Description

Hello everyone...

This has been my first custom gaming build. After 2 long years of buying and flipping gaming laptops, and other items off of Craigslist. I have finally made enough profit to complete my own beast of a gaming desktop. And boy oh boy! Am I happy with what I've put together. As a backstory, I started flipping laptops with an initial investment of $450 for an M11x r2 Alienware 11 inch laptop and resold it for $650. After that I was hooked, constantly searching for bargains. Finally, after the purchase and resell of five other laptops and tons of other electronics, I finally had enough profit to build my own badboy gaming rig. Although the laptops were fun and the last one I actually had was an Alienware M17x R5, the newest model, with a 780M graphics card. It just wasn't enough power for the games I wanted to play, the way I wanted to play them. Now, ladies and gentlemen this is the fruits of my labor! Two dedicated years of buying and selling random items and computers, with only $750 out-of-pocket and the desire to get what I really wanted. I'm sure you've all heard stories about the person who started with a pen and traded with other people until he eventually wound up with something cool like a car. Well here's my "almost free" Ferrari of the PCWorld :-)

The above pics show my makeshift computer desk. I believe this is supposed to be a woman's vanity. Lol. I live in an apartment so I decided to create my own "mini man-cave" between the bathroom and closet. But considering my gal and little girl pretty much control the look of the rest of the home, this 3 foot by 3 foot space is all mine. Lol. Check out the light up mouse pad. Go Pack Go!

Honestly, I love this case, up front it looks so clean and business professional, until you see it from its side where it's ready for adventure! Kind of like the pc case equivalent of a mullet hairstyle! Haha. Hence my computer's should be action film name "Executive Deception".

Please comment and tell me what you think and any mods you think I should look into so I can make it even better. I will add more pics later...

UPDATE Just found a hopeful solution to the carpet dilemma for $1.99... Thx IKEA.

Totally agree. With the bottom intake fan you will be cleaning those filters every other day. Trust me I know I have the same case lol. Nice build. Gotta upvote a fellow T31!

I'll echo this. I would recommend building a small platform to put under it since there's not much room on your desk to place it.

I do agree on this as I have mine on the floor. However I also live in the high desert and yes that makes it even more dusty.

+1 for the mini man cave! Good looking build, and good work on cables! I do agree with the other posts on getting it off the carpet. If you can, you will be glad you did.

I wanted to use that case, i was afraid though due to the lack of good reviews. It seems that it worked out for you

It really is a good case. I wish some more of the guys who used it other than me would rate it!

I like mine a lot. The only thing I would change on it, is have some more places to tie down on the back side of the motherboard tray towards the back of the case and maybe have 140 mm fans options in the front and the bottom

Wow! Rags to riches is still possible even with Obuma. Seriously, I am impressed at what you created. And I love your sense of humor. It rocks. However, the man cave/closet I can do without. Go back to hustling things on CraigsList so you can save up for a bigger place. A nice system like that needs room for its owner to move around. Besides, when you get your triple monitor set up it will need to go horizontal, not vertical. :)

Yeah, it's on my asus, as well as my dell xps 12

I think windows 8 is easy to use if you get used to it but it just has some bugs.

nothing wrong with windows 8/8.1, i use it, i installed classic shell and voila! i was set :D plus the performance increase is worth it.. that and it cost me nothing.

Yeah haha without the classic shell, win 8 is very user unfriendly. I have yet to put it on my xps 12.

I find windows 8 to be very user friendly. I find the start menu fine, although I do use a program that changes it to the default start menu.

I got windows 8 for the boot times, plus keep tossing the idea back and forth about purchasing an IPS 120HZ Touchscreen in lieu of the Samsung 1200p monitor. Would be fun Navigating Windows 8 by touch too. But than again 4K is just around the corner... Decisions decisions.

To game at 4k you would need no less then two 780s recommended by Nvidia. Heck I think AMD recommends two R9 290s. On top of that there is like only one good 4k monitor out there that is good for gaming with a nice refresh rate and its like 24 inches and a TN monitor.
