Description

After 5 years with my trusty i7 2600k, time to upgrade. I recycle some parts of my old pc, (fans, HDDs, PSU, cables)

Build went pretty smooth, one problem I encounterded, I could not pass the case USB3 cable through the hole to connect to the header. So I purchased an internal extension header and all good. https://www.moddiy.com/products/USB-3.0-20%252dPin-Internal-Header-Adapter-Cable-(Low-Profile-Connector).html

Coming from a Fractal Define R3, the S340elite is a nice upgrade, but cable management was a nightmare with 2ssd, 2Hdd, Hue+, nzxt internal usb hub and Phanteks cable extentions. I barely fit all the cables!

i7 running @ 4.8, nice and cool. Did not try 5ghz yet. G.Skill 3400 runnig @ 3500Mhz, stock voltages and timings.

The top mounted fan is conected to the GPU, love this. Fan is always off until I start gaming. Nice and quiet system, but not as quiet as the Fractal obviously. Back fan connected to Mb and using Fanxpert4

Might change the monitor for a 1440p g-sync soon and a M.2 boot drive.

One thing I found annoying is the LED on back IO cover of the motherboard is covered by the rear fan, I can only see the X of the Maximus IX. I guess the only way is to get a low profile fan.

thats beautiful! i love the cable management! im taking mine apart tonight to clean up haha, how are the noctuna fans btw?

dogo submitter 1 Build 2 points 21 months ago

Thanks! The noctua is a nice fan, up to about 50% is quiet but after that becomes a jumbo jet. Not a fan of the looks, but Is the incluided fan from my Noctua NH-D14 from previous build. I will replace it if the heatsink get sold.

niceee i have a 19.d fan in terms of sound so i never ever hear it , would you have any tips for cable management? i uploaded my build and im just looking for any guidance as im super new to the PC gaming world and I want it to look all nice and pretty haha

Maybe a few more pictures and I think I smell a feature :-).

I barely fit all the cables!

Show us the back!

In my opinion (well, at least depending on which one you buy) an M.2 drive is too expensive for just a boot drive. It would be worth it if you put some other programs/games in it. I say that because I have a Western Digital Black HDD and my PC literally boots in less than 10 seconds; it's on in the time it takes for my monitor to turn on.

Overall, very nice build. That CPU cooler is so nice!

hope you get featured!

Thanks! What I meant for boot drive was install OS and most used programs, games, like my SSD830 now. Other option is to retire the ocz and replace it with a MX300 or 850evo. M.2 is sweet because I dont need to deal with any more cables lol

Faizan 1 point 21 months ago

Yeah, doing that is what I'd recommend!

Don't know why I was downvoted... can't give an opinion around here?

Yeah solid build. How does the NZXT Kraken play with the Aura Sync on the HERO or do they talk at all? Is that the Hue I see on your psu shroud? I like how your Noctua fan still holds its own and looks good up top! +1

dogo submitter 1 Build 1 point 21 months ago

Yes, the Hue+ is the one on the shroud. The Kraken and Hue+ does not comunicate each other with the Aura AFAIK, I use CAM software for Hue+ and AIO. Im not using rgb headers. The aura software just for the LED on GTX and motherboard. To be honest the aura software is pretty simple, beta almost :(

Beautiful build!

Hi, great build. I'm planning to build a red and black themed build myself very similar to yours and I was wondering how your trident Z red and black sticks of ram are full black as the only ones I could find had one side black and one side grey. http://gskill.com/en/product/f4-3000c15d-16gtzb Is this just the photos showing it as black? I was also wondering whether I need a internal usb hub. very similar parts but am not using nzxt hue

dogo submitter 1 Build 1 point 21 months ago

Hi, the Ram are indeed dark grey and black. AFAIK the red ones are all like this. When installed, you can barely see the difference between black and grey. Great looking memory sticks, get them! For the USB, depends of what you need to connect and MB. My MB only has 1 usb2.0. But I need 1 for the kraken, 1 for the hue+, 1 for the front panel. Hope it helps!

Hackatacka 1 point 21 months ago

you could prob run it 5.00 ghz no problem with the Kraken

Hackatacka 1 point 21 months ago

if you were gonna spend 2k+ on the pc you should have gotten the 500 gb 960 evo m.2 drive

Lynczus 1 point 20 months ago

This build is beautiful! Makes me want to make my build look like this at some point

isaaceanderson 1 point 19 months ago

How do you feel about the back case fan covering the "maximus IX" led's? I built one with the same case and motherboard and i don't really like the back fan thinking about replacing it with a skinnier on...
