Description

First off, I am a college student, so a workstation is a must. I originally had a laptop and one day i had software issues and i assumed that it was broken. Then I began looking into building a desktop with the money I wanted to use to replace my laptop. Long story short, 3 days after my computer had issues a friend of mine fixed it for me, but by then I had already bought the gtx 980 gpu XD and the i5 4690k. I could have returned them, but I didnt want to drive back to Micro Center.

I took me about two months to get all of the parts and was exited when i could actually build it all. Sorry for the lack of pictures and the orientation of some of the pictures. I wanted to take alot but i got carried away with building.

The only games I usually play is DotA and some emulated games but i am looking into playing more. I got Assassin's Creed Unity, but unfortunately there are too many bugs at the moment so ill have to wait to play it.

Reviews: * Cougar Solution - Its tight on space but it does what it needs to do. I only bought it because it was cheap, but ill be upgrading in the near future. It doesnt have a reset button, and the usb port block seems kinda flimsy.

  • i5 - Good, I did alot of research and decided the i5 is more worth the money for what im doing than the i7 and i am also an Intel fanboy lol. My laptop is AMD and does well with playing Modern games but cant keep up with my emulators. So Intel was my choice and now i have the best of both worlds in my opinion.

  • H55 Water cooloer- I didnt like the idea of cpu fan cooling so i got a decent water cooler. Only con so far is that it took forever to attack it.

  • MSI SLI PLUS - I wanted a mobo that could do at least 2-way SLI, hold my type of cpu, and was cheap. Its pretty good and i like the bios.

  • G.Skill 2133 - Pcpartpicker gave me warning not to go over 1800 with RAM but i did anyways and changed the timings in my xmp file in my bios. I have no problems so far.

  • The storage is good so far, ill be getting more soon.

  • MSI GTX 980 Twin frozr - I got it becauase it was the last one in the store... kinda naive on my part but it ended up working in my favor.

  • Fans - No cons, The two jetflows have yet to come. I orderd them from SuperBiz and will not be ordering from there again

Everything else is fine.

I appreciate any comments and suggestions. I am looking into building another desktop soon or at least upgrading my current one definitely, so everything helps

The story of how that computer came to be is funny. Nice build overall! Also, you description says "Only con so far is that it took forever to attack it." and I don't know if that is a typo or if I can't make sense of it. +1

Awesome build, looks a little bit similar to mine in terms of part choice. And I understand how some people may think the I5 is enough, but you really should try the I7, it's worth every penny especially if you're doing workstation tasks. Good setup though.

I believe many colleges offer it to students free of charge.
