Description

Beautiful PC I built with the cash leftover from - https://pcpartpicker.com/b/XL29TW

It is a white & red based build based in the NZXT S340 Elite, and originally is supposed to have an H115i cooling the 1700, but after I put on the stock cooler, I thought it looked way too cool to just throw away, so I'll just save my H115i/H100i for my next build.

There's not too much else to say lol, the 1700 is running at 3.9 GHZ at 1.375V and the GTX 1080 runs nice and cool only hitting about 60-70-ish Celsius overclocked to 2100 MHZ. The RAM came stock at 3200 MHZ which is great since Ryzen does take advantage of the higher clocked ram with its Infinity Fabric technology and I have two 16gb kits for a total of 32GB of ram and the lighting pairs beautifully with the rest of the system. The Galax card is absolutely the best RGB lit GPU IMO since it has a huge strip around it, and the Geforce GTX logo all lit by RGB lighting. The fans also have a red LED which also helps in this white/red build. The SSD is stupidly fast and totally worth it, NVME Is the real deal. The RGB LED strip is on the bottom of the case and in the pictures you can see what it looks like in white/red. The MSI Tomahawk board is awesome but the white isn't as white as I thought it'd be, and its a little blueish. The cablemod cables are gorgeous and I hope you enjoy the macro I got of the PCIE cables :) The red lighting on the GPU & CPU cooler are alot more "red" in real life, the camera wasn't able to pick that up very well so it ends up looking kinda orange, but it's definitely not the case IRL, they are as red as you can imagine!

Well, thanks for the read and be sure to leave any questions or comments below!

I like your construction very well done and very clean and it is a Ryzen +1

Apollonir submitter 4 Builds 1 point 19 months ago

Thank you! Once I saw that launch event I just knew I had to build a Ryzen system haha

Sockens 1 point 19 months ago

It is as though all GALAX builds are done so well and so neatly.

Of course, this is no exception. +1

Apollonir submitter 4 Builds 1 point 19 months ago

Thank you! I love the GALAX cards haha, just the name is awesome!

Sockens 1 point 19 months ago

I wanted one for my own personal rig, but they don't sell their glorious HOF 1080 where I can get it.

I honestly wish I had like imported one or something.

Apollonir submitter 4 Builds 1 point 19 months ago

Yeah they're beautiful cards and mine overclocked like a beast! Dunno if it's worth importing thought unless you really really wanted one, cause at the end of the day it is still the same GPU as any other brand lol.

Sockens 2 points 19 months ago

It's all about them A E S T H E T I C S though. Either way, it is what it is, I can't exactly rewrite history.

obeyther 1 point 19 months ago

How and where did you find ram at that price ??

[comment deleted]
obeyther 1 point 19 months ago

Bruh that's a steal

obeyther 1 point 19 months ago

Just another question should I keep or sell my gtx 970 ?

Apollonir submitter 4 Builds 1 point 19 months ago

Depends on what you're doing, if you're only at 1080 60hz and you don't mind turning down a couple settings I don't think you should sell it. And tbh nowadays it's not a huge difference in turning down a few settings if you're really focused on a game you aren't gonna notice stuff like that too much. When I first got this PC my settings were set to high with physx off on Killing Floor 2 and for the first 30 minutes I didn't even notice at all (I usually run ultra) so it's up to you really, but I'd wait until maybe the 1170, and then find a good deal on that. I'd say the 970 is good until then, 2 PC's ago I had SLI 970's so I know what it's like lol.

obeyther 1 point 19 months ago

lol thanks for the info and didn't even know there releasing a 1170

Apollonir submitter 4 Builds 1 point 19 months ago

Of course they will release an 1170 lol, it might not be called that but they will of course make a next generation XX70 card, which is what I was referring too

obeyther 1 point 19 months ago

Sorry to keep on annoying you but I'm stuck between the ryzen 1500x or 1600 and have no clue of which one to buy

Apollonir submitter 4 Builds 1 point 19 months ago

1600 Easy. The 1500x is missing a few cores and you wont be able to just overclock and get more cores. The 1600 is the same thing as the 1600x it's just not overclocked, just like how my 1700 is the same CPU as the 1800x :) Even if you don't overclock at all, 1600 is a better buy for sure, but if you do plan on overclocking, you have yourself a 1600x! If I were you I'd definitely splooge on the 1600, and I'd probably pick it over an i5 too! at 220 bucks you can't go wrong with it lol.

DominicBoccella 1 point 19 months ago

Nice Build also nice job on the the color maching

Apollonir submitter 4 Builds 1 point 19 months ago

Thank you! I was about to skip out on cables but I'm really really glad I got them I'm the end!

Elliot7896 1 point 19 months ago

Sup I was just wondering about how loud the pc is.

Apollonir submitter 4 Builds 1 point 19 months ago

Lol why are so many people curious? Lol well anyways, as I mentioned in a previous comment, at idle it's not as dead silent as my last system built in the Fractal Define Nano S, But that had a lot of sound dampening material and I fitted a Noctua us (you can see that build here https://pcpartpicker.com/b/XL29TW ) Since this case has no sound dampening material you could chalk up the idle noise to that, but it's just barely any louder, I'm just nitpicking. At load its actually quieter, even on the overclocked 1700 the wraith cooler stays cool and quiet, although maybe not as silent as the Noctua lol. The GALAX Card in here was pretty much silent in operation and I don't have any HDD's so overall the system was pretty quiet and didn't get much louder than it was at load.

Elliot7896 1 point 19 months ago

Thanks for telling me!

syg101 3 Builds 1 point 19 months ago

if by embrace you mean cough cough make me wet, then yes u did it +2

Apollonir submitter 4 Builds 1 point 19 months ago

Lol wut. I got the name Embrace from Armin Van Buurens album "Club Embrace" and the fact that I'm embracing Ryzen :)

Kobay 1 point 19 months ago

Oh you're the guy that built that 'once in a life time', the PC looks sick man :)

Apollonir submitter 4 Builds 2 points 19 months ago

Haha yup! And thanks for stopping by!

Bbqbubble221 1 point 19 months ago

CMU16GX4M2C3200C16 Is this the same as you RAM and does it run at 3200. Would really appreciate reply as you have the RAM and Motherboard I want :) Also can you change the brightness of the LED RAM?

Apollonir submitter 4 Builds 1 point 19 months ago

It looks to be the same, but a bunch of websites came up when I searched it so I'm not 100% sure. I don't think you can change the brightness but out of the box the ram sticks had this fade in fade out type of pulsing with the colors. And since I put two of the 16gb kits together my ram defaulted to 2133 but a quick change in the Xmp profiles fixed that and I'm running all sticks at 3200 mhz, hope that helps! Lemme know if you have any other questions.

Bbqbubble221 1 point 19 months ago

Do you think they will be able to stay at 3200 for the future? Like when new bios come out

Apollonir submitter 4 Builds 1 point 19 months ago

Probably, but you can just not update your bios if you really cared lol. But it literally took me like 2 minutes to click the 3200 setting. If you get the same motherboard I got just lemme know if you can't figure it out and I'll hit you up :)

Bbqbubble221 1 point 19 months ago

OK decided to get, thanks for your help too. I like that you can take the top part of. I plan to paint them yellow and maybe add a plastic tint so the leds aren't boring white :). Hopefully in the future they will still run 3200.

Apollonir submitter 4 Builds 1 point 19 months ago

Oooh I'd like to see how that turns out! If you end up making it, put up some photos! My next build is going to hopefully be Black/Orange

Max_Stone 1 point 19 months ago

I am doing a white and red build hopefully soon and yours was the first in a while I have seen on here. Can you take more photos of the pc when it's light and not so dark instead please because idk if I want a white or black tomahawk mobo.

Apollonir submitter 4 Builds 2 points 19 months ago

I can't really get any good pics of it right now because of the glare, but I'd say if you're going with white/red it's gonna be more expensive just cause it's harder to find matching color components. Whereas a lot more parts will be usable in a black and red build. Just keep in mind the Arctic Tomahawk isn't 100% white, it has a little bit of a blueish tint to it and this can be seen if put in a white case like the S340 elite. Theres also this yellow strip of light on the left side of the mobo, it's not bright yellow, more of a piss yellow :/ But if you can fork out the cash to make it look perfect, I think that the red & white is totally gorgeous!

Max_Stone 1 point 19 months ago

Agreed. I was thinking the auorus as the ideal mobo but even that is a bit high in price. The cheaper option I see is the msi x370 sli plus but that is more heavy in black

Apollonir submitter 4 Builds 1 point 19 months ago

The Aorus is great but most of the board is black still, I'd say in terms of just how much white is on the board the Tomahawk Arctic is probably the best, but in terms of the best blend of both, I'd say the X370 Taichi is the best, and If I do another white based build I'm definitely going with that lol.

CPU temp?

Apollonir submitter 4 Builds 1 point 19 months ago

During gaming it sits around 65-75C

COMPUTER LIGHTING HEAVEN

Apollonir submitter 4 Builds 1 point 19 months ago

Yeah the only thing I didn't do was the case fans, I could've gone with the AER RGB fans from corsair but it might be a bit much. Thanks for stopping by!

ThatcherTheEpicGuy123 1 point 19 months ago

how did you get it for so cheap

Apollonir submitter 4 Builds 1 point 19 months ago

It's in the first part of the description :)

ThatcherTheEpicGuy123 1 point 19 months ago

I mean where.. what stores

Apollonir submitter 4 Builds 1 point 19 months ago

Well what parts are you talking about? If I didn't get it off of Craigslist then I bought it off of B&H, or Newegg.

Lightsand 1 point 19 months ago

great build, im also trying the 1080 gpu build but im pretty new. If you dont mind checking my build https://pcpartpicker.com/list/KJnWCy and seeing if its all good to go lol. My plan is to have at least 3 monitors lol installed so idk if the psu is alright. also if the ram is compatible with the ram as well im only a noob at this ;-;

Apollonir submitter 4 Builds 1 point 19 months ago

I'd recommend just 16gb of ram and instead of the i5 I myself would grab a Ryzen 1600 and a B350 Motherboard but that's just preference, they are comparable processors. But for sure don't waste the 120 bucks on the extra 16gb of ram, 16 is enough. Also, just a tip in case you wanted the vengeance LED's like I have, they are also around 120 dollars on Amazon. 650w would be more than enough, you could probably run flawlessly on a 550, and personally i'd pick up a 550 or 600w EVGA G3 instead of the G2 for the nicer looking cables. I'd also probably cough up just a couple more bucks to get an SSD from a more trustworthy manufacturer just so you have assurance that it wont fail with all your data saved on it. Also you're overpaying a bit for the 1080, I've seen a couple go for around 410 bucks, which is what I recommend, there's a Gigabyte one with 3 fans (Not the G1 gaming) for sale for 450 right now with the Nvidia game deal thingy. If you want to go with the Ryzen setup let me know! I can help you make a part list or something!

Lightsand 1 point 19 months ago

Yeah i kind of just found out about the ryzen 7 omg lol im so late. I do feel like building one too now :D

Apollonir submitter 4 Builds 1 point 15 months ago

Did you ever end up finishing that build?

Schcmidty15 1 point 18 months ago

I've noticed that yellow LED audio trace on the B350 PC Mate as well. Do you know if there is a way to turn it off in the BIOS or the MSI Gaming App? I'm also curious to know if the white LEDs on the backside of the board can be turned off.

Apollonir submitter 4 Builds 1 point 18 months ago

Dunno, never tried, but I'd assume no. Same goes for the rear LEDS. Never bothered me that much though, so I don't mind too much. But 99% of the time these kind of LEDS aren't able to be turned off.

Whiskey.201 1 point 18 months ago

R7 CPU overclocked on a B350 bored.. thats not very safe

Apollonir submitter 4 Builds 1 point 18 months ago

It's very safe lol. Many people use the B350 boards for overclocking, its not the same story as the Intel side of things. B350 boards are great all rounders and X370 is more of an enthusiast board with extra features such as wifi and better power phases and more USB's. B350 boards may not be able to achieve any clocks above 4.0 or 4.1 GHZ, but anything less is totally achievable and safe.

Eagleye2nai 1 point 18 months ago

Is that just the regular stock cooler the cpu came with? Nice build man +1

Apollonir submitter 4 Builds 1 point 18 months ago

Yup! Funny thing about the Ryzen chips is that pretty much every chip that has an X at the end is worthless. The 1700 is the same CPU as the 1700x and 1800x, same story for the 1600 and 1600x, except that the 1700 and 1600 come with these awesome coolers in the box! The one with the 1700 is called the "Wraith Spire" and it's awesome. Keeps the CPU nice & cool even at a 3.9 ghz overclock. It is a little bit loud but it's great considering it came with the CPU.

Eagleye2nai 1 point 18 months ago

Haha yeah I held myself from buying the new Ryzen CPUs when they first came out because of mobo bios issues. But I believe most of the mobos now are finally able to keep up with the new CPUs. I'm thinking of getting the GALAX ram for my build, have you had any experiences with them? The 16gb 3200 ones are on sale on their website at the moment and I'm really considering it with my build.

Apollonir submitter 4 Builds 1 point 18 months ago

No I didn't even know they made ram lol! I'll have to check it out!

Eagleye2nai 1 point 18 months ago

Oh haha, yeah man they really go with the white aesthetics build I'm planning to build. Definitely worth checking out.

DquafIce 1 Build 1 point 18 months ago

Does the mobo have rgb?

Apollonir submitter 4 Builds 1 point 18 months ago

No, the Black Tomahawk has red LEDS, and the Arctic Tomahawk has white, IDK if the black tomahawk has the weird yellow light on the bottom left but the Arctic one definitely does haha. Not many of the X370 boards support SLI onboard, I know the Aorus boards do, and they are the only ones off the top of my head that I know of. It seems that you just need to buy a MOBO that'll fit for your build instead of relying on RGB, I was originally going black/red and was going to use the Asrock X370 gaming K4.

DquafIce 1 Build 1 point 18 months ago

Thanks :). I couldn't find the answer anywhere. looks like I'm going all white with an rgb strip to change the hue of my PC to match my setup.

Apollonir submitter 4 Builds 1 point 18 months ago

Ah nice, that's what I did as well haha. I have mine at the bottom and since I got the white S340E, It sort of shines from it and it's great lol.

plzDonateAgame 1 point 17 months ago

AMAZING! Nice color combos! Looks clean!

Kshitijgoel15 1 Build 1 point 17 months ago

One of the best ryzen builds. I am glad you went with the stock cooler (since they don't require much cooling) Wish I could give you +10 XD

Apollonir submitter 4 Builds 1 point 17 months ago

Haha thank you so much! Sorry for the late reply, I've been on vacation overseas haha.

Ardavan 1 point 16 months ago

Have you experienced any bottle necking with the 1700 and the gtx 1080?

Apollonir submitter 4 Builds 1 point 16 months ago

Nope! They're a great pair, I don't really do much work related stuff so I honestly probably should've gotten a 7700k but I still love my 1700! I've actually just bought a 1700x cause I got a great deal, and I'm gonna toss on a Corsair AIO, And will make an updated page for the refresh of this build :)

diishen 1 point 16 months ago

Hey there,

I am striving for a similar build, wondering if you have had any problems with the Corsair DDR4-3000 after some mileage. I wanted to go with the TridentZ RGB but have been reading a lot of Ryzen incompatibility issues with those, perhaps Corsair is the way to go since I really want some RGB.

Would appreciate any insight, thanks!

Edit: Just realized those Corsairs aren't RGBs but still love the LED lighting.

Apollonir submitter 4 Builds 1 point 16 months ago

Well one thing I did notice was that the overclock didn't seem to stay, I set everything at 3200 in the bios but the speed was still showing like 2133 or something. That's all. They came stock with a sort of "pulse" effect and the effect wasn't synced between dimms but I didn't mind it too much. Sorry for the late reply!

Sampson1616 1 point 9 months ago

Hey, I'm new to building PC's. Is this all I need? I don't need to buy anything else to put it together? Like, with the parts I'm buying I won't have to order something to put it together, like paste, glue or something the included parts are all I'll need to build it? This will be the first PC I build so I'm trying to do it right, and since I I don't have much money at my disposal past the money I'm spending on this I'd hate to find out it wouldn't be the right combo aha, might be a dumb question but thanks

Apollonir submitter 4 Builds 1 point 8 months ago

LOL way late, I don't check PCPP often anymore lol. But yep! in fact stuff like my cablemod cables aren't necessary, they're just pretty haha.

Granny7 1 point 2 months ago

how much do cable mod cables normally cost? I am looking to build my first pc and I want my pc to look good. I need to know how much the cables cost for me to decide whether I want them or not.

Apollonir submitter 4 Builds 1 point 2 months ago

They're really overprice in my opinion lol, A full set is like 60-90 dollars, there are other companies that make cables so such as bitfenix but they're all kind of expensive.

Jeffjei 1 Build -1 points 19 months ago

more pictures. not pictures of the fan. full pictures of your setup. thanks.

Apollonir submitter 4 Builds 1 point 19 months ago

Don't have one :) It's an old desk with crap all over it, Monitor is a Viewsonic XG2401 and I use a Corsair K70 hope that helps!

Jeffjei 1 Build 1 point 19 months ago

why do people go for 24"? its small

Apollonir submitter 4 Builds 1 point 19 months ago

I think it's alright lol, I came from a 21.5 so it feels great for me! Plus the monitor was part of a previous Craigslist deal, you can read about it in my other build here. https://pcpartpicker.com/b/XL29TW

I was originally going to get a 27 inch but this deal was just too crazy lol.

[comment deleted]
Apollonir submitter 4 Builds 1 point 19 months ago

Absolutely! I've used the Foudners edition, and Zotac AMP edition cards in the 10 series and I'd pick the Galax card over all of them. I've used EVGA's FTW and MSI Golden edition cards with the 980ti and 970, and I'd still pick the Galax card, mine hit 2100 but it wasn't super stable so its at just a flat 2000 right now, my founders 1070 hit 2170 but its not a huge difference. The card is suuuuuper quiet, but idk if it's my GPU or motherboard but the card sags a little. Might just be my motherboard. I'd say it's the best looking card in the 10 series because of the awesome RGB strip surrounding the card, and the LED's on the fans which shine light perfectly on the shroud of my S340 Elite :) (on the white card I believe the LED's are white, keep in mind these lights on the fan are not RGB and are not interchangable.) The Geforce GTX logo is a nice touch as well. If you have a nice well lit case you're definitely gonna see the beautifully crafted crown shape as well on the end of the shroud. But to answer your original question, yes absolutely they perform right up there with all the mainstream brands like EVGA and ASUS! Warranty probably isn't as good as EVGA per say, but I've never had any issues on any of my GPU's (I've had quite a couple lol) so this isn't a problem at all to me. Performance wise in cooling and acoustics, the EXOC SNPR is right up there with the best!

Dunno lol, It was 2 16gb kits and they all say 3200 mhz on them, but when I started up the ram was running at 19xx, so I needed to adjust the XMP profile in the bios. Maybe they don't come 3200 out of the box but it could just be that I installed them in a configuration they weren't meant to be lol.

[comment deleted]
Apollonir submitter 4 Builds 1 point 18 months ago

Well the BIOS says they're still running at the 19xx speed, but I have all the settings and profiles set at 3200. Haven't bothered to check with any other programs. I think it's just because I chose to get a B350 board, dunno if it supports the 3200mhz ram properly, or maybe it can't support quad channel memory configs at high speeds.

There is no sound dampening material on the S340 elite which I found disappointing, it's a little louder than my last build in the Fractal Nano s, but during gaming it's barely any louder than idle the GALAX card and the wraith cooler are very quiet.

Apollonir submitter 4 Builds 1 point 19 months ago

Yeah I know right? Dunno why AMD doesn't bundle it with the 1700x or 1800x especially since they're the same CPU as the 1700...and Intel definitely needs to make a competitor to the Wraith Spire, it honestly looks really nice

Yeah what happened was when I was building everything I layer the glass panel on its side with the plastic wrap (leaving the interior side exposed) and then I only realized my mistake after putting it back on and I was too lazy to take it off and clean it lol. And yeah the GALAX card is pretty heavy and the metal support around the pcie lane on this msi board wasn't as good as my Gigabyte gaming 5 so there is a little sag. Thanks for stopping by though! P.S. At least I don't have ketchup and mustard cables :P
