Description

Never built a pc before. Man was this a lot of fun.

Wanted to go for "top of the line" and I wanted it to be very sexy. I think I accomplished my goals.

Gaming is the thing I do most, but I didn't want to just build a "gaming pc" that's why I went with a little extra ram and the i7.

Right now I am gaming on a single 1080p, but want to upgrade to a 1440 so bad. Honestly looking for opinions on what to do. Not sure if I should wait for 4k monitors.

I am looking for suggestions on how to make this build even better, like maybe which sleeved extension cables to get, or honestly anything u can think of. I have also been thinking about using some high heat paint on the GPU casings to make them white. What do you guys think? Please be nice.

As for the parts.

Define R4 - couldn't be happier, this case was perfect for me. For anyone wondering about this case, I have had zero problems with cooling or airflow, and adding any fans beyond 2 front intake, 1 back exhaust(I still have the bottom ones in there because they don't make any noise) hasn't changed my temps.

MOBO - This was my biggest concern after I purchased the parts, I was worried I might have gone a little cheap. Now its only been 2 months, but I am so far very happy with ASRock and I don't see why I would have needed a nicer MOBO.

Ram - Could definitely live with just 8GB, one stick arrived bad so I have only been using 1 8gb stick for 2 months. Will get another sometime.

R9 290 - I heard a lot of complaints about this GPU. First off, it performs amazingly. While gaming, I have not ran into any issues except in games where the fps was not locked, and I was getting around 400fps constantly(CS:go). after switching to to 120fps, my card stays quite and cool on the highest settings on any game I play. Now things are a little different when im mining. I also have a old 7850 in my rig, and when I turn both cards on, eventually they do ramp up to almost 100% fan speed, which is INSANELY loud. I mean I can hear this like 3 rooms over. The r9 290 really does sound like a jet engine lol. If anyone is wondering, I get around 775 constant with my 290 and 275 with my 7850. So that's around 1MH/s which I think is pretty good. I have a mk-26 black, 2 white 120mm fans, and some noctua paste waiting to get put on the 290 whenever I stop mining(there isn't enough room with the other card in there).

SSD - I got the biggest one I though I should(money wise) and wish I had gone bigger. ill get another when a good deal hits(hopefully before next black Friday).

Everything else - most of the other parts were overkill. I could have gone with the cooler master hyper 212 evo, but its not as sexy:). The PSU was also overkill, but now I can add another r9 290 without worry. The fractal design fans are all REALLLY quite, so that's was a plus. The only part I had a problem with was the Bluray Drive, which is giving me weird driver unsigned errors in windows. meh I will probly never use it anyways.

My next project is going to be the exact opposite, build a pc for someone who only ever uses the internet browser(my father). Hopefully keep it under 300. Honestly I just want to build something because I am now addicted.

EDIT: lol people are so quick to hate.

ok so the 7850 in there is just for MINING LITECOINS. and it is also from an old computer, so that is why it is not listed. honestly I have been forgetting to even mine lately so I don't even think about it.

THIS COMPUTER IS NEW

as for the dust on the case, I bought all of these parts around black Friday(that's how I got the deals), and I am a little confused by how much dust there has been. my parents are remodeling their kitchen upstairs(don't know if this helps), but seriously the front filter on the case was covered, and the bottom one was clear.

o and I don't have a nice camera or phone, so I have been stealing my parents 5s. Kinda a noob with iphones and I was having problems sending multiple pictures, so this is the only one I had.

EDIT: EDIT: Added a picture of my PS3 BD Remote I just bought because this+Eventghost has seriously changed the way I use my computer. I now always have xbmc, Netflix, or Pandora on my tv screen, full screen but technically minimized, with full control via the remote. So movies on one screen with games on main monitor, with full control of both without alt tabing. I don't even own a PS3.

SERIOUSLY thank you to anyone who didn't immediately call me a troll or hate on me because I didn't post it perfectly. I have now tried to go back and make sure it reflects my build perfectly and has enough pictures.

Why isn't the 7850 in the part list... PICTURES

This build doesn't deserve down votes, it's a great build with a nice parts list for the price.

As far as the 4k monitors you'll probably have to buy another 290 to be able to run games on it from what I've seen. 1440p is great I have the ASUS PB278Q and LOVE it. There's a tiny bit of edge bleed on bf4 but no other games, highly recommend it!

You can also looking into the QNIX OR QSTAR monitors as they are the korean versions and run in the $300-$400 range

Builder doesn't do the required things on here gets the down votes

Hey thanks for the info.

no way im buying another 290 until the prices go down, but they might by the time 4k monitor prices do.

I think I might just buck up and go with the asus, the Korean monitors scare me a bit.

I personally don't have any experience with them but plenty of people on the site do. You can talk to skemble specifically if you'd like, he's had hands on experience with them

If you look he has the 290 in there, but he also has his 7850 as well... I think he may not know that the 7850 isnt being used? not sure, but not a downvoteable offense if you ask me.

The 7850 is actually only being used for mining, even though I could use it to run one of my displays.

No offence but could you add more pics of your build? People will think that you're trolling, since you posted only one picture, and give you a thumbs-down.

I'll not give any thumbs-up or thumbs-down in this until more pictures have been uploaded.

Also I don't believe its a new build as the case in the picture is already covered in dust...

Hey so I am not quite sure what you consider a new build, but I obviously bought these parts semi recently(r9 290) and got the pc in a running state around December 10th.

I have ran out of things to change or add to it, so I now consider it complete.

The dust must be from the remodeling going on in my house.

If you are thinking of adding a second 290 why'd you choose that mobo? It can run 2 GPUs but they would run x8x4 not x8x8.

Can you hear the Fractal fans?

Very nice build. I know this case is silent optimized but I was wondering how is the airflow in this case,, airflow is everything to me but im pretty interested in thise case. Do the stock fans push a decent amount of air and how much could you get in the front going to the graphics card? Any response is greatly appreciated.

sorry for the late response. the airflow in this case is good. to be honest I think it is really good but this is my first build so I don't have much to compare it to. the 2 stock fans it comes with are plenty. I still have one added in the front, and on in the bottom just because I bought them and they really didn't change the noise. my r9 290(which is known for getting really hot) stays fine at 80c

I noticed you had two different cards. You said it was for litecoin mining on the 7850 and everything else on the 290. If they can work independently like this then can you run say the 7850 on one monitor and the 290 on another monitor? I want to know if I can run a gtx 780 or a 290 like you for most things then power another monitor (a 900p monitor) with my 5770(s).
