Description

Started out wanting to simply move over parts over from my hackintosh build i did around 2013 & ended up making several upgrades

Case:

Fell in love with the Lian Li PC-08 after getting my first glimpse of it via the hardwarecanucks youtube channel, but couldnt justify the purchase due to price and sat on it for a few weeks before finally deciding that the case was more important than my financial health.

Yes, there are several design flaws that are well documented but this thing is flat out gorgeous imo and im happy i made the plunge everytime i sit down at my desk. All of lian li negligence gives the case character ! the glass if half full !

..cries self to sleep thinking about $400 worth of food..

Build Background:

Im sure were all in the same boat with the self gratification of completing a build and this has honestly been alot of fun, made alot of purchases and probably returned more but im happy with my final outcome. Did alot of thinking about upgrading to skylake but figured the performance gains wouldnt be worth the cost, also GPU was a tough decision which i still may turn around on (for a 980ti) but the g1 970 is working fine on my apple monitor, im sure some titles are getting sub 60 fps but its honestly hasnt bothered much if any on far cry primal or the division (latest games im playing)

Annoying:

*the drive cage in the back of the case.

*gaming 7 only has one usb 3.0 header on the board.

*Neweggs return policy.

*Corsair doesnt make a type 4 24pin sleeved connector.

Future plans:

Been lurking this site for years and will probably start piecing together the parts for my first attempt at a custom loop, lots of inspiration on this site.

Also in the market for a nice bluetooth headset, a solution for the gym and my computer would be amazing, i know ppl say bluetooth audio isnt all that great but im no audiophile, i would just prefer the convenience.

Lastly i would like to formally open the doors to the very exclusive "my chassies cost more than my gpu" master race.

Welp. I'd like to say something really nice, but drool seems to be all over my keyboard.

This thing is absolutely awesome.

+1

- Geekazoid, add it to the list XD

EDIT:

I've decided to make a new thing called 'rhali8's Special Builds List, where I hand pick builds that I love and add them to a list. You are the first to be added! (The list is on my profile page) Congrats dude!

Great build, but why a $298 mouse?? and those sunglasses or OG

It is all in your profile picture. Let me explain.

2+9+8 = 19

1+9 = 10

10 rhymes with Ben.

Ben is a Jedi.

Jedi has 4 letters.

Letters has 6 letters.

6/2 = 3

His mouse is Illuminati Confirmed!

Are the panels actual glass or are they just plastic/Plexiglas?

  • 1 point

Actual glass.

That is awesome! I would just be worried about breaking it, but i would figure that its tempered or something of that nature.

I'd like to suggest routing the gpu power cables up and over the card to help against the gpu sag. Possibly even over the radiator tubes?

  • 1 point

Appreciate the suggestion , will check out over the card, not sure about over the radiator tubes tho but I agree I always see ppl builds with them tucked under but the grommets are at weird angle going under

Worth a shot. Also, noticed your backplate is bent at the end there.

whoa I never noticed that, will investigate when I get home

Seems odd that the intake fans are over the components that don't really need the active air passthrough. One would think that the left chamber with the GPU would take priority. Beautiful build and obviously style is through the roof, just wondering as to why no intakes on the hottest chamber in the case (not that you can control that).

  • 1 point

yea, a lot of ppl have mentioned this, I don't have any solid temp numbers for you but the case never runs hot even with all fans set to quiet mode (gigabyte app center software)

  • 1 point

My 390x certainly would heat it up real quick. To be fair my wife's rig has a 970 in it and the card runs cool and quiet in general. Still a wonderful build just something I was musing about.

I like the build but the only thing I don't like is how the led strip is facing outwards - it is kinda distracting; if it were me, I would point the light at the hardware

  • 1 point

gone back and forth with this a million times, the led are honestly losing their stick, will probably pull them out, I had them hidden originally and they kept falling

  • 1 point

This is a very nice build but my only real question is why in the world would you remove all the cooling from the side of the case that generates the most heat and need more cooling and fresh air for the radiators and reallocate fans to the side that really doesnt need that much cooling??

  • 1 point

lol me or lian li ?

  • 1 point

Nice build! I was wondering if you can change the color of the LED on the GPU. I'd like to purchase it but only if I can make it match my color scheme.

  • 1 point

thanks a lot ! no you cant with software unfortunately, ive seen people do physical mods to the led which look easy enough tho

Hi, I recently bought the same case! And it looks awesome! But when I started building my PC I got stuck installing the Corsair H100i V2 above the motherboard. It is a really tight fit and the screws don't seem to match my CPU Cooler.

Would you be so kind to explain to me how you got this to work? It would really help me out a lot and I will finaly be able to finish my build.

Cheers
