I've been looking forward to a new PC for quite a while. My old PC is just too loud and overheating problems shut it down frequently in summer.
After I moved to Irvine, I discovered that Micro Center is just a few blocks away. So I got i5 4690K and AsRock Z97 extreme 4 combo at a low price. After $30 combo discount and $10 mail in rebate, the mother board is only $89. It's a good deal.
To lower noise level, I tried to use quieter cooling devices and lower the temperature at the same time. At first I have considered a completely fanless build. However, the fanless CPU cooler has to maintain a high CPU temperature, which will raise the overall temperature inside the case. So, instead of a huge fanless CPU cooler, I decide to go with Noctua U9S. It is definitely an overkill. As for PSU, I finally chose Seasonic 520FL2. I don't think a regular PSU can cool down better inside NZXT S340 case since the PSU is isolated by a 'roof top'. Actually, the PSU turns out to be cool all the time (so don't worry if you are considering H440 or S340 with fanless PSUs).
Some review says that Inno3D GTX970 Ultra version is the coolest one. Sadly I cannot find one in the US. So I used Gigabyte WF OC3 instead. The fan noise is acceptable; I played COD10 at highest video settings in 2560 x 1080 for about 2 hours and the GPU temperature is still 35 degree according to GPUZ.
