Description

This is my first build I found it to be a lot of fun for me. I named this project "Enduring Freedom" because my lovely wife and I are about to have our first baby girl together and being the amazing woman she is, she supported me to build this to help keep me sane and for gaming during my "free" time ;).

Lets see where to start.... First Off thank you Honey! <3 <3 <3

Case: Corsair 540... LOVE IT!!! I started off with a Fractal R4 and returned it for this. Very unique case and well designed. I have read reviews about the side panels appearing to be "flimsy" but had no problem with them, I was actually pleasantly surprised about how well they were constructed. Air flow is obviously amazing and the cable management cannot be beat... (NOTE: overlook some of the stray cables in my case ;)..... to in a hurry and I have fixed that now)

CPU: Built for gaming.... I don't need hyper threading. Tried and proven cpu.. good stuff.

H100i: I like the clean look of it and how I dont have a huge air cooler filling the entire case. The link software is a bit disappointing and the pump made some annoying "whine" noise during 3D benchmark but that's the only time so far I have heard it... even during gaming on max settings.

GPU: LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT. And sexy to boot.

MOBO: I'm a huge fan of ASUS and I like the color scheme =P plus the utilities are pretty nifty.

SSD: For the OS and system files. Boots like a champ.

RAM: Read the reviews and all seem to agree that standard RAM is a easy choice for gaming solutions.. It's RED and G.SKill have lifetime warranty.

Optical Drive: Cheap and people should take note that the vertical config is no problem at all.... can open and close all day and your CD will not flop out.

LIGHTS: The NZXT HUE light controller and LED strip really bring the case to life... pictures really don't do it justice, I only took a few and it has many more options and colors then I show but I hope it gives you and idea. It was plenty long enough to go complete around my case and then had an entire top panel length extra.

Well I guess that's it for now... Just have to get online while I can in between changing diapers =).

All comments, praise, critics, and questions welcome. I love feedback so please give lots. This site and the people here really helped me get this project off the ground.

NOTE I had a strange ERROR issue that would cause my PC to freeze in windows. Screen would just complete lock, no error messages or otherwise prior indications of problems. I ran MEMtest86 with no errors, FurMark, and 3D Mark with little issue (It did freeze once during 3D mark but a reset and second test made it all the way). I can play games with no issue and they are BEAUTIFUL. The problem seems to happen during peer-peer transfers, downloading/uploading, and strangely idling.. This happened every 1-30min's. But so far today no problems, no freezes, but I cant say that I consciously did anything to stop it and paranoid it will come back. If there's any ideas let me know! Thanks guys, and enjoy the post!

Update Clean install with a less "hurry" approach to drivers seems to be fixing the issue.

Update Found the problem for sure! Have a bad funky stick of RAM... It passed MEMtest98 but If It's the only one that freezes my PC when in use in any slot.. The other stick works good in any slot.... so what else can it be? heh

Very nice build. But you are mistaken. You will have no free time. As the father of an infant and preteen daughter, I have come to realize my free time is not free. Congratulations on the litte bundle of joy. And enjoy the game time when it does come.

Whos money was spent?

If you keep having problems, it could be a defective computer part.

My money... Clean install seems to be working so far. Will see what happens when I go back to dual chn mem.

fantastic build, but you might as well go ahead and put that bad boy up for sale when that baby comes. the only use its going to get is when your wife is googling information on the baby lol

Max on everything I do so far with min FPS of 55 or so in some of them ore intense parts. The world of max settings is a nice one indeed.

Hey man,

Dig this build. Mine current setup is vary similar to yours and I'm enjoying it very much.

With the your computer freezing, I originally thought RAM but a successful MEMTest, should indicate your CPU and RAM is fine. Plus, using hardware with a defect will usually cause a shutdown /r.

My guess that something is wonky with the Windows 7 install, likely in the registry..... I would backup, re install Win7 and bring the drivers back up to date, then install games etc.

Thanks for the tips! Just did a clean install and have all the Windows updates. No freeze so far. Going to ease into the mono drivers now then the little extra stuff. I also took out one stick of RAM for the re install process at a friend's suggestion.

I wanted better air cooling and the 540 just seemed to speak to me more. I like not having standard looking tower and 540 is much more spacious and pleasant to look at... for me at least. I love the full window on the side. Only thing I would change is more air filters.

The shorter case makes it a joy to have up on desk with you as well, the tower is barley 2" taller then my monitor so its much more balanced feeling. I have played World Of Tanks / Planes so far as "test" games... both max settings flawlessly with between 50 and 120 fps. Coming from a pure min setting 4 year old laptop this almost makes me want to cry. Plan on getting back into battlefield 4 and really excited to get titan fall.
