Description

I decided that my mom's Dell Inspiron 530 needs to go. I gave it to her a few years ( not new ) ago to replace her P4 Compaq pc. It's not a bad pc, with a Intel E8400 cpu and a 500gb 7200 drive, & 4gb ram but its getting a bit old and slow. I already had the ram, hard drives, dvd drive, psu and OS. I picked up the i5-3470 from a friend for $75. After that I went with the MSI H61M because it has enough ports and mostly my mom uses her pc for web based stuff, PDF's and Office applications. I got the Zalman cooler because its cheap and I've used it on half a dozen different builds before. The Cooler Master N200 is a pretty decent case and isn't to flashy, plus it $40. Building in it was easy and no sharp edges. I'm going to replace the psu with a SeaSonic 350W 80+ before I give it to her. I only used that psu to build and install the OS. It's a very basic pc, but also very fast and more than enough for what my mom will be using it for. I installed the OS on the 128GB SSD and then pointed all the folders to the 500GB WD blue drive, which will be plenty of space for her.

This is awesome! My dad has a Dell Inspiron 430 and it is sooooooo slow! I'm very tempted to do what you've done. Tell me how it works out! :-)

Perfect build general home use! I built a similar desktop for a friend's parents not to long ago; runs like a champ.

I only have one concern. I am curious if that MOBO has a BIOs version that will support Windows 10. I have a Gigabyte Z68 chipset MOBO that will not support a Windows 10 installation. The OS will install and run for a brief time but will eventually crash due to hardware incompatibility.

Thanks. I've built a Windows 10 pc with a MSI H61M-P31 motherboard before without any problems, I just went with Windows 7 on this one as that's what my mom currently has. My "leftovers" ( http://pcpartpicker.com/b/C8f8TW ) build I used a Gigabyte Z68M-D2H motherboard and installed Windows 10 without any problems on that one.

Well dang, thanks for the info. I have a GA-Z68XP-UD3P. I suppose I may have to check with Gigabyte support to see what they recommend.

I don't know if they would officially support, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.

I think you missed where OP mentioned PSU to be replaced before giving it to his mom....lol

Thats a 2007 article suggesting that PSU is at least 9 years old. I think it's done very well so may not be as bad as you stated.

Edlnk you are correct * I'm going to replace the psu with a SeaSonic 350W 80+ before I give it to her. I only used that psu to build and install the OS. * It seems a lot of people don't really read the description before hammering the build. Step one read parts list to find psu, immediately comment that the psu is a POS, drops mic.

People on this site have a bad habit of not reading and then opening their mouths when their question was already answered in the description. :p

It certainly seems that way. I Try to look at the parts, read ALL the description, look at the pictures, THEN comment.
