Description

This isn't an all at once build, this is just the current version of a build I put together in 2014 and have gradually made various changes and additions to over the last two years.

I use my PC for...well for everything. Gaming, recording/streaming gameplay, writing professionally, budgeting, multimedia/home theater, etc. As such, it has a bunch of stuff that doesn't generally cater to certain crowds. It's too big and bulky to be a normal HTPC, it's way too powerful for what anyone needs for writing, and it has far more storage than most gamers would bother putting into a gaming machine.

But it does what I need. I can listen to every song and watch almost every movie I own from my drives without having to grab any discs from the shelves, over 3,000 games are installed so I don't have to wait to download something if a friend wants to play something I haven't touched in months (You can find me on Steam, Uplay, Origin, YouTube, etc. under the same handle as here), I can play just about any game out there without needing to fuss over settings, and when I need to get some writing done I have a nice sized, sharp screen with plenty of workspace for my project and whatever notes I need on screen.

If I'm not training, or with my family, you can find me cosied up to The Second Wife.

That's alot of storage.

Lots of movies, TV shows, and anime along with my entire Steam, Uplay, Origin, Gog, etc. libraries installed. Really don't like waiting to download something when I'm ready to experience it.

With a 5k budget I probably would've bought a LGA1151 mobo and cpu.

If I'm thinking correctly, LGA1151 is Skylake? If so, that launched at the end of 2015. This build was first put together in January of 2014 and revised from there.

+1 for an awesome name and a great list of parts. But mayhaps we have more pics of the PC itself, some inside shots?

  • 3 points

Yeah :( I need to. I started to add inside shots then realized all the ones I took were when I first built the machine with 8GB of GSkill memory, a GTX 780 Ti, and a GTX 460 for PhysX. I need to take some current shots.

Ahh, gotcha. It's a constant update! I'm learning that even still on my fairly fresh first build and already done a few major upgrades.

It's a constant struggle. I always say I'm done for a while, then two-three months down the road there I am adding/changing something again. It's never finished!

Always! Also please tell me that I'm not mistaken in seeing your avatar as a Baki character... Yuujiro Hanma? If so, that's amazing and +1000 for that.

Welcome to the PC master race! This happens to me all they time. I say I'm done, then I upgrade and I'm like dang got suckered again!

  • 2 points

Yeah. I said I was done after the GTX 980 Ti's came out...then came more storage...then more memory...then a 1440p G-sync monitor...then a new wireless mouse...

Holy storage, Batman!

I'm glad you opted for "one PC to rule them all" rather than a gaming rig, streaming rig, editing rig, etc...

How do you handle backups? Because I wouldn't be able to sleep at night with that much storage in one place without knowing it was copied somewhere.

All I backup are media, work files, and game saves on external drives. I don't backup actual games which takes up the majority of the space.

Makes sense. I'm a very light-weight storage user... everything I have worth holding on to is on a free cloud drive. As a matter of fact, I built a machine this summer with a 256GB SSD, and I still have over 100GB free.

Awesome build, I love my MyCloud. I just save movies on there and stream them from my PC or laptop. Also the dual 1080ti's is insane! +1

I am looking at the same case, I have a Noctua D14... I don't see on PCPP anyone with the D14 and the door closed on a Thor V2. Can you close the side door with it in there?

  • 2 points

Absolutely, mine is actually closed any time I'm not cleaning or taking pictures. Mostly likely, no one takes pictures with the door closed because the mesh keeps you from seeing the inside components. Here's an old shot from another angle that might make it easier to see that there's clearance.

Who are you in the video?!?!?!?! Also that is a lot of storage, just like others said. Also would recommend a wired Xbox controller or the newer PS4 and Xbox One Slim controller since the wireless receiver has issues once in awhile.

If you're talking about the martial arts video(s) on my YouTube page I'm the one demonstrating/talking. I do have a PS4 and use the controller on some games with native support (or DS4Windows if not).

That video is really good! Also if you have carpet and the PC is on the ground I'd make sure to place something underneath or put it in a separate table to avoid dust.

What are the temperatures on GPUs?

  • 1 point

I'm currently idling at 39C. Under load during standard AAA gameplay (something taxing like Wildlands, The Division, etc.) I hover in the 60's to mid 70's after hours of play. Stress testing I can push into the low 80's if I keep the GPUs under 100% load for an extended period of time.

This is all with the standard automatic fan controls. I haven't made a custom curve because the temps/noise have been acceptable to me on default.
