Description

This is my second update since building this rig in 2013. Links to the original build and first update are below. The main purpose of this update was to improve gaming performance, theme consistency and build aesthetics.

Original Build: https://pcpartpicker.com/b/Vmhqqs Update #1: https://pcpartpicker.com/b/dr2RsY

UPDATES

CPU

i7-5820k => i7-6800k I wanted to use the i7-5820k in my home server (https://pcpartpicker.com/b/R2xG3C) so I decided to pick up a 6800k for the gaming rig.

SSD

Added an M.2 NVME drive (Samsung 960 Pro 512GB) Couldn't resist this upgrade.

New GPU

GTX 970 (x2) => GTX 1080ti This was a necessary upgrade in order to push my 4k screens to their full potential which I was previously unable to do with my SLI GTX 970 setup. After upgrading my graphics card I was able to play basically every game at 4k Ultra 60fps. About a month later I decided to swap out my display for something a little more gamer-centric with a higher refresh rate.

Monitor

Samsung UHD 28" (x2) => Asus pg348q

AESTHETIC UPDATES

Cables

I replaced the green corsair professional cables with UV reactive cable extensions from primochill.

Lighting

Replaced Phobya UV LEDs with 4 UV Cold Cathode and a high quality inverter. I definitely prefer the CCFL UV lights over the LEDs because the CCFLs don't cast any ambient blue/purple light like the UV LEDs and they seem to maintain their brightness better over time.

Vinyl

Created custom vinyl labels/wraps for the PSU, SSD, side panel, front-panel IO and fan cover

BENCHMARKS

TimeSpy

FireStrike

FireStrike Extreme 1.1

UPDATES

2017.08.24 - New PSU Cables from CableMod. I was having issues with the ones I had previously purchased. Added the matching CableMod AIO sleeve as well.

and btw why did you bought that asus monitor? why didnt you bought a 4k monitor its cheaper and better and what problems did you had with it because im planning to buy one.

1440p is better than 4k for gaming today. I had two Samsung 4k/UHD 60hz monitors which I replaced with the 21:9 1440p 100hz Asus monitor. Refresh rate is more important than resolution and 4k gaming is still too demanding for most systems.

I've been there IRL, and it's very nice. Just watch out for pickpockets.

How did you get the green on the case? Getting the same case and that looked sick

  • 1 point

Thanks! I applied some green vinyl to the front fan filter. It wasn't too difficult to do, definitely adds to the otherwise very plain case. I specifically used Oracal 631 matte lime tree green vinyl.

Thats awesome, Wasn't too hard to apply the vinyl? much respect for the work, i myself am a huge fan of green... your build hit the feels xD

Vinly was pretty easy to apply - you just have to take your time. I also suggest using a hair dryer or heat gun to help it adhere when you are working with curved surfaces.

Thanks! I really wanted a black and green themed personal build without using any razer gear :D I am pretty happy with how it turned out!

How did you get the radiation thing on your glass panel on your case?? Your pc is amazing

  • 1 point

Thanks! The radiation symbol on the side is a vinyl decal applied to the glass. I believe I got the decal from performance pcs

I agree. The only reason I went with the Pro instead of the Evo was the warranty and I had some extra wiggle room in my budget at the time.
