Description

This is my old gaming rig I used to have since 2011. Of course it changed over the years, starting with

  • MSI R6850 Cyclone 1 GB
  • WD Black 640 GB
  • Samsung 830 128 GB SSD
  • Some Corsair 4x2 GB DDR3 Kit

Later it got an Asus R9 270X DirectCU II 4GB until heading into the current one.

This rig with the current part list is still in use by a good friend who was in strong need of a PC. It still does its job well.

You found a grateful home for a well-kept PC, can't argue with that.

Now that component lighting & minimal case geometry are trending so hard, I'm finding these old designs more interesting. A lot of them look like the front of a train & they give me ideas for customization.

Yeah my friend is very grateful.

I admit that this one has lighting as well but you can't see it very well because the case has no window. The fans glow in violet and the front LED was originally red but I changed it to violet as well. I just took one LED from one fan ;). You can see the glowing from the LED through the mesh when it's dark.

Well that sounds downright subtle compared to a lot of today's stuff. In the future I expect all the RGB business will be a quick way to determine the years when a PC was built.

I guess you are right. Who knows what future PC parts will bring us? Maybe some Perfume while running or something like that ;)
