Description

This was my first build. I decided to go as all-out as it really made sense to for gaming at 1440p 144Hz. This is also for video recording/editing for YouTube and playing around with virtual machines. I went with a black/white/gray build because I wanted a classy look that would last. I purchased a reference Titan X when they first came out, before the 980 Ti was announced, but I couldn't be happier with its performance especially after I installed the EVGA Hybrid kit as an upgrade. However, installing the hybrid kit was a real pain and I don't plan on doing anything similar in the near future. Under load, overclocked, the card performs like a champ and never gets above 50 when gaming. When it's really amped up there is a quiet but distinct coil whine, but it isn't very loud at all. My system is very quiet and you can hardly hear it; you certainly can't hear it with headphones on. I had the Bose speakers lying around and they're fine for my needs. Also added a wireless adapter for my Xbox One controller as well as a Dbrand vinyl skin for it. Now the only thing left is a new desk!

I should add that I purchased the wifi card so that I could connect my desktop to my dual band wireless router. Just my desktop uses the 5 GHz band and since the router is in the same room as my comp the connection is rock solid. Gaming I never have more than 63 ping which is amazing!

Translucent keycaps for my K70 are coming soon!

I am looking at upgrading to the liquid cooler that you have. How is it? Temps? Noise?

The H1ooi GTX? Great! I can't hear it over my accompanying quiet edition fans, and my cpu never gets over 65 when stress-testing overclocks in AIDA64. It's also black and gray which matches the rest of my build nicely.

Nice! I am looking at upgrading to that sometime this summer.

Great looking build, what did you use for the lighting?

I used these. They work really well if you don't mind using a remote. You also have to have a line of sight to the accompanying sensor (mine sticks out of the 5.25' bay at the top front of my case). Something like an NZXT Hue that's controlled via software might be nicer, but these are perfect for my needs - aka just solid colors. It has a few options for color cycles as well.

EDIT: it is also powered via molex so that might not be desireable.

Oh ok, sweet, thanks for the reply! Actually, I can see the benefit of having a remote. I've actually looked a bit at the Hue, but the drawback to me for that is taking up a 5.25 bay, as I am going with the phanteks enthoo pro m, which only has one, which I'm strongly considering sticking a card reader/fan controller in the bay. I'm still considering options, thus asking you about your setup! As for the usage of molex, I'm not keen on the pros/cons of doing that, as I am a newb to building lol

So the best would be the Hue+ right? 2.5", software controlled in Windows, and it looks cool. Too bad it's been sold out everywhere. The disadvantage of this Satechi thing is the molex power. It's really not much of an issue at all, but my power supply only has molex connectors that are 2x so as a result I have an extra cable to manage. And I haven't figured out where I can really mount the power brick so it hangs from my 5.25" bays tied with a cable tie. That's why the Hue+ would be better since I could just mount it on the back of my motherboard tray with my SSD.

Ahh yes, I was overlooking the fact that there is the Hue and also the Hue+. The Hue+ definitely looks amazing, but yeah it is out of stock. Guess I'll just bide my time until I can get ahold of one :)

Thanks just added the backlighting last week. The caps are Max Keyboards Black Translucent Keycaps. You can get them from their online store but I just got them on Amazon

Do all 5820k's can be overclocked to 4.4 ghz using that cooler like you did or it just can reach that far?

You should look up ppl's overclock results on overclockers.uk or the Linus Tech Tips forum for more results. I think in general they can often go higher than mine I believe.
