market cooler, a GPU, and my best deal was my SSD for $50. now my system was up to about $400 and its something to check out.

on 3D Mark Fire Strike the system scored 4442 ( http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/4782053? )

on 3D Mark Fire Strike OverClock Scored 5176 ( http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/4792720? ) i will say with that score my computer was running stuff in the background and still didn't go over 47°C and if overclocked could get much higher.

Some parts have been added after review i will edit page.

Video Card

I bought this video card for under MSRP from Dell. i was a little sceptical because it was from a company i don't know much about. when i got the card i noticed it was only reg 3.5GB of video ram i was little concerned then after a little research i found out that the 970s have the same problem across the board. after breaking in the card i thought lets see what i can get out of her. after a little bit of back and forth i got the card overclocked to 1642MHz on the GPU and 3805MHz on the memory. i was happy. the only thing holding me back now is my CPU... im going to get you 4790.

what can i say i got it for $15 it does what it does at 720P and its small but hey it works well.

Great little speakers. Very loud and clear. they are very directional so if they are not ear level you wont get the best quality but from what i have experienced they are worth every penny

What is the attraction with Gigabyte, am I the only one who has had bad experiences with them? I have faulty tech from other companies, but Gigabyte customer service was ****.

Dacj610 submitter 1 Build 1 point 41 months ago

to be honest i wanted a msi that was going to be ten dollars more but for a $160 card i got for $130 im happy keep in mind i had a budget of under $500 and i pieced it out over two months. and so far (knock on wood) its worked well.

I love MSi, worked with laptops, mobo, GPUs and never been disappointed

I may be 13 months late, but I share your opinion. F*** Gigabyte.

Matthew3773 2 points 41 months ago

How did you manage to overclock the memory so much? In my experience all I ever achieved was 2800 Mhz.

Dacj610 submitter 1 Build 2 points 33 months ago

i used after burner and i turned off the "over voltage protection" i wouldn't suggest it because it dramatically shortens the life of the card. i just did it to try it out i run the card at stock speeds and its more then enough for what i need but it was nice to see those numbers. im surprised that PNY was able to do that i guess they are (to me at least) the underdog that could

what card are you using?

This is pretty awesome, but that PSU is just waiting to fail completely and fry it all... Perhaps hold off on the CPU update, and do the safe thing and get a Seasonic, XFX or Antec PSU? Im waiting for black friday to buy anything more myself :)

Dacj610 submitter 1 Build 1 point 32 months ago

Dacj610 submitter 1 Build 1 point 26 months ago

$2k build and only 8GB Ram? You had tons of unnecessary parts and only managed DDR3-1600 8GB memory, not a good choice at all> You don't need 4 TB space and over 500 GB SSD space, waste of money on this computer. Also, for almost $350, you could have gotten a WAY better graphics card, again, bad choice.

Dacj610 submitter 1 Build 1 point 13 months ago

what system are you looking at? I have 256gb of SSD and it's for a boot drive, the old 240gb SSD was for game storage that is actually in my laptop now. as for using the 4tb of storage, I stream gaming videos and store them locally, so I do use a lot of storage. as for the gtx 970 at the time it was the best card for the price and I was happy with the purchase and still am. about the ram sorry but I haven't updated that its actually 16gb and you know no one really needs more than 8gb. maybe if you are doing video work or something similar. it seems like your trying to troll me or something it seems like you don't have any constructive criticism. I'm sorry you wasted your time typing your comment. what do you have as a system?

Dacj610 submitter 1 Build 1 point 13 months ago

here I have updated a few things for you. I hope you enjoy. I will say that this build started as a cheap little put together that slowly grew over the months. I hope you enjoyed my build.

Dacj610 submitter 1 Build 1 point 13 months ago

did you see my speed build https://youtu.be/wcRvekCY0bA

ePiCPanCake69 1 point 13 months ago

Sorry man, i was in a bad mood and was being negative lol, good build :), although I do think the ram could ahev been upped. Have a good day :)

Dacj610 submitter 1 Build 1 point 13 months ago

what kind of ram would you have suggested.

ePiCPanCake69 1 point 12 months ago

16GB is a good mark for a build like this. Unless you stream vids a lot maybe 24GB-32GB. DDR4 for this pricepoint I would say.

Dacj610 submitter 1 Build 1 point 12 months ago

wouldn't be able to run DDR 4 in this system it wouldn't support it.
