Description

Edit as of 1-20-15: I replaced the 7970 back in October with the new G1 970 from Gigabyte. I also moved the PC to a room with a desk and added the monitor as well as the new KBM setup. No coil whine issues at all with the 970 I have BTW.

Well after being a console only gamer for the longest, I decided to finally build a gaming PC. I can probably thank Neogaf and the "Build a gaming PC" thread there for making me want to jump in. I'm all new to this and this was my first time ever to build a PC; had a few issues but it plays games flawlessly. I have it hooked up to my 60" Pioneer plasma and 5.1 home theater setup in my living room and it looks fantastic. I got Crysis 3 and Bioshock Infinite free with the GPU and I also bought Tomb Raider, Sleeping Dogs and Hitman Absolution on sale for a total of around $30. It runs Bioshock at 1080p60 on Ultra with no issues except for the 'stuttering' problem that most people are having. Crysis 3 and TR run between ~45-60 fps with a mix of high to maxed settings. It is not OC'd yet as I'm still not comfortable messing with that right now plus I'm happy with the way it is at the moment. Sorry for the low quality photos as my camera is not the best but I will try to get some better ones later.

BTW I am using 8GB Samsung RAM but I see it is not listed on here anymore. I got it from Amazon for $45 back in February before the price took a major hike.

Not bad at all. I am continuously impressed with the R4's cable management. Nicely done.

Love the R4. What convinced you to buy it?

Seeing how praised it was in the Neogaf thread, plus watching reviews on Youtube, etc. Then when in went on sale for $79.99 I had to jump on it.

I love the choice. How's the cabling?

Nice! There is plenty of space between the side panel and motherboard tray. I could spend a little more time and make it look even better.

Mmm, when did you build this? Since last weekend, Newegg had a deal where you buy that motherboard, and get a 1x8 gb module of Crucial ram (either could have stuck with single channel or gotten another stick for dual). I'm glad to say I jumped on that deal.

Back in early April. The prices listed don't reflect how much I actually paid for them though. The vendors listed are the ones I bought each part from.

How are you liking the 7970..? Powercolor Radeon 7970 is on sale for $315 right now... can't decide between Crossfire those, or eventually SLI 770, but maybe just one 770 for now. Awesome build, love the black and yellow!

Thanks! I like it so far. Haven't had any issues with it and it is extremely quiet, especially in this case.
