So a bit of explanation. This is my Dad's new PC. The only game he plays is 14 years old. So he said he needs a lot of ram and the more cores the better. Since he was previously using a laptop with an i7 6700hq that his company provided, But for some reason that he does not know they decided to take it back. He still has another laptop that they provided him but that thing is a piece of crap. So we spent two hours in the Micro Center parking lot while he decided on if he wanted a laptop or a desktop. Over all this system will work for what it was built for. Plenty of upgrade options for when he upgrades the ram and if he ever does need a more powerful gpu.
Edit: I would also like to add that the monitor he now uses is a Samsung 40" 4k tv. He has bad vision even with his glasses so he can't really see stuff on a monitor that is under 28". First 4k screen we have ever gotten and netflix looks great in 4k.
It was the best cpu for the price for what he needs. Core count is much more important then core speed for him so an 8c/16t cpu was perfect for the price.
Got it because it was one of the cheaper am4 atx motherboards that supported over clocking. Micro Center offers $50 off when you also buy a compatible cpu. So that is why it was so cheap.
Like I said before he needs a lot of ram. He frequently maxed out the 16gb on his old laptop so he decided to go with 32gb now and another 32gb later.
Samsung 960 EVE. It is a cheap and fast nvme ssd and that is what he wanted. He plans to add a sata ssd later but for now it is just this as the boot drive.
He does not need a really powerful gpu instead just needs an nvidia gpu that has a good enough amount of vram. This was the cheapest 1050ti at Micro Center and that is the only reason we got it.
Very easy to work in. Cable management was easy and I barely had to do anything. I have no clue why the fan setup was 2 out takes. I moved one fan to the front so it would actually have an intake.
It is very basic, And basic is good. All the cables I needed were already on there so there was no need for extra cable management.
It is the fastest wifi chip either my Dad or I have ever used. I was going to get one for myself then remembered that he would need one so I just grabbed 2. He said he has never been able to install his programs so fast. I tested it by installing a game on steam and it works really well. could download a 7gb game in under 15 minutes. Compared to my old wifi chip which took almost an hour to download the same game. I also played a game of League of Legends and unlike my previous chip I had no lag spikes at all.
