Description

Built to be a multi-purpose machine. Meant for really solid gaming mixed with really solid content creation. Designed to be solid and last fairly strong for the next 4-6 years at least. No problems with it what so ever. The full tower Rosewill Thor-V2 has definitely helped a lot with that. That case is huge!!! The Zalman cooler also works very well at keeping this cpu cool. This is a Linux machine, currently running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, and I LOVE IT. No complaints with it what so ever. Linux was definitely the right choice here with this build and for me.

Thanks for reading.

I highly recommend this build or any similar build to this one. You can pretty much throw a brick at it and it will just take it and turn it into ones and zeros while doing some other stuff too. This machine is a multitasking BEAST!!!

What's even crazier is that if you think this build is overkill and pretty intense and hefty, then go ahead and check out its next evolution: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/poomer/saved/PZZqqs That's right, I'm done with this build yet, that linked list is my "dream completed build" for it. Pretty much its everything I could ever foresee-ably want for it.. So basically like future upgrades for it.

Ubuntu FTW! Yep, Ubuntu has got to be my favourite linux distro. Can you tell me how does it take on games? The only games I heard was on Linux is War Thunder, TF2 and Left 4 Dead. Sorry but I'm not familiar with Linux gaming.

I'll be honest, at the moment I am still acquiring my graphics card...lol and I haven't had to chance to buy or play any games on it yet (I'm a high school student and do sports so time isn't always there haha). As soon as I find out more I will report back to you though. As far as from what i can deduce though it that it should play games very very well considering the low resources and overhead that Ubuntu requires to run and work. Thereby leaving more resources for the game to use. I completely agree with you though Ubuntu is also my favorite Linux distro too! Mainly just cause of ease of use, and also I have a mac laptop so its an easier transition between the two for me as well lol. Hopefully all this Ubuntu talk won't draw out all the Linux purist and stuff haha

Did you have to update the BIOS on your Z87 motherboard?

I tried to Q-flash it to update the bios (the Gigabytes way of updating it) but for whatever reason it wouldn't update the bios and as far as I know the CPU has not been hindered as a result and is running as stated at a base of 4.00 GHZ and a turbo of 4.4GHZ. So no lol I guess I didn't but I tried though. I do recommend this motherboard though, or probably the newer model maybe. But I have had no issues.

have you gotten the gpu yet? if so any issues getting it to fit? i have a build using the same case/gpu but the case states the max length is 12.99", newegg lists the card at 15.9" :O

this site says 12.28" though..

Yes, yes I have! I just installed it today actually! The GPU fits in the case with no problems. I'll post some pictures on here tonight for you to see for yourself. But everything listed here in this build fits perfectly in this case, with lots of room to spare for air flow. It's a good case, but I will say and recommend that if you don't need as many external bays I would suggest taking a look at the Rosewill Throne then.

have you had any USB port problems; I want to get this MB, but I have heard too many problems with the USBs

negatory, I have no usb problems with this motherboard. I personally really like this mb. It's of good make and good quality. Solid built, and pretty feature packed!

The list you created in the desc. doesn't have water cooling, if you want more power for your processor in overclocking, then water cooling will do it best. Plus, it looks better. But add more pics.

This is very true, water cooling would provide me with that option and ability. I personally am not a water cooling person and with this build its not something I want to do, so instead I would probs just just go with a way way bigger and better air cooler (which they do exist and are out there lol) to cool the oveclocked CPU. That's just the way I was going with this built and what not.
