Description

The build was quite troublesome, started off with a faulty board, one of the cpu pins was bent. The lining of the static bag rubs off on the white shielding which needed to be cleaned off on both boards i had. Im pretty sure i have a faulty cpu, the temps are way too high and I've tried the stock cooler, H80i and the Water 3.0 Ultimate all giving off way to high temps from what I've read online. Also had to add rubber washers to the back plate on both the H80i and Water 3.0 as they were not making proper contact with the cpu. You can imagine the anguish i had wondering what was wrong given that the cpu still gives off high temps.

Apart from that i love the look and it has come out just how i wanted, i may change the red accent to white but at the moment it seems to work with the red wifi pcie card.

Next on the list will be the Galax 980 HOF or maybe 2x Galax 970 HOF depending how my expenses go, then the build will be fully complete

UPDATE 12/01/15 - Purchased a White LED light strip for the case. Also have a red strip i can use, will play around with them see how it goes, last thing I want to do is make it look pink lol. Have also decided I will change the red cabling to White when i get around to it

UPDATE 28/01/15 - Finally purchased the Galax GTX970 HOF, beast of a card! Perfect for a white build, will of course get another for SLI. Had to return the Thermaltake cooler though, had a faulty pump, just using stock cooler for now until I decide on a new cooler, probably a custom water cooler or a possibly semi custom Raijintek Triton

UPDATE 09/02/15 - Update gallery with current build, including Galax GTX970 HOF and with only stock cooler currently, still haven't decided on what to purchase. Removed the Red cables, and will be installing white cables soon, must admit current build does seem to lack some sparkle, maybe its just the faulty NZXT logo not working anymore :P

UPDATE 21/02/15 - Well what an exciting few weeks I have had, spending over $1000 on car repairs and a trip to hospital for an op which turned into 7 stitches in my head and 4 in my cheek after passing out after my op lol. But here i am with Kraken X61 added to my build, it performs brilliantly and able to OC to 4.8 stable but dialed back to 4.6 just so it runs nice and cool. One thing i will say with the one i picked up, the LED's inside are not working as intended, even with the latest V2 beta software the colours are just not right, i have to set it to pink to get anywhere near a white colour and it still looks off, once again i have a faulty part which is becoming a common occurrence, thats 3 AIO coolers in a row that have had different issues . About 3 years ago i had a HDD fail, for about 7 years prier to that when i first started building my own machine, i did not have a single purchase fail on me, not one! Just shows you the times we live in

UPDATE 08/03/15 - Just updating my parts list, few things have changed, got a refund on my monitor, was repaired once then they could not fix the issue i found with the repair, apparently all Rog monitors have a particular issue that i could see when playing games. Still having issues with my new Kraken X61 with dodgy LED's inside, will be returning that maybe next week

UPDATE 07/01/15 - Finally added white cables to the build and added another trooper in celebration for the The Force Awakens :) Also aded Hue+ which with some amazing customization for lighting!

good build . but i think that Asus Rog Swift monitor of 800$ don't make any sense this build with that gtx 770 .. u can get a Acer xb270h with g-sync and save 200$ to spend on a better gpu

Hmmm.... Looks very familiar:

I would never touch Acer even if it killed me. Asus fanboy all the way :P Nothing wrong with the GTX770 at 1440 i can still play most games at 30-40 frames

but seeing as it's a 144hz monitor, it's not really showing it's true potential

Im no longer running the GTX770 its now the Galax GTX970 HOF

Seeing your build has made me question why there's not more GPUs with white coolers and backplates.

Anyways, other than the problems with the CPU temps and all the other problems you've had, good build! Though, is there any reason you went with a 770 instead of a 970? +1

He said he's getting a Galaxy HOF 980, which is a white GPU with a white backplate, so I guess that answers both questions.

  • 1 point

the 770 is actually from a previous build, this has been a work in progress for many years just changing parts, previous to this was a Crosshair V with an 8350, i changed literally just because i wanted the white mobo and latter the gpu

The GPU market has somehow gone opposite Hitler on graphics cards...

  • 1 point

where did you manage to find that mobo?

  • 1 point

I wish I knew, die for that mobo... I found an awesome white mobo though!http://pcpartpicker.com/part/msi-motherboard-z97sslikraitedition

  • 1 point

That mobo is limited edition from ASUS. There is only few of them each singed with serial noumber (if i remember total count was 1k or 10k).

Had to be purchased through the UK. 239 euros. I looked into it but decided to go with a Hero. They're making a few thousand of them. Just hasn't been released in the US yet.

  • 1 point

It was purchase from PLE in WA, all WA stores had when i purchased it, even had to get it replaced too, was slightly disappointed as my limited edition number went up by about 1000 :(

  • 1 point

You could easily buy a Sabertooth and use some Plastidip to paint it white yourself, if you can't get your hands on one of the limited editions.

  • 1 point

You should get some replacement PSU cables in white.

  • 1 point

Yeah im thinking about it, few people have told me the red goes well with it so i'll see, white will probably work better but then the wifi card will stick out being the only red

  • 1 point

keep the red cable, its look awesome, it give some accent to the build and with the wifi card its perfect.

  • 1 point

"its perfect" now that's what I like to hear :)

Thank you

Nice build my friend. I'm sure there will be some mod may needed later on +1.

  • 1 point

Looking at your temps I would agree with you on the faulty CPU assumption. With all the money and hard work put into this I would see if you can get them to replace it!! Even though the h440 notoriously runs a little hot but not that hot especially with that cooler! Anyways once you get that 980 in there that will look amazing ! Grats on the great build

  • 1 point

Ive been talking to intel so its still ongoing, have to redo a whole bunch of tests that ive already done just because they wont take my word for it, ugh!

Tempted to just throw the 980 on my credit card.....so tempted!

GTX 970 HOF is available now. If you want to save a few bucks.

Ive thought about the 970 and its a fantastic price but the 980 is just swaying me more

Oh that motherboard... you are one very lucky guy

yeah i feel pretty lucky apart from my limited edition number is over 7000 lol

Just curious but ummmm what does this build run on hopes and dreams?? wheres the PSU hahaha

  • 1 point

Its a thortech 850 which wasn't actually an option to chose from, but ill add it as a custom item

  • 1 point

Where did you get the mark s anyway? Nice build, looks good :) +1

I got it from PLE, Bently, WA. Thank you :)

Thanks for your Trouble, great looks, hopefully great performance.

+1, maybe if you still have a Warranty on your CPU then you can return it or see what's wrong, those temps are way too High. Thanks again.

  • 1 point

Yeah pretty good performance, GTX770 has done a pretty good job at running 1440. Not looking forward to reseating the stock cooler to go through all of intel's testing though

/sigh!

I know the feelz. It woulda been great if everything, yaknow, just kinda worked.

Anywhos, all the best, and a great build.

Are you using the fans on the mobo? if so are they any good or do they just scream their nuts off?

  • 1 point

The fans while on full do whine a bit but just as load as a 970 (which I now have but haven't updated) on full load. there is the option to reduce the rpm's of both fans which still do a good job at around 50% What i will say is that if overclocking your cpu the rear fan will come in handy as the vcores in that area can reach over 70c on an average 30c day in Australia, so yeah they come in handy even, just use the Asus AI suite to control them

ok thanks

btw have you seen these before... https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-083-AR

yeah they look sweet.

cant wait to get them on this build... http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/MatteusRawdata/saved/wFTNnQ just need to decide on a cpu cooler

good looking build so far

consider NZXT Kraken X61 with customisable Led's it will look pretty good with the led's on the ram if you get those, its the cooler ill be getting next pay day :)

Quick Question - what have you got in the SSD trays - they are white - not samsang SSDs.... Planning a similar build to this on the skylate platform :)

  • 1 point

believe it or not its plain old piece of paper that i cut up into a shroud to cover them :)

  • 2 points

wow - they look really good - i'll have give it shot when my case and SSDs come through

  • 1 point

White SSD

Would be perfect but cant find them anywhere!

  • 1 point

i'm planning this exact same build but I'm not sure about the case, the HOF is huge will another card fit in there?

  • 1 point

Another HOF will indeed fit even with SSD's installed. The HOF is 2.5 slots in depth, so there would still be, i would say about 1 cm gap between the bottom HOF and the SSD's. I plan on getting a second card myself in the coming months.

Also check out the build from MatteusRawdata they have also created the same build as mine, except with better looking ram from the UK

  • 1 point

I see, thanks for answering. Looking forward on how the SLI will look, I'm sure it will look perfect.

Does your ram run at 2666? I have the same motherboard and like your ram but it isn't on the qualified memory list. Nice build! +1

  • 1 point

Hi. Yeah it runs no problems at 2666. The board seems to pick up the profile fine and also runs it at the default 1.65 instead of 1.5

  • 1 point

Where did you get your white cables at? I'm building a pc that looks like your build. Thanks!

  • 2 points

I bought them from PCCASEGEAR

You should also look at something like this from OVERCLOCKERS

They are pure white but a full set including postage is almost double the price as the same set

Also bare in mind to buy clear or white combs to help the cables stay neat and straight

Got it from Mwave for $579, all up $614 including shipping and some weird bank transaction fee that i've only just realised was added lol

  • 1 point

Ok, thanks very much, weird about the bank fee

  • 1 point

Just ordered 1.7k worth of parts from Mwave, damn is that bank fee normal? For that 1.7k they charged me $30 or so. But if you do the bank deposit there is no fee at all :D. +1 even tho its old

  • 1 point

who you calling old. The way i see it is i was the first to post with the Sabertooth S :P

Yeah the bank fee is a bit of an odd one, basically charging you to use your bank card i think

  • 1 point

HAHA I meant old as in an old post I still support it (but your build is sexy tho), I have literally just got my parts with that sexy mobo check my parts list out when you got time.
