After running an E8500 based system for nearly 6 years I wanted to future proof while also keeping the system clean, powerful, and compact. Gaming is the primary use, but will perform some light media editing.
Few things to call out:
CPU Cooler: Customized LED colors on the pump. One thing to look out for: make sure your fans are compatible. I bought some SP120 fans with the color rings to add some more color to the inside and go push/pull, but didn't know that you need the PWM version to get fan control in Corsair Link. Right now those fans will only run at a constant 2000 RPM which is a tad loud for me. I will re-purpose those fans and get the PWM versions to push/pull with the H100i's included fans.
Update: PWM fans arrived. As said before, they respond to the Corsair Link software.
Motherboard: There are few mATX options for X99 at the moment. There were no real problems with the connector locations on this board/case combination which is much appreciated. The USB3.0 header doesn't have strong retention so it would come a little loose when doing cable management.
Case: Corsair Air 240. I bought this case primarily because it can stand on 3 different sides. Most cases have their window on the left side (if looking straight at it), which for my desk set up would mean the window is facing a wall. With this case you can orient the window to either left, right, or up.
2 Year Update: Only change to the system has been upgrade to 16gb ram. Completely rock solid. Added Steelseries Sensei which has been good, but doesn't cooperate fully when I put the computer to sleep and try to wake up again.
