Throughout time, many heroes have risen to face life's challenges only to fall short... and end up upgrading many parts over the years, killing wallets along the way.

Not this time.

I have been building "budget friendly" computers for many years now (15y 3m to be more accurate) by balancing best bang for buck for those who get me to build PC's, yet always ended up taking the cheaper route for my own rig; likely because it was my own money being spent. Looking at my last build I tallied all the upgrades I did over a few years to get the computer to where I was happy with it and threw up in my mouth... so I've opted to go higher end this time and not have to touch anything (hopefully) for the next long while.

I wanted something more compact than my previous HAF-X (easily done), not the typical red build and to be a little more subtle and mature than my previous builds; I am getting older after all. So aesthetics ruled my every choice as I painstakingly selected my every part, finally deciding to go with a green build which obviously hit the subtle nail on the head. /s

I loooooove the design aesthetics of the s340 Razer edition, all matte and green with frickin' running lights like this little dude watched Fast & Furious wayyyyyyy too much! Perfect. Well... except you have to be VERY careful with the tinted window. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT wipe the window with anything other than the softest lint free cloth known to mankind. That window will etch if you look at it funny. You have been warned.

The Nepton 240m was selected based on extensive research and wanting to do something cleaner than another Evo 212. My only gripe... the COOLER MASTER logo should be rotatable. I would have preferred the piping come from the left side however that would result in the logo being upside-down, which would drive me insane. So having the piping come from the right side made it a bit of a pig to install and not look like hot garbage. (thinking on it, it's really only an issue because the radiator could only be installed in the front, which is less than desirable thermally speaking. Had it been on the rear or top then it wouldn't be an issue)

Yes I know I could have done a custom loop. cost and laziness won this time. I didn't feeeeeeel like it in such a small space

While this was an expensive build, I did manage to catch some good deals, purchased my parts before the Canadian dollar tanked and saved a few bucks by pilfering my SSD's from the previous computer before I sold that one.

i7 6700k- Run good. Overclock good. Run game good. Good make happy. G1 980ti- Run good also. Pretty light. Crush game. Make happy too. RAM is RAM. Stable. No complaints. PSU- All my current projects have G2's. 'Nuff said.

Currently I am using a BenQ xl2720z, so yes I know my 980ti is wayyyyyyyyy overpowered for 1080p gaming. Monitor is the one upgrade I will be doing in the not so distant future, hopefully... assuming I can avoid wife aggro. >_> Wish me luck!

Edit 22/04/2016 I've updated prices finally >_> Was being lazy, my bad.

I don't remember what I paid for the k70 as it's old and the Sennheisers are reaaaallllly old, but still damn good. I exercised a lot of patience with this build and bought some parts when they were on sale months before I did the actual build, such as the PSU and Nepton. The rest I flexed some Kijiji muscles and worked some deals with some of the shops I have established relationships with. (AKA discounts due to all the business I bring them)

My frugal side got the better of me when I went with the Sandisk Ultra II instead of the Extreme Pro... Ah well... Such is life. I'll need to add more storage eventually.

I caught some good deals and got my parts before the Canadian dollar tanked, as well as salvaged my SSD's from the previous build before I sold that one.

By the looks of it everything was free......

I thought this was a great read! I really love the aesthetics of this build. It has just enough "bling factor" while still being very subtle. +1 for sure! Keep up the great work!

Hey, I was wondering how that keyboard is. Any good?

manbo submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

keyboard is the old Corsair k70 with cherry brown. The keyboard is great, however it had the blue LEDs which have a bunch burned out and Corsair wouldn't repair as it was out of warranty. Kinda pissed about that but hey...

T_T Hulk says it's about the motion of the ocean... rendered at a constant 144FPS...

I think he's a bit upset now.
