Description

Hey all,

This was my first attempt at building a gaming rig. I'll be using it for gaming of course, but also for Web and Software development.

I started off with a budget in my head, but then of course, I started to think about the long term and started to just put in components to future proof myself.

Have a look and let me know what you guys think, (please go easy on me, it was my first time!) and let me know of any future improvements I can do, components (hope not), layout (hope so), things like that.

(In the photos, I know that the lights are bright, that was for photo purposes)

(also, the monitor in the pictures isn't the one listed on the parts list, at the time of writing this, I'm still waiting on my monitor to be delivered)

Part Reviews

Motherboard

A beautiful motherboard. Packed full of features and was a breeze to use, even for a newbie to the custom PC scene. The build quality is outstanding, exactly what you'd expect from a ROG board and my Zotac GTX1080 Amp! Extreme sits in nicely. Little bit of GPU sag, but the excellent build quality of this board doesn't have me worried. Definitely recommend

Memory

Probably one of the best value 3200MHz ram sticks you can get right now. Excellent build quality, excellent performance. Does exactly what she's meant to do.

Storage

Can't say enough good things about this. OS starts up in 25 seconds, games load in a fraction of the time and this baby takes it all in her stride. If you can spare the extra cash, get the pro over the EVO. You won't regret it. I haven't.

Storage

Picked up as affordable storage for music, movies, what have you. No problems so far. Not expecting to put much on here, I just didn't want any extra clutter on my SSD. Solid product from WD. Want storage from a good brand but don't want to break the bank? Here you go

Case

I chose this case for the unique layout and the fact that the clear panel is on the opposite side. Had zero problems with this case. Was a dream to build with and the cable management is excellent

Keyboard

Excellent keyboard. Chosen because I like Logitech's products and the reviews. Keys feel nice and the RGB lighting is beautiful. Lots of preset effects that can be displayed (my favorite is the Matrix style code effect). Loses one star due to the fact that it has no on board memory to save your settings, therefore requiring the software to be running, but that's a small issue. Solid keyboard and really nice to game on

Other

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Plugged directly into my Asus RGB header connection and avail of the Aura technology. When I plugged it in, Green was displaying as blue and vice versa, but a speedy calibration on the Aura software cleared that right up. Definitely recommend the magnetic strip. Nice and clean.

My only question is that name lol.

For advice look into an AIO just to get all use of that nice and shiny 7700K, other than that have fun with your system man!!!

DeckyShark submitter 1 Build 1 point 9 months ago

Haha, yeah the name comes from a cheap beer that my mates and I drink at our local dive bar lol. And yes, an AIO is something I'll definitely look at soon. Thanks man, appreciate the comment

Also crazy thought. https://rockitcool.myshopify.com/

I'm looking into it and maybe you will too.

Wow, nice. Let me know how that works out man. This is something I never considered but I'm intrigued and now I'll do some homework on it. Thanks for the share!

Speaking as a complete noob here, would you recommend a Kraken cooler? Would you put the radiator at the bottom?

EpikMark0123 1 Build 1 point 9 months ago

Nope the front.

Awesome, thanks

Your pc is upside down..... Are you teaching it yoga?

DeckyShark submitter 1 Build 1 point 9 months ago

haha, no Yoga. The 600c is an inverted case

That reverse sag is real.

DeckyShark submitter 1 Build 1 point 9 months ago

You mean the sag on the GPU? Yeah, it's not that bad actually, the sheer weight of the 1080, not a lot can be done about it without adding some string/bindings etc. Any advice?

mlach 4 Builds 1 point 9 months ago

I'm thinking the only option would be to route the power cables upwards to act like the string you mentioned. That way it could try to pull the gpu upwards a little. That would my first idea.

DeckyShark submitter 1 Build 1 point 9 months ago

Oh that's a good idea man, thanks!

DeckyShark submitter 1 Build 1 point 9 months ago

I fixed the issue by supporting the card with a slim black shoestring. The card sits level now (see the last image) and the string isn't off putting

cool cool cool, well done!

Caminon 1 Build 1 point 9 months ago

I've said it once before, and I'll say it again.

Zotac cards should really consider going on a diet.

DeckyShark submitter 1 Build 1 point 9 months ago

Yep, she's a brute. Powerful though...

SirHalpin 1 Build 1 point 7 months ago

it's my dream gir- I mean, card. She's just "big boned".

Nice setup.. How is the CPU cooling experience with MasterAir Pro 4, without overclock?

I know right? I thought it was pretty funky. The space available and cable management is outstanding. I love it
