Description

Had been planning this build for almost 6 months, but finally started buying parts on Black Friday. I was going back and fourth on whether I could afford to build the machine I wanted, but then I got a job that let me get some awesome deals on the hardware. The best of which was the processor which I got through Intel Retail Edge for about $225 CDN after shipping, taxes and duty. The rest of the parts were picked up on Black Friday and Boxing Day sales.

Part Reviews

CPU

Very happy. Nothing to exciting about it... but it has all the power I could need for the foreseeable future.

CPU Cooler

Kinda compromised on this part. Would have rather gotten the Kraken X61 but it was too expensive and came with no real performance boost. Installation was actually fairly easy. Just make sure to install the back plate before putting the motherboard in the case.

Motherboard

I love this motherboard... but the I/O Shield is a piece of garbage. I would have given it 5-stars if the I/O Shield wasn't so flimsy. It was actually decently difficult to get it to slide into place properly.

Memory

Nice RAM. Great looking heat spreaders with brushed aluminium.

Storage

If it weren't for the ugly sticker this would get 5-stars. Great drive but that blue sticker on the front makes it look cheap. I just scrapped mine off though.

Video Card

Such a great GPU. Getting a solid 60 fps on BF1 and Witcher 3 at ultra. Plus the Aura RGB is a very cool addition to the case. My only complaint would be that it is insanely long.

Case

Tempered glass... enough said. Such a nice case. At this price point can't think of anything better.

Power Supply

It does the job but it is obviously a cost saving measure in my build. The cables are cheap crap. Would not recomend

Wireless Network Adapter

Didn't even need to install a driver to connect to my WiFi. Very happy.

Pizza cat is awesome.... I have been using the crucial mx300 series ssd for awhile and love it, great choice.

Nice build man...curious how did you load OS with no optical drive space in case? Plugged into MOBO, loaded and then removed?

mikeypc 2 points 26 months ago

He most likely installed it from a USB drive

EB_Capital 1 point 26 months ago

Awesome, helpful. Can you then download all drivers for motherboard and other pieces just online?

DrPat submitter 1 Build 1 point 26 months ago

USB. When you download windows it gives you the option to just do it via USB. It's way faster than doing it by optical too.

that's what i did. the only one that i can think of that could be problematic is if you have to download some driver to get online... other than that you should be fine.

lol bro I look at the spec list and I saw that the i7 cost $223 and I was about to kick my pc down the stairs because I just bought a i5 for the same price. It fixed it self when I clicked on it tho

DrPat submitter 1 Build 1 point 26 months ago

Lol I actually did pay that! I got it through Intel Retail Edge. Hell of a deal!

How can I do this intel retail edge program

DrPat submitter 1 Build 1 point 26 months ago

You have to work at a retailer that supports the program i believe. For me that was Best Buy.

herio 0 points 26 months ago

yeah i found out. i lied and said i was in best buy

DrPat submitter 1 Build 1 point 26 months ago

you actually need a pay stub to get confirmed... you can do all the learning without it, but can't actually buy anything without confirmation
