Around 18 months ago I built my first rig https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/b/Lcpbt6 for gaming at 1080p to replace my ps4 I've always wanted to game on pc I just never had the confidence to do it. Since my first build I have been steadily upgrading certain components and I wanted to try out 1440p and that is where it all started...

It's still a work in progress:

Storage: I'll be increasing the capacity whether that's by SSD or HDD I'm not sure yet.

CPU Cooler: To be honest I'd like to water cool but with some of the stories I've seen it puts me off, I realize the chances of a leak are very slim to none I'd just rather not take the chance plus there is my OCD to consider haha.

RAM: I upgraded from 8GB whilst rocking my H170 board hence the 2133mhz speed, I will probably change it out at some point but it's not a top priority at the moment.

Part Reviews

Handles everything, I upgraded from an i5 6500 as in some games which are cpu intensive I was getting 100% usage on all cores and I was getting some horrible cpu stutter so I picked up a used i7 6700k up for £225! Which I could not refuse to be honest and it performs like a champ! According to AIDA64 Extreme the highest temp achived was 66°C and fluctuating from the 50'5 - 60's. I'm not sure how accurate AIDA64 is tbh. Regardless this is a great cpu

CPU Cooler

Stylish, quiet, compatibility and performance - I could not ask anymore from this cooler it performs really well, It keeps my i7 6700k at 23°C idle and around 60°C under load

This motherboard is brilliant. I found it to be really easy to work with/navigate around the BIOS. Aesthetically it looks awesome. I haven't OC'd with it yet as there's no need to (yet)

Fits my build aesthetic really well, Performs how it should. Excellent

Used for Windows 10 OS. Boots in 11-12 seconds. Brilliant

I have had this drive for 18 months and it has not let me down! It's quiet (Don't really notice it when it's working). Excellent

Video Card

Epic! It eats whatever you put in front of it at 1440p The temps are really good under load, It's quiet, Stylish. Love it!

The case is beautiful. The cable management is really easy to work with and the storage for your psu cabling in the back of the case is also really really easy to work with and plenty of room.

It is like a bit of a Meccano kit with the amount of screws and different types it comes with but it's straight forward more or less haha.

I had to knock one star off as the riser cable that came with it was faulty which was to be expected after reading some case reviews. It's not a game breaker but when you have taken the time to install it and it's faulty it's quite irritating!

Power Supply

It's a PSU. It powers my stuff with no issues.

1440p - 144hz - gsync. Amazing. It is awesome! It is a TN panel which can have washed out colors but after calibrating the monitor and downloading an icc profile the colors are excellent and you get the 1ms response time too.

From using "gaming headsets" all my gaming life I decided to try something different and these are great! No gimmicks just pure performance. The sound is excellent and I find them comfortable to wear although some users do not find this to be the case. It all depends on the person.

Dude this build looks so freaking amazing in that case ! What is that little thing called on your graphics card that the cables plug into ?

BB2013 submitter 2 Builds 2 points 22 months ago

Thanks dude. It's a evga powerlink. All our does is it shifts the position of your gpu cables. It proved useful for me because the position of the gromit on the case and the length of the gpu it was quote akward without it and didn't look right

was going to ask the same thing. you should put it on your parts list as a custom part! Love the build! +1

BB2013 submitter 2 Builds 2 points 22 months ago

Haha will do and thanks :)

we actually have a lot of the same brands/products, you should check out my build. I'm trying to upgrade my GPU this summer deciding between a 1080 FTW like you have or an 11Gb 1080ti once the VEGA line comes out and prices drop.

Your setup looks great, as well as your parts. That case is pretty good-looking.

Thanks buddy :)

I personally hate that case, but it's still a great build, good job!

I've heard great things about that Dell monitor, is it any good?

BB2013 submitter 2 Builds 1 point 22 months ago

Yeah it's great, it needed calibrating slightly and an icc profile downloading. The 144hz gsync is awesome!

i would never be able to use that case i live on a dirt road so it would get supper dusty

BB2013 submitter 2 Builds 1 point 22 months ago

I don't worry about dust to be honest. I have an electrical blower (designed for pc dusting) a quick blast with that and it's done

Someone0011 2 Builds 1 point 22 months ago

i just have a compressed air can and a air compresor in my garage. even with filters my computer gets dust every where

Lyrix 1 point 22 months ago

Nice build, I like the color scheme!

The case makes the PC look like an art installation :)

Consider Getting 32gb ram and upgrading Ssd. Everything else looks fine.

DarthxxNecrosis 1 point 22 months ago

As a Star Wars fan I am digging the storm trooper color scheme. On a functional note how does the EVGA Powerlink hold up for you? I have seen a few negative reviews in regards to the materials used to make the powerlink.

BB2013 submitter 2 Builds 1 point 22 months ago

Thanks mate :) I really like the evga powerlink, I have nothing bad to say about it. The build quality seems fine and works how it should

Niccee.. :)

Learn something new every day, I guess. I was looking for reviews of my headphones (I have a HD668B, bought it on Massdrop) and I saw your Powerlink; I didn't know anyone made anything like that. That's way better than draping cables across the GPU. About the headphones; they're pretty good for being really cheap (they sound better than my Logitech G230s) and I don't find the split pads intrusive. As for your build: I'm not a fan of the Thermaltake open-air cases but your b&w scheme does look very good in it.

Thanks, I thought it would have been an issue but I have an electric blower, I give it a once over before I start her up :)
