Description

Everything went pretty much perfectly. Still in the process of overclocking though, and the ASUS Z97 is giving slight trouble. First overclock worked after the system posted and attempted booting a second time. Second overclock failed so MemOK then set back to previous. This is while using the EZ setup wizard. Planning on tweaking the overclock up slightly higher to a relatively usual 4.5 from the auto 4.4, overclocking the G.Skills as high as I can, and getting things to run just right.

The ASUS UEFI is quite amazing for a first-time builder while still having all the option you will need available. I'm definitely going to play around until I get things just right, but for now the system is running without any problems. One thing to mention might be that the cable running to the 970 rubs against the window a bit unless it's pressed down pretty well. Not really an issue, obviously.

At stock settings, the CPU runs idle at around 26 C average (And today was rather hot considering the AC broke). Everything operating at their usual temps, and the CRYORIG H7 is honestly performing a little better than I actually expected. Will be adding a few 140mm case fans and upgrading to the slightly more capable CRYORIG cpu fans than the stock. But I should add that overall, this entire system has great appearance. With some minimal customization, it will look amazing <3

Solid build. That GPU cable is a little janky agaisnt the window but even with that that case looks slick. PSU is a little high priced for only 550w, even with it being gold and fully modular, but now I'm just nit picking. Still gonna +1

Honestly I didn't spend a whole lot of time on the PSU, though be it my shame to admit. But it's working as expected and everything was easy to get together. I probably could have done better but I spent most of my time looking at motherboards, coolers, and all else pretty much.

Edit: I did manage to get the cable pushed back a bit, but I might look into fixing it up later for looks.

Damn, those are pretty nice overclocks considering the H7, didn't know it had that much potential :D nice build tho, good color scheme

Oh and put up some more pics if you can :)

The H7 is working great, although I still can't get it past 4.4 due to my lack of knowledge on overclocking. I haven't stress-tested it yet or set it up proper as my actual monitor isn't in yet. More pictures to come though once I do ^

Yep the H7 outperforms the EVO 212 even being smaller at 145mm vs 159mm. Its an excellent cooler and around that price it is the best you can get.

The ASUS board was honestly a huge help in that regard as it can home in a decent overclocks and you can build up a bit from there. I haven't touched it too much as I keep messing up the memory overclock at this point if I try to bump it even higher and then it refuses to post.

i tried overclocking my GTX 670 and i only got like 2% better performance after like 10 crashes i am useless xD

Personally I have no idea how to overclock the graphics card. Thankfully the MSI card overclocks for you too xD

i like the build and i did notice that you said yor going to be getting 140mm case fans and i wasn't sure if you knew if the s340 only suports 120mm fans lol.

also i would recomend getting a fan with a higher cfm so you might run a bit cooler and maybe even oc some more. and will probs be quieter

The S340 actually can support two 140mm in the front and one at the top ^ Both areas support both sizes, but it only comes with two pretty poor 120mm fans. Totally working on fans next paycheck and possibly lighting. Paint eventually too where it can be.

that build looks pretty sweat, although if you picked up a couple corsair sp120s and put them in push pull that would look sick and give you better performance.

It doesn't seem my comment saved, but I've been looking at some fans that have a higher CFM (as advertised at least), particularly the performance model of the CRYORIG fan that came with the cooler.

mk, I might end up getting an h7 and an sp120 quiet in the front in push for my i5 4460 for accoustic (but mainly aesthetic) purposes.

+1 for parts for that price you're gonna get a really good build for a year or two before games start upping requirements, but even then you will still get playable frames.

Since I'm only planning on playing decent to high quality at 1080, I don't really mind it. But with the new GPU set coming out I didn't really want to aim much higher than the 970. It works for what I need and most everything else will do great until most games start taking advantage of multiple threads at which point I'll be moving up to the i7 version of my i5.

At least that's the plan, but I'm sure the game market might surprise me.

Yea i get it if you bought the card from evga you could've applied for the step up program and paid the difference between the cards

please just stop with the pascal cards comments

I don't follow GPU news, but what is a pascal? is it the nvidia 1080/1070? or is it just a standalone GPU that is a lot better?

  • 1 point

Its the new architecture that Nivida is going to use for GPU's so it is a whole series of cards.

  • 1 point

Ohhhhh ok!! so there will be a i.e 200ti P? (P for pascal)

  • 1 point

Pascal is the reason I didn't really go higher than a 970 (personal preference and budget aside)

Once they hit full production I'll probably be upgrading graphics but that's about it. They were announced as the 1070 and 1080. Look really great for their price, really. Recommended.

Pascal is nVidia's new GPU architecture, and yes it's the 1080/1070. And the 1080 and 1070 are substantially better than the other GPUs, the 1070 is more powerful than a single Titan X and the 1080 is more powerful than 980ti SLI.

  • 1 point

Ohhh ok, i will definetly get the 1070 since it is basically a better and cheaper Titan. But 1 thing to keep in mind is that Nvidia hasn't released the specs of the 1070 they are just claiming in the moment.

  • 1 point

if they haven't released the specs then we wont know if it worth the tag

  • 1 point

Exactly, but since they released the 1080 benchmark i suspect that the 1070 won't fall far from the tree.

  • 1 point

They never said 980ti SLI... it was 980 SLI, they decided to leave out the 980ti's performance comparison

  • 1 point

They have only released 1080 benchmarks for vr and it only outdoes vr as far as we know

There's not actually too much smudging but the phone camera doesn't really portray that well =P I'll be borrowing a decent camera for more pics once I have my monitor.
