Description

Managed to get the parts in and a good friend of mine helped put it together. My first ever true build. I decided to get something a little on the higher end since it's been a long long time since I've had a desktop and render times are getting more and more annoying. Currently I plan to use it for 3D applications; such as Maya, Blender, and 3DS Max, as well as various other digital production tools/game engines. It should also be able to keep up with current games which is always a plus.

Absolutely no issues with construction and Windows 8 works like a charm. From restart to desktop in about 8 seconds, and Maya starts up in about 3. It runs Maya at a mind blowing 1000FPS although I haven't been able to test a complex scene yet. I can also run Viewport 2.0 with real-time motion blur, ambient occlusion, and anti aliasing turned up to max at anywhere between 40-100 FPS.

A beautiful build. I could not have wished for more....well, I do plan to get a third monitor and a soundcard come this December. :)

If he doesn't wanna get a big OC, there's no reason to get any watercooler, If he want dem big oc's get a custom loop and if you want decent get a good Aircooler since It's less expensive and closed loop watercoolers are either expensive, loud or not preforming much better than good aircoolers.

If you get like a h100i, you should invenst in some news fans like Noctua fans or some other good, Silent fans.

And if he's not really oc'ing much yet and just want a silent rig, the 212 is completly fine for that.

Lmao. I thought that title said : White Trash All jokes aside; -- Your CPU is kick ***. SSD kicks even more ***. Mobo is waterproof-- KICK *** WATER FIGHT WITH MOBOS. Dual 660s kick lots of ***. I would of had gone single gtx 780 and then upgrade with this kind of budget, but dual 660s are powerful as hell tho. Case is magnificent. Monitor kicks ***. Mouse looks fun. Headphones must be good ones. (I dont know much about HP, I know 7.1 is kewl tho.)

If you ever plan on an upgrade; go for liquid cooling such as an H60, h100i, Kraken x60 etc.

Looks beautiful. Congrats on your new baby.

HP headphones? what are you talking about? I also wouldn't reccomend closed loop coolers either. Also, he has dual 670's not 660's

But cool that the motherboard is waterproof. Didn't know that.

HP = HeadPhones... You wouldnt closed loop coolers what ?

Ah ok. I meant i wouldn't recommend closed loop coolers like the h60. They don't perform that well and have quality issues and are quite loud.

Wish you would've gotten a single 780 but other than that no complaints

Very nice build congrats on the first one!

doesn't sli 670's perform better then a single 780?

but IIRC programs that utilize GPU accelleration don't make use of the extra GPU/s from crossfire/sli so then a 780 would've been a better choice.

the only thing about this build i'm iffy on is the cooler, would've preferred to see a closed loop water cooler in there.

With a 780 you can upgrade to 2 in the future. With 2 670's you are stuck with them unless you get rid of them completely.

that was my thinking when i chose a 780, but if you're not planning on adding a secound GPU in the future and want more performance now then going SLI is on lower cards is fine. he could always add another 670 in the future but after the second GPU you start to see diminishing returns.

Correct.

Only thing I would've done different is if you're SLI'ing cards anyway, I would've went with 760 since they're cheaper than 670 and preform as good as 670.

they do not perform as good. better value, yes. this is a common misconception on this site. the 760 is not as good as a 670. much better bang for your buck though.

It's about 5% difference, and the 760 scale just a bit better in SLI and the 5% is not worth 150 usd.

I would personally have gone with a single 780 or two 760s instead, but other than that, this build is awesome.
