This is my 3rd personal computer build. My first in over 8 years. I mainly use it for gaming, some streaming and light video editing. It took me about 5 months to piece this computer together. I wanted to do it right and as cheapest as possible without sacrificing performance or aesthetics. I would like for it to last me about another 5 years or so. As you can see from my part list it paid to be patient as I saved a lot of money. All of my parts are brand new except for a couple of items and I'll explain that below. Some parts were purchased from eBay as open box items but are still brand new. That is where I was able to save a bit of money. I was initially going to go with a GTX 1070 or 1080, even considered the RTX 2070. However, believe it or not my mind was made up for me when I WON the 1080ti sc2 graphics card during the PAXWest live stream EVGA Weekly giveaway with Jacob, back on September 3rd. I never win anything and was so stoked when I heard my name announced as a winner. It's a great card to win at that. I really enjoyed piecing this build together. This is easily a $2,600.00 build done for $1,210.40. Feel free to ask any questions.
***EDITED- I finally OC'd my CPU to 5.0GHz at 1.30V. It runs pretty cool at full load at 68°, I'm pretty sure I got a pretty good chip. I know I can push it even further since I'm only at 1.30V at 68°. This is what I'll run it at for everyday use. I'll OC it some more in next couple of days just to see how far I can push it and I'll post the results once I do. Stay tuned.
CPU - Intel 8086k - $320.00 I always planned on an Intel CPU. I went with the 8086k as it's slightly faster than the 8700k and I bought it from a friend for around the same price as a 8700k. So to me it was a no brainer. My friend owned and used it for 2 months before upgrading to the i9-9900k.
CPU COOLER - Corsair H100i PRO 75 CFM Liquid - $68.10 I originally purchased the older style Corsair H100i v2 from a guy on eBay. He claimed he only used it for about a week until he swapped it out for a custom water loop. Well, when i hooked it up on my new build the pump didn't work. It was to late to file for a return as I had purchased it 5 months prior to hooking it up. Luckily I was able to get the original sales receipt and RMA it with Corsair. They sent me the newer PRO cooler, brand new in the box as they no longer have the H100i v2. I had to pay $10.00 in freight charges but $58.10 + $10.00 = $68.10 is still cheaper than at the stores. At first I was mad but I think I ended up ahead in the end. As the PRO has the quieter ML series fans and nicer RGB.
MOTHERBOARD - Asus ROG STRIX Z370-E GAMING ATX LGA1151 - $135.00 I have always been a fan of Asus motherboards. I've used them in all my builds and find them to be very reliable with little to no issues. I purchased this off of a reputable eBay store. It was brand new but in an open box. Customer had changed his mind and wanted the Hero model instead.
MEMORY - Corsair Dominator Platinum 16 GB (4 x 4 GB) DDR4-3000 - $169.75 What can i say... I just love the way this memory looks. On top of it being a pretty reputable brand, I love the aesthetics. I went with the 4 modules as I think it makes the build look much nicer. I really wanted the Corsair Dominator Chrome SE memory but couldn't see myself paying around $600.00 for 32 GB. I purchased mine brand new off of eBay for the $169.75, and that was even when memory was $200+ for 16 GB of cheap brand memory.
STORAGE - Samsung 970 Evo 250 GB M.2-2280 SSD - $75.00 Wanted something that was going to boot my computer super fast. Also plan to put my most played games on this drive as well. Purchased this on eBay as brand new open box. Man is it fast. Samsung 860 Evo 500 GB 2.5" SSD - $65.00 I purchased this on eBay as brand new open box even before the SSD price drops. Western Digital Caviar Blue 1 TB 3.5" 7200RPM - $18.20 I wanted something inexpensive to put my older, less frequently used files, games, etc. I purchased this used off of eBay. It was used for 3 months prior to me.
VIDEO CARD - EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11 GB SC2 - $0.00 I really like the way this card looks. Oh, and did I mention it was FREE!! You can't go wrong with free. I WON the 1080ti during the PAXWest live stream EVGA Weekly giveaway with Jacob, back on September 3rd. I was watching that event live online on and off for 4 days before I won on the last day of the event on the last giveaway. When I heard my name announced I jumped up and down and screamed like a little girl for about 5 minutes. Man was I happy and excited.
CASE - NZXT S340 Elite (White) ATX Mid Tower - $108.24 I just love the way this case looks. Not only does it look nice, it's pretty accessible to work with as well. It has plenty of room for cable management. I know there are newer models with more features out there. I've had my eyes on this one since it first came out. I purchased this at my local Fry's electronic store.
POWER SUPPLY - EVGA SuperNOVA G2 750 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX - $50.00 I like this power supply as it is fully modular. I purchased this from my local Craigslist. It was pre-owned for 5 months with the full transferable warranty intact.
Please tell me what you think of my build. Any questions or comments are appreciated.
